The gate to the next dimension
It is the dream of all TV fans: pictures in 3D. This week in Las Vegas beginning Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to the manufacturers to introduce new technologies to allow viewers spatial games and television.

The development comes here from two areas: Apart from the TV manufacturers strive above all the PC companies a realistic, three-dimensional game play. The graphics card manufacturer Nvidia is happening out here, for the CES is the 3D glasses, "announced GeForce 3D Vision". The point: Nvidia advertises that the glasses can bring more than 350 already-published games to three-dimensional life.
But with the PC gamers will not remain so: Nvidia also has a video device in the luggage, the three-dimensional films on monitors or flat-screen TVs showing. And the TV manufacturers are experimenting for years with 3D devices: Last year, Samsung and Mitsubishi already revealed at CES corresponding television, after the show was of them, however, nothing more to see.
Also this year is not expected to occur first sales success. However, the major electronics companies have slowly come up with something new: the glorious days of flat screen TVs tend to a close, the first time in 2009 could be sold fewer units than last year - at least that was the forecast of the market research firm DisplaySearch.
Until now, high-definition television HDTV selling engine in which the television picture is about five times sharper than normal. But now - unlike in Germany - HDTV in many countries normality. Especially in the important U.S. market, it’s time for a new innovation. Three-dimensional television could be the next big thing.
It is thought that the teething problems will probably be even greater than for high-definition television. So far there are few films that were shot in 3D, even a uniform standard of the Hollywood studios is not yet in sight. And before the new technology can come into the household, the new technology must be tested first in the cinema halls. Here in the U.S. just invested heavily.
Until the three-dimensional television everyday, so should still take some years. At CES, however, can have a look at the future: The U.S. pay-TV broadcaster Fox Sports is transmitted an American football game in three dimensions. However, this is a one-off show, as a spokesman for the station told the Financial Times Germany said. The production technology that allows the 3D image is created is the transmitter that is much too expensive.
