Frankie interview

expect a shakin weird fonky crazy music for kicking ass!!

> 1. Personally I am looking on you and your label releases as a kind of
> click approach to old school jackin Chicago in the beginnings...If
> they had today technology those days, I am wondering that it would
> sound similar. Are you agree with my perception and could you add
> something if yes, or explain it from your perspective?

*remember this famous Chicago label in mid 90's Dancemania with hot
tracks from DJ funk...love this kind of catchy and crazy stuff..actually
I started djing with techno and boompty house during this time...in a
sense you're right they produced minimal tracks with weird funky voice
which influenced me for sure*

>
> 2. Your sound is very specific and recognizable. Its difficult to
> keep it fresh for a long time (we saw lot of examples for that), and
> its could cause the issue when your generate some fan base (or record
> buyers) and you want to move forward. Are we share this opinion ? Or
> your fan base will progress along side you?

*the label is really young with only 4 releases at that moment...the
FRANKIE REC 05 should be in local dealers in a few days!...so difficult
to say how it will be in long time...I prepare each release trying to
bring something different for each one...I definitely think music will
evolve with me...I don't plan releases according to customers...just
hope they will accept the evolution*

> 3. In the electro clash period of time, everybody blamed the media
> that they just need new thing to produce the content. Looking how
> Philip Sherburne (Wire/critical beats reviews) was commenting Frankie
> records prove completely different. /"to quote it - the new John
> Tejada track on Frankie. (Don't know anything about the label, but
> this cut is one of the year's best.) " /
> Could you touch please in a few words Electroclash positives and
> negatives and give us your opinion about importance of media to you ?
> (you also get 5 point in de bug for that record)

*Electroclash was a good moment for the fans...I'm not very fan with
electro and new wave of 80s'...prefer rock bands as pixies, pj Harvey,
sonic youth...love this weird rock approach...so the electro revival was
a big buzz on this style until people were fed up
medias are good when they keep their independence of objectivity and
criticism...but important medias as radio, magazine are also companies
and are interested in business...so they are sometimes interested by the
buzz of the moment *

> 4. Share the thoughts on MP3 downloads, P2P, and other things on which debate is going.... is it destroying or helping artists?

* it's a reality...not a problem if people keep it as free and for a private use*

> 5. Favourite piece of Software and Hardware

*at that moment I use synth Roland jx305, a soft sequencer Magix, also
Wavelab and other softs for drums*

> 6. Please give as your opinion what is going with minimal funk in
> Paris at the moment (artists, labels, club nights) and do you see
> somehow come back and integration of glamour of Drag Queens in all
> that story? Do you remember Twiggy from Queen?. Our favourite one
*the minimal house scene in Paris is very active with labels such as karat (katapult shop), telegraph, circus company... and I join them sometimes to organize cool parties although it's not favourite place for this kind of music...there is also one per month the now famous minimal dancin parties at the nouveau casino...if you come to Paris don't miss it!*

> 7. Frankie records is a just a way to introduce yourself as a artist
> and producers to global audience, or it was your long working target
> successfully achieved after the years of work, on which you could
> later present your wide musical tastes? And tell us little bit more
> about the plans for label?

*well actually when I decided to start the label I have no distributor,
no special contact in the house scene....I began to press only white
promos in a very very limited copies to do the promotion of the label
among the well known djs producers...so it was actually more simply to
call it as my own dj name and more practical to be recognized among all
the labels so next plans of the label :
ep FRANKIE REC 05 with 4 original tracks by me and release in a few days,
ep FRANKIE REC 06 is Jeff
Samuel ep release date in the beginning of january
ep FRANKIE EC 07 is Swat
Squad ep plus a remix from me
ep FRANKIE REC 08 False
Start remixes by Matthias Schaffhauser, Jason Hodges and Mehdispoz
all infos with mp3 downloads on the site http://www.frankie-rec.com

> 8. What we could expect from your set in Tockica? Anything to add?
*i was told there are crazy nights in Zagreb with very cool people....expect a shakin weird fonky crazy music for kicking ass!! *
