Bartlett TX downtown scene

Bartlett TX downtown scene

Bartlett's historic downtown is good enough to be in the movies, and has been in several of them, in fact. None of that "hokey" touristy stuff with the crafts shops and antique booths stuffed with garage sale items; this is the real thing and thankfully will probably remain so as the downtown IS a designated National Register of Historic Places-local historic district. I would love to see Bartlett preserved but not "cutesy-fied" with old plows, wagon wheels, branding irons, and other rusty pieces of "tourist" oriented Texana strewn all over town as seen in other places. Restore Bartlett's period homes; put businesses in the shops with unique to Bartlett items (art works for example) bring in a couple of nice but medium priced Mom & Pop restaurants. Keep signage to a minimum so the movie film crews will keep on coming and enjoy living in the past that is still Bartlett. It is a genuine 3-D outdoor musuem of small town Texas from a century ago-I sincerely hope they keep it that way.

screening of Charlie Bartlett

screening of Charlie Bartlett

this was the world premiere of the movie Charlie Bartlett at Tribeca Filmfest/PACE Schimmel Center. On stage are most of the main cast members. Unfortunately, Robert Downey Jr. couldn't make it :-(

I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. Even if the theater was totally sold out and I only got a seat pretty much in front and on the side. They even put in some additional chairs. That's the Tribeca Filmfest for you...

The movie reminded me a lot of 'Ferris Bueller's Day off' (if anybody still remembers this 80s gem?) and a early Christian Slater movie called 'Pump up the Volume'.
