Easy Peasy Earrings

Easy Peasy Earrings

Here's a pair I made for my Easy Peasy Earrings video! Shel made this photo for me while I was away yesterday, I'd like to get one with them hanging from something so you can see how they fall. But this way you can see the components used really well. The fancy blanks have a little patterning and were raw brass that I patina'd under a torch. That's a fast and easy way to get patina on brass, did you know? Be sure to seal it with Renwax after you torch it (and when it's cool). I then added green patina five leaf stampings from B'sue Boutiques, and some little ornamental washers I had in my workshop (we usually always have some at B'sue's) and a bit of copper chain dangling down the back. I like to use the large 10mm jumps as they are just the right weight and yet you can thread little beads onto them for movement going the other way. Earrings are all about MOVEMENT.

MY OLD MARTIN GUITAR & MOM'S QUILT

MY OLD MARTIN GUITAR & MOM'S QUILT

This is a repost, because I wanted to add that this quilt was begun for me when I was a little girl by my great grandmother who passed away before she finished it. My mom finished it for me in the 1980's.
My mom is 93 this month...:)

MY OLD MARTIN....A 1947 ..0-17 MODEL

THE STORY OF MY OLD ''MARTIN''....

When I barely became a teenager in a highly musical family, we were always singing...around the piano, in the car, in church, performing on stages ....on the farm...everywhere....mostly my dad and I...Mom played the piano and sang a good alto though...my brothers didn't sing with the family...unless forced...:)..which usually didn't happen.
I loved guitar music and wanted one...so I signed up with a company to sell ''seeds''...flower and vegetable...in packets to anyone I could find to buy them, because one of the prizes, if I sold enough was a guitar.
I finally sold enough and practically held my breath waiting for the guitar...which finally arrived...and it was painted a very ugly GREEN...sort of a yellow/green/grey combo....Actually quite a shock...and it was made of some sort of pressed wood/cardboard combo! The plastic strings would not hold a tune for more than 3-4 minutes....and it was heartbreaking!
However...I did learn to play a few chords on it....but not too great..needless to say.

One day, my dad came home from the weekly livestock auction he attended...(buying and/or selling)...with a guitar!
He said, " Anyone who can play a tune on that green piece of junk, deserves a real one!"...and there was my beautiful Martin...a used one...but a real one...:) Dad said a ''down and out cowboy singer'' was at the auction and needed money, and wanted to sell it...so dad helped him out(as he often did for many people).
I still have this guitar....which was well used in the early 50's when I got it....the frets are worn down, and the ''Ivory'' on the tuning keys has deteriorated....but it still has the marvelous Martin tone...I have loved it for over 50 years.

Regarding my dad....he passed away at the age of 56 ....lung cancer...he never smoked in his life....but he did spray a lot of ditches to kill weeds for irrigation purposes on the farm with 24 D and 245 T and Malathion and DDT were also used on the farm.....before they banned it.....and breathed a lot of dust from grinding his own grain etc for all the livestock....we had a lot of them.

LEONARD BERNSTEIN SONATA FOR CLARINET AND PIANO - FOR C

Leonard bernstein sonata for clarinet and piano - Beginner acoustic guitar lesson.

Leonard Bernstein Sonata For Clarinet And Piano

leonard bernstein sonata for clarinet and piano

    leonard bernstein
  • Bernstein: United States conductor and composer (1918-1990)

    clarinet
  • An organ stop with a tone resembling that of a clarinet

  • a single-reed instrument with a straight tube

  • The clarinet is a musical instrument that is a part of the woodwind family. The name derives from adding the suffix -et (meaning little) to the Italian word clarino (meaning a type of trumpet), as the first clarinets had a strident tone similar to that of a trumpet.

  • A woodwind instrument with a single-reed mouthpiece, a cylindrical tube of dark wood with a flared end, and holes stopped by keys. The most common forms are tuned in B flat, A, and E flat

  • (clarinetist) a musician who plays the clarinet

    sonata
  • A classical composition for an instrumental soloist, often with a piano accompaniment. It is typically in several movements with one (esp. the first) or more in sonata form

  • a musical composition of 3 or 4 movements of contrasting forms

  • Zaleplon (marketed under the brand names Sonata and Starnoc) is a sedative/hypnotic, mainly used for insomnia. It is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic from the pyrazolopyrimidine class.

  • Sonata (from Latin and Italian sonare, "to sound", Italian: pl., Sonate), in music, literally means a piece played as opposed to a cantata (Latin and Italian cantare, "to sing"), a piece sung.

    piano
  • used as a direction in music; to be played relatively softly

  • A large keyboard musical instrument with a wooden case enclosing a soundboard and metal strings, which are struck by hammers when the keys are depressed. The strings' vibration is stopped by dampers when the keys are released, and it can be regulated for length and volume by two or three pedals

  • a keyboard instrument that is played by depressing keys that cause hammers to strike tuned strings and produce sounds

  • used chiefly as a direction or description in music; "the piano passages in the composition"

In another time, I had the pleasure of performing in my personal favorite of Bernstein's musical creations - Candide. I attended a concert version of the work by the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1971 - later enjoyed a revitalized and exciting version of the work performed on Broadway (sitting on a milking stool in the orchestra) - and saw the work reborn again with a young cast of students at ASU (they did it justice). I fell in love with the work early on and later had the challenge and joy of performing the Voltaire roles (including Pangloss) in 1984. I have spent many, many hours with this "best of all possible" musicians and composers (at least through the spirit of the work).

HOW TO PLAY VIOLIN VIBRATO - HOW TO PLAY

How to play violin vibrato - Beginner electric guitar.

How To Play Violin Vibrato

how to play violin vibrato

    violin vibrato
  • A subtle vibrato produced by rapidly shaking the hand in the same plane as the string. The string itself is not moved. This is how a violin player sweetens the tone - hence the name.

    to play
  • To (play) is a poetry collection by Czeslaw Milosz. It was first published in 2000.

The edge of evening...

The edge of evening...

"A violin’s vibrato wounds the heart of woe,
A tender heart detests the black of nullity,
The sky, a lofty altar, lovely in the gloom;
The sun is drowning in the evening’s blood-red glow.

A tender heart detests the black of nullity,
And lovingly preserves each trace of long ago!
The sun is drowning in the evening’s blood-red glow …
Your memory shines through me like an ostensory!"

~ Charles Baudelaire, 1821-1867 ~
From "Evening Harmony"

With thanks to Colombes for this version in French:

Harmonie du soir

Voici venir les temps ou vibrant sur sa tige
Chaque fleur s'evapore ainsi qu'un encensoir ;
Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l'air du soir ;
Valse melancolique et langoureux vertige !

Chaque fleur s'evapore ainsi qu'un encensoir ;
Le violon fremit comme un coeur qu'on afflige ;
Valse melancolique et langoureux vertige !
Le ciel est triste et beau comme un grand reposoir.

Le violon fremit comme un coeur qu'on afflige,
Un coeur tendre, qui hait le neant vaste et noir !
Le ciel est triste et beau comme un grand reposoir ;

Not easy to capture with my little camera but I love it so much despite the flaws that it is in here.

2/7/07: The part you throw away.

2/7/07: The part you throw away.

Body tension made me quit the violin: I could never relax enough to really ease into it. I could never relax enough to do vibrato. Last night my shoulder tensed up in such fierce pain I feared I had injured myself. This morning it is better, mostly: I think it was just stress.

Ovation

Ovation

Today, I bought a new guitar. It's Ovation. This would be my main acoustic guitar although I own two. I'll keep the old one because I can't stop loving it although Ovation has better build and sound.

Again, IKEA lights are used as the source of light. One light source from the left corner. On the top, another light source by covering a piece of yellow cotton to diffuse the light.

Taken with nifty fifty 1.8.

Lens + lighting are still cheaper than this guitar.

1223473669 063 17 liss the ecstasy of st paul

17 Liss The Ecstasy of St Paul
-
Oil on canvas, 80 x 58 cm
Staatliche Museen, Berlin

In his second Epistle to the Corinthians, St Paul describes the revelations that were made to him. Liss portrays one of the apostle's visions, `how that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter'. Above the seated apostle, who is surrounded by books, an angel draws aside a curtain; terrified, Paul shrinks back from the expanse of heaven revealed to him. Angels playing musical instruments gambol in the clouds, and in the distance the Trinity appears. The colours range from the deep violet of Paul's cloak through the green of the curtain to the most delicate yellow, blue and pink of the clouds. This painting with its extraordinary wealth of brilliant colour is one of the artist's finest works and seems to anticipate the Venetian painting of the eighteenth century.

With the exception of Adam Elsheimer, Johann Liss was the most outstanding German painter of the seventeenth century. He was born in Schleswig-Holstein c. 1597, spent several years studying in the Netherlands, where he came into contact with the Haarlem painters, principally Goltzius and Buytewech, and with the Flemish followers of Caravaggio in Antwerp (Janssens, Jordaens). Liss then made his way to Italy via Paris. To begin with, he worked in Rome, where he was a member of the Netherlandish artists' colony, and exactly when he settled in Venice is not known. Until his early death, supposedly a victim of the plague which broke out in 1629, he continued to work in Venice and it was in these last years that he produced his best-known works, among them The Ecstasy of St Paul. Together with Domenico Feti, Liss played an important part in reviving the use of rich colours, a Venetian tradition which had ended with Tintoretto.

In the seventeenth century this painting was in the famous collection of the Amsterdam merchant Gerrit Reynst (died 1658), which consisted mainly of works by Venetian masters and included a companion-piece, The Vision of St Peter, which was subsequently lost. Both pictures were engraved by Jeremias Falck and attributed to Johann Liss, but it seems certain that the St Peter picture was not the work of Liss but of Domenico Feti, who was a close friend of the German painter. It may be that after Feti's death (1623), his patron decided to commission Johann Liss to paint the companion-picture to the St Peter. The Ecstasy of St Paul came up for sale in Amsterdam in 1722 with the Van de Amory Collection and found its way through a Florentine art-dealer into the Berlin collection of A. von Frey, from which it passed in 1919 to the Picture Gallery.
