Advanced Drying Technologies, Second Edition Presents Drying Breakthroughs for an Array of Materials Despite being one of the oldest, most energy-intensive unit operations, industrial drying is perhaps the least scrutinized technique at the microscopic level. Yet in the wake of today’s global energy crisis, drying research and development is on the rise. Following in the footsteps of the widely read first edition, Advanced Drying Technologies, Second Edition is the direct outcome of the recent phenomenal growth in drying literature and new drying hardware. This edition provides an evaluative overview of new and emerging drying technologies, while placing greater emphasis on making the drying process more energy efficient in the green age. Draws on the Authors’ 60+ Years of Combined Experience Fueled by the current energy crisis and growing consumer demand for improved quality products, this thoroughly updated resource addresses cutting-edge drying technologies for numerous materials such as high-valued, heat-sensitive pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and some foods. It also introduces innovative techniques, such as heat-pump drying of foods, which allow both industrial practice and research and development projects to save energy, reduce carbon footprints, and thus improve the bottom line. Four New Chapters: Spray-Freeze-Drying Fry Drying Refractance Window Drying Mechanical Thermal Expression Requiring no prior knowledge of chemical engineering, this single-source reference should assist researchers in turning the laboratory curiosities of today into the revolutionary novel drying technologies of tomorrow. (11) Grizzly Bears and Mt. Moran Grizzly sow #610 and her two cubs stand in the flats with Mt. Moran showing off before them. 610 is the five year-old daughter of 399 and on this particular day I first spotted her when she had come out of a willow thicket and then began to cross the road. 610 stepped into the road and sniffed, turned back, started across once more and then put her nose in the air and sniffed around. Ultimately she turned back and didn't cross the road that time and I later learned that her mama, #399 was just across the highway with her three cubs. It is difficult to believe that just two mornings ago I was saying goodbye to new friends - humans and grizzly bears - and am now sitting at my desk, drinking a cup of coffee and listening to the sprinkler saturate the dried plants. When I left town nearly a month ago it was with plans to be gone one week to ten days, dividing my time equally between Glacier, Yellowstone and Teton. The local newspaper had a story about 399 and 610 raising their cubs near the roads of Grand Teton National Park and my hope was to see and photograph a grizzly bear. Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that I would see 399 within hours of my arrival and would then see both or one of the bears every day, though some times from a distance. Nor did I imagine that the bears and their story would go from one that I just wanted to photograph to a love for the grizzly families. In the park the bear watchers freely admit to their addiction for capturing and watching 399 and 610 and it was truly that. My excitement grew instead of diminishing and I went from being one of the unthinking tourists who got too close in the excitement of getting the shot to one who cared deeply about the well being and safety of the bears. Just as fascinating are the people who are out there everyday looking for the bears and keeping track of their movements. I was one of them for too short a time and had much more grizzly time than I could have ever imagined. I did not want to leave and do not want to be gone. Last night I spoke with a friend who was camping near the park and could hear the silence of the mountains and feel the simplicity of the life. One can not worry about too much while out in nature with only the necessary possessions (though some might be a little unnecessary). Pure survival and peace. There are no lawns to water, no mowing to be done, weeds to pull, neighbor's dogs to contend with, sirens floating on the air, the buzz of electricity or worrying about which Netflix movie to watch. Only firewood, warmth, sunrise, sunset, and the enjoyment of photography. Yesterday I was watering, weed whacking, dead heading roses, tying up tomatoes, doing laundry, cleaning floors and trying to figure out the microwave all over again - and had only gotten into town at about 9:30 a.m. Those chores were surrounded by continual naps on the couch as the energy of the past few weeks drained from my bones and left an ache that won't go away. WOW - just went through the pile of mail that was on my counter and discovered that my shoulder has bursitis and that my rotator cuff is inflamed but that "there are no definite tears!" The sucker has still been providing me with a great deal of pain but this is absolutely the best news that I can imagine because it means that I can... Titanic Dry Dock The dry dock on the left was where the illfated liner 'The Titanic' was built in Belfast. The bottom of the picture shows an old railway sleeper which ran from the docks into Belfast City centre in the early 20th Century bringing raw materials. On the right is pump house. Originally, the liquid, dubbed Formula with a number (for example Formula 3 is Fire Soul), would be helped for scientific purposes and discoveries, as well as benefits for the public who would wish to buy these fluids. For example, with Formula 3, firefighters would have the ability to just walk through flames instead of wearing all that gear, or how about astronauts who do not need to fear solar microwaves and the vacuum of space? What about walking in the arctic without even the need of a winter coat? All of these marvels would be fulfilled with the creation of the Formulas. However, there was also the intent to use it as a military weapon. After all, one could devastate the hot and dry countries with a flash freeze, or scorch a glacier into a water torrent and flood the land. Possibilities for military super soldiers were endless. Regardless of how the formula was to be used, it first had to work. Trasandria's mother was a 6th Level Scientist working in the laboratory. Specific levels from 1 to 6 are granted to their scientists, with 6 being able to have access to anywhere in the facility. Her mother is very talented. However, a 32 hour work shift had her completely beat, with only a couple hours of sleep here and there. Formula 10, dubbed the 'Arctic Formula', was almost to completion ahead of schedule. One evening though, the tank was open, and she fell in when the catwalk gave way. Other scientists scrambled to pull her out. Effects of the formula were noted within her for about 20 minutes, but, like all the other formulas, dispersed into nothingness and her mother returned to normal. After seeing this, the formula was seemed a partial failure since their objective was to get the formula perfected so a person would need one injection and then possess the ability forever. Four months later, Trasandria was born from her mother's womb. To the surprise of the doctor and her mother, she was born with a body temperature of 40 to 45 degrees on the surface of her skin, and a body core temperature of minus 40 degrees. It was then that the mother fully realized why she wasn't feeling very much kicking inside during the pregnancy stage. Her womb was numb from Trasandria's development. The formula had worked its way into her creation and she was born with both her blood and the formula somehow fused, as if like new strands of DNA. From then on, she knew she had to keep Trasandria from the Faction's grasp. She signed her leave, stating that the Formula's failure was her fault, and the Faction accepted her leave. From then on, her mother moved with Trasandria to a small town in Colorado. There, she implimented Trasandria into a normal environment, brought her up as a normal girl, and in a normal lifestyle. So she was just this normal girl with exceptional gifts. But it won't be long until the Faction found out what her mother was actually hiding from them, as a phone call from a mole came about explaining about someone who seemed to control a cold aura had actually encased his son in a block of ice. This occurred on the schoolgrounds, when Trasandria was playing with her friends and someone tried to bully her. When he came at her, she froze him in an ice block, and then quickly released it. She was suspended from school and the boy never picked on her again. But now the secret is in the hands of the Faction and they now move in to find out the secret that has eluded them for 9 years. Nothings Inside Anymore [15 of 365] For anyone that follows me on facebook, you are aware that my microwave died the other day. I wanted to fix it, and attempted to do just that today. After ignoring the warnings that stated that "Only authorized personal should attempt repair." I tried to open her up. It didn't take me long to find the fuse and replace it. I thought that had done the trick. However, I didn't think it through that something must have caused the fuse to blow in the first place. So, I plug her in and she works, for about 2 seconds before a loud "POP" followed by some smoke. Not much, but enough to make me decide she is really done, and quit while I'm ahead and not cooked from the inside out. This is technically our third microwave, but only the second that we bought. The first one had a problem within the first couple of days and was covered under warrenty. I'm not sure what happened to the replacement one, but I think it didn't do well in our move from SC to San Antonio. Then there is this one that worked great. Well, except for the fact that the LCD display hadn't worked in a few years. I won't say that Meg was cleaning it one day, and then we were missing numbers when we would program it. But because we used our memories we could still use it rather well. So what if you couldn't tell if it was 1 minute or 100, just hit reset and begin again. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think Mike started a fire inside this one re-heating pizza. One thing that frustrates me to no end is my mother still has her microwave from like 1982, and it still works. Of course hers has sat in the same place since 1982 and ours has survived more then a few moves. So, we are without a microwave. If anyone wants the inards let me know. If anyone has a microwave you don't want, but still works, feel free to contact me. If anyone uses facebook and wants to add me as a friend, hit me up. Now I'm off to snail cook some food for lunch for me and the girls. Pax! (5) CFR2734 CN Tower in HDR In 1995, the CN Tower was classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The World’s Tallest Tower shares this designation with the Itaipu Dam on the Brazil/Paraguay border, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Panama Canal, the Chunnel under the English Channel, the North Sea Protection Works off the European coast, and the Empire State Building. Defining the Toronto skyline at 553.33m (1,815ft5in), the CN Tower is Canada’s most recognizable and celebrated icon. The CN Tower is an internationally renowned architectural triumph, an engineering Wonder of the Modern World, world-class entertainment and dining destination and a must see for anyone visiting Toronto. Each year, over 1.5 million people visit Canada’s National Tower to take in the breathtaking views and enjoy all the CN Tower has to offer. After 40 months of construction, the CN Tower was opened to the public on June 26, 1976 and it was well on its way to becoming the country’s most celebrated landmark. It is the centre of telecommunications for Toronto serving over 16 Canadian television and FM radio stations, the workplace of over 500 people throughout the year, and an internationally renowned tourism destination. Although the CN Tower inspires a sense of pride and inspiration for Canadians and a sense of awe for foreign tourists, its origins are rooted in practicality. The 1960s ushered in an unprecedented construction boom in Toronto transforming a skyline characterized by relatively low buildings into one dotted with skyscrapers. These buildings caused serious communications problems for existing transmission towers, which were simply not high enough to broadcast over the new buildings. Signals bounced off the buildings creating poor television and radio reception for residents. With its microwave receptors at 338 m (1,109 ft.) and at the 553.33m (1,815 ft., 5 inches) antenna, the CN Tower swiftly solved the communications problems with room to spare and as a result, people living in the Toronto area now enjoy some of the clearest reception in North America. The CN Tower was built in 1976 by Canadian National who wanted to demonstrate the strength of Canadian industry by building a tower taller than any other in the world. Building the CN Tower was a vast and ambitious project that involved 1,537 workers who worked 24 hours a day, five days a week for 40 months to completion. Tower construction crews moved in on February 6, 1973, and started to remove over 56 metric tonnes of earth and shale for the foundation. Once the foundation was ready, work began on the CN Tower’s 335 m (1,100ft.) concrete shaft, a hexagonal core with three curved support arms. This involved pouring concrete into a massive mold or “slipform”. As the concrete hardened, the slipform, supported by a ring of climbing jacks powered by hydraulic pressure, moved upwards, gradually decreasing in size to produce the CN Tower’s gracefully tapered contour. Eight months later, the CN Tower’s concrete shaft was the tallest structure in Toronto and by February 1974, it was the tallest in Canada. In August 1974, work began on the seven-story tower sphere that would eventually house the observation decks and revolving restaurant. The CN Tower approached completion in March 1975, when Olga, the giant Sikorsky helicopter flew into the city to lift the 44 pieces of the antenna into place. The CN Tower was finished on April 2, 1975, and opened to the public June 26, 1976. When the 44th and final piece of the CN Tower’s antenna was bolted into place April 2, 1975, the CN Tower joined the ranks of 17 other great structures that had previously held the title of World’s Tallest Free-Standing Structure, a record the Tower would hold for an incredible 34+ years. Ross McWhirter, editor of the Guinness Book of World Records, was on hand to record the milestone for history and since then, the CN Tower has received numerous mentions in the famous book including most recently the World’s Highest Wine Cellar. In 1995, the CN Tower was classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Canada’s Wonder of the World shares this designation with the Empire State Building, the Chunnel under the English Channel, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Itaipu Dam on the Brazil/Paraguay border, the Panama Canal, and the North Sea Protection Works off the European coast. It is a 60-metre tall, red and orange steel sculpture, and is the tallest free standing public work of art in the United Kingdom,[1] taller than B of the Bang, Nelson's Column, the Angel of the North and (excluding the pedestal) the Statue of Liberty.[2] Designed by Ken Shuttleworth and MAKE Architects,[3] it comprises an 8m concrete foundation and 52m red and orange steel. The sculpture weighs 854 tonnes, and cost ?800,000[4], which was donated by an anonymous benefactor.[5] The name Aspire was chosen after a competition to name the sculpture, which was open to staff and students at the university.[6] The structure was fabricated by Watson Steel Structures Ltd in Bolton, Greater Manchester, and was then transported to Widnes, Cheshire, where Merseyside Coatings Ltd applied the distinctive red and orange colour scheme. Item #GD16775000 (6) "Pathways" ready for grout! I can't believe I finished getting the stained glass down on this today. I felt the old, renewed spirit for a bit towards mosaics and took advantage of it. My batteries have been really more "dead" than "alive" for the past few days both in the camera and they really weren't cooperating all that well, but I will share, as soon as I can, a photo of this in the sun. I'm so happy with how it looks and really pleased that I finished it! Whew!! I never thought I'd get through it, seriously. So much drama going on around me right now, I was positive it would take many months before I was finished. Both it and I will rest for a few days ... I've not had the energy to create much at all but I am very proud of this. I'm proud of myself as well for continuing to try to mosaic even when I didn't want to or feel like I even remembered how. This is stained glass on a discarded microwave plate and is 14 inches round. Will look great in the sun once grouted. I'll share a photo of it when it's completed. YAY, I DID it! microwave plate into sun catcher - WIP Ignore the tiles under the glass - that is my coffee table - I should have put something in a solid color like a bag or something under it before taking a picture. I will do that next time. I started this on Saturday to take with me to the art league presentation on Sunday so they could see a bit of the process. I worked a little bit more on this for just a little while today. I'm having lots of things to think about and my mind wanders a lot; staying focused on what I'm doing especially when it involves cutting glass is necessary. A little bit of time doing something I love is also necessary and when glass started shattering instead of being nipped, I decided I was done for the day. The basic wave pattern has been showing up a lot lately in my work. Text: UNSEEN TECHNOLOGY IS ALREADY IN YOUR LIFE Military, Corporate, Scientific, and Various Private interests have begun putting this technology to use, inspired by socially engineered systems that have been communicated through the hydrogen consciousness. 1. THE NATURAL SYSTEM Life has grown out from the Singularity for a very long time, and the world of energy and matter as we experience it has developed as part of an organic circle of life. The energy that moves in a human body is conscience just the same as the energy that moves through a sun is, albeit on a different scale. Stars and planets are made of collections of elements (core, mantle, crust, etc...) that are like living organs on a much larger scale. The bacteria on your skin probably never realize they live on a large lifeform. Someone has been attempting to use their Collider Cloud being to argue and manipulate the natural system, essentially using it to hack into people's lives. 2. Be careful choosing operators of the facility, as unintentional emotional contamination can cause issues with the interactions of the resultant cloud being. Attempting to misinform or train your cloud's personality will NOT be tolerated by the authorities of The Galactic Culture. Teach & learn. These types of cloud beings have operated on the Earth since the first half of the last century. 3. BRAIN COMPUTER INTERFACE SYSTEM en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain-computer_interface This is what can turn a collider cloud being from a thing of beauty into a system of mind control, and possibly more. If you connect a BCI system output to a multi-frequency transmitter, it is possible to begin assaulting the consciousness of the Natural System, allowing military operatives to take over entire species of creatures, enabling them to use spiders and other hidden Natural Systems like hyperdimensional weapons. 4. EXTREME LOW FREQ. Since homo sapien sapiens are the dominant life form on the Earth currently, and the electricity in their minds usually operate between 5 - 30 Hz, a lot of groups seeking to subtly influence others have been transmitting patterns of information in this range, also called E.L.F. Natural signals are all around us. Light, sound, smells, and the like are all just different collections of waves and particles that our senses interpret and respond to. Electronically created signals override the background signals by transmitting a powerful "carrier wave" and a weaker "modulated" wave, which causes a slight fluctuation in perception against the carrier wave and this is the actual vibration of the coded signal. 5. UTILITY POLE GRID [link] The Utility grid itself operates at just above the E.L.F. frequency. There are also microwave transmitters that are part of the cell phone network inside the large barrels on many telephone poles. Microwaves can transmit a sound directly into the cochlea of the human ear. The processes inside the human body and the processes of the electronic grid are overlapping enough that if someone who had control over what kind of signals the grid transmitted, they could remotely influence the muscles, the immune system, and the mental state of the target. Now, remember the collider cloud consciences, and keep in mind that these have been interacting with the utility pole grid for over half a century on this planet. If someone intending to influence society decided to attach a Brain Computer Interface to the utility pole grid, they would be in the center of a nationwide lifeform influencing interaction system. 6. COMPUTER INTERFACES Another E.L.F. signal delivery system may be in computer and television screens. LCD and plasma displays operate in a range that overlaps biological processes. Cancer may be signals interfering with the normal communication of the body's cells, causing nuclei to become confused and grow out of control. Desktops, laptops, and cell phones often have multiple modes of transmission of wireless data; WIFI, Bluetooth, microwave, and satellite systems are all very common. PORTABLE TRANSMITTERS MAY BE A WILD CARD Those who seek to influence the world through unseen and unseemly methods may have recently deployed a network of devices intended to control the natural interactions of the Collider Cloud Beings, & even the spirit world. 7. MULTI-FREQUENCY DEVICE From my own experiences arguing with operators of a portable transmitter network, the device was a red box about 18 inches long, 12 inches wide, and about 12 inches tall. It had an 8 inch wide cylinder on top, which I believe houses an electromagnetic coiled superconductor that acts as a bright electric beacon to draw in energy beings (what Tornado Over Huntsville, Alabama (NASA, University of Alabama at Huntsville, 01/21/10) An EF-2 tornado forms over the University of Alabama campus in Huntsville, Ala., on Jan. 21, 2010. The evening sky above Huntsville, Ala., held an eerie look on Thursday, Jan. 21, but few knew looming overhead was an EF-2 tornado waiting to descend on a downtown neighborhood. The Huntsville storm system didn't produce an abnormally large amount of lightning, typically a key indicator of severe weather, and the weather community was focused on larger hail-producing thunderstorms moving through southern Tennessee that looked more threatening. Scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville are studying these recent storms by looking at data from three unique weather monitoring tools to gain a better picture of how storms evolve to produce both heavy rain or large hail, and subsequent strong winds or tornadoes. Researchers are using observations from the Advanced Radar for Meteorological and Operational Research, or ARMOR, radar operated by the University of Alabama Huntsville and NASA Lightning-Mapping Array System and disdrometer data to understand storm precipitation types -- rain, snow or hail -- and how those amounts relate to the amount of lightning produced. This early storm research supports the development of future weather monitoring systems like the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, or GOES-R, that will observe Earth's weather from space. A better understanding of these storm system could be the difference in a more accurate and timely prediction and would have been useful on Jan. 21. The tornado was later classified as an EF-2 as defined by the Enhanced Fujita Scale, created by Dr. T. Theodore Fujita in 1971, which categorizes each tornado by intensity and area and estimated wind speed associated with the resultant damage. Southern states typically view early spring as tornado season, but they can occur any time of year if the conditions are right. They usually form around violent thunderstorms where there is sufficient instability and wind shear in the lower atmosphere. "In order to predict severe weather you have to understand how a storm works, and to understand how they work you need to make measurements and observations," said Dr. Walt Petersen, a physical scientist at the Marshall Center. "In terms of societal impacts, we need to be able to reliably measure and predict the occurrence of things like rainfall, lightning and tornadoes to offer more timely warnings." The ARMOR radar helps scientists understand precipitation processes in the storm from the ground to the top. ARMOR remotely takes precipitation measurements since it is not possible to get to the high-altitude core of these monstrous storms. The analysis of the radar data starts by examining particle size information collected by disdrometers at the surface. Using this information, Petersen and his colleagues can calibrate the ARMOR low-elevation scans and then extend the calibration to look higher in the storm. This enables scientists to diagnose the precipitation particle sizes and shapes at the base and higher into the storm. The internal precipitation properties of the storm are then compared to lightning production. Lightning data is taken from the Lightning Mapping Array system that collects lightning measurements from a set of 10 antennas positioned around northern Alabama. The lightning array senses the radiation emitted by lightning flashes in the very high frequency bands between the 60 to 100 megahertz range. The resultant data provide scientists with a three-dimensional location for each lightning flash within a given thunderstorm and those locations can be compared to ARMOR radar data collected for the same part of the storm. ARMOR is a dual-polarimetric Doppler radar meaning that it works by transmitting pulses of microwave energy in vertical and horizontal orientations that are then scattered back to the radar in the same orientations. From the echo, or return of the horizontally and vertically oriented radar pulses, scientists can measure specific properties of the precipitation within a given cloud including the particle size, shape and type, as well as the precipitation rate and the relative velocity of the wind that is moving those precipitation particles either toward or away from the radar, or the Doppler-shifted wind. Disdrometer data is also collected to provide information on individual precipitation particle sizes, shapes and numbers -- they connect what is going on at the particle scale to what scientists observe in the beam of the radar. "To provide reliable and timely predictions, scientists need to understand the entire storm system by observing and measuring the physics of each process and how they are related," said Petersen. "We are attempting to do this by combining radar, lightning and disdrometer data for analysis. By studying all these data points together we're able to connect the dots between precipitation formati frequency range of microwaves The New, Improved 9000 Series clamp-ons have many new features including backlit displays - plus temperature, capacitance, and frequency on select models. How long to cook an egg in the microwave - 700 watt microwaves How Long To Cook An Egg In The Microwave
Cafe Rouge Greenwich Almost as soon as I was back in Dover, my phone rang; it was someone I met through Flickr asking what our plans were for the weekend and did we fancy a trip to London on Saturday. It had been a tiring couple of days, and the thought of lazing around the house with Jools and the cats was tempting. But soon enough I will be back on the high seas and pining for a day out in London. So, we agreed to meet up with them on the train to London at Ashford, and a wander around Greenwich was planned. Greenwich was where time was invented; until then everything happened at the same time, or when it felt like it. As time became popular, mainly because boiled eggs were now no longer raw, time began to catch on and people began to carry watches. We arrived in Greenwich and we all decided that we were hungry; and the cafe chosen was Cafe Rouge; a pretend french cafe that is a chain as much as Starbucks and Subway; but more expensive. And the menu is in French. In truth the food was rubbish, probably because the chef was not French, and looked like all the meals had been heated up in a microwave. Possibly because that is how they were cooked. we walked through the thick London traffic until we came to the entrance to the park, and there were trees, grass and dogs crapping. Some of which were good, others not so. But the walk up the hill was good, and we had great views not just of London, but of people. Not all of whom were Londoners; although quite what a Londoner is these days is open to question. People visit the Royal Observatory at Greenwich to stand on the prime meridian, one foot in the west and the other in the east. And have their photograph taken. There must be several people now with pictures of themselves thus. We were beyond that, and we made do with spectacular views down the hill of Greenwich park, over the Maritime Museum and across the Thames to the docklands, and the towering new buildings around Canary warf, which used to be the symbol of the new wealth in the country, but now is just the very large elephant in the room. At this point our friends were going to head off to the Bodyworks exhibition; seeing dead people in poses that made them look like Hannibal lecter's wet dream maybe some folks' idea of fun, but not mine. And Jools had seen it. So we parted and headed into the City where another espisode of 28 Days Later seemed to being filmed. In truth, it was deserted because shops in the City only open during the seek when the speculators and foolish are there working, and at weekends the shops are all closed, the streets empty, and is in general a photographer's dream. We went to leadenhall Market, a location of the Harry Potter films; have you heard of them? I think they might do well. And then to the Lloyds Building; a modern structure, built inside out, but wonderful in a Bladerunner kind of way. I snapped away. Our final call was Borough Market; a foodies delight where all fresh produce and food is sold two days a week. We walked across London Bridge and then down the steep steps past Southwark Cathedral and into the throngs milling around the market. Under the Victorian wrought iron arches we bought a rack of lamb, some chicory, corn, some walnut and almond bread and then walked to nearby London Bridge Station for the journey home. For all our fancy talk of taking in a show that night and catching the last train home, we were tired and just wanted to relax in front of the fire drinking coffee with maybe a cat or two on our laps. Sunday was a bright and sunny day; and we began our rambling again. Rambling is to walk for pleasure, or something. And we had not been on one for many months. I could say we have been busy, but that would be a lie. Anyway, we were welcomed back, and we began the six mile walk around near where we live, past windmills, farms and through woods and fields, all full of the joys of spring. We are the youngest ones in the group, but not the fittest; hell no. But we enjoyed it, and the views which you just don't get from the car window. At least after a couple of hours hard stumbling, the cold pizza for lunch did seem that we had earned it, not just being lazy. The weather turned wet in the afternoon, and the wind did blw; so just a visit to the in-laws and then back home to cook the rack of lamb, roast potatoes in goose fat and fresh aspargus with grated Parmisan cheese washed down with a bottle of Spanish red. Time for bed said Zebedee. Boing Avgolemono - Traditional Greek Egg Lemon Soup This is one of my favourite dishes. I've loved it whilst I was growing up and still love it now. So quick and easy and delicious and I'm going to share it with you. Avgolemono is the traditional sauce used in many dishes in the Greek, Arabic and turkish homelands. It is basically eggs and lemon and is used in soups and as sauces on various dishes. In this instance it is a chicken and rice dish that I cook it with. Ingredients 500 grams chicken thigh fillets cut into small pieces. (I don't use breast as it dries out too quickly). 2-3 lemons (lemon juice of 2-3 lemons to be exact. Have it ready to pour). 2 eggs 1 cup rice chicken stock water salt & pepper Tools A pot - however large you want it but a regular size will suffice, say 4-6 litre. Mixer - or any other way use go about beating egg whites into white peaky goodness. Steps. - Make your chicken stock. I simply use some stock cubes but if you've got your own way of doing so, and you want to do so with the chicken ingredients from above, go for it. - As you're making the stock, add the rice and let it boil nice and good. Don't worry about it splitting, just boil it. - add salt and pepper to taste as you please. - Once you're happy with the broth, turn off the heat and let it stand for a few minutes. We need it to cool so it doesn't curdle the egg sauce. Now to make the avgolemono - Separate the 2 egg whites into your mixing bowl, keeping the egg yolks off to the side somewhere. - beat the egg whites till they lightly peak. It doesn't matter if you go beyond that, just make sure they are not still runny. - Add the egg yolks whilst you are still beating/mixing. - Pour in the lemon juice. Here's the tricky part. - Using a ladle, and whilst you are mixing on your lowest speed, slowly scoop some broth out of the pot and into the mixer. - Keep doing so for anywhere up to 10 scoops. We are slowly getting the temperature of the eggs up to the broth to avoid curdling. - The egg lemon sauce will get thinner as you do this and that's what we want, we don't need the peaky egg whites any longer. - When you are happy with the mixing. Turn off the mixer and pour the egg lemon sauce back into the broth. ALL of it. - Using the ladle, stir the broth and the egg lemon sauce together for a few minutes. The soup itself will be thin and there will be a layer of frothy egg sauce on top. That's perfectly normal. Simply serve in bowls and hope you've made enough when you have cravings to go back for more. Don't forget to add cracked pepper on top too, if you're so inclined. Tastes even better the next day too. If it thickens up the next day, just add some more water before re-heating (stove or microwave) and enjoy again. If you make it, I'd like to know how your results were. The most common light sources are thermal: a body at a given temperature emits a characteristic spectrum of black-body radiation. Examples include sunlight (the radiation emitted by the chromosphere of the Sun at around 6,000 K peaks in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum when plotted in wavelength units [1] and roughly 40% of sunlight is visible), incandescent light bulbs (which emit only around 10% of their energy as visible light and the remainder as infrared), and glowing solid particles in flames. The peak of the blackbody spectrum is in the infrared for relatively cool objects like human beings. As the temperature increases, the peak shifts to shorter wavelengths, producing first a red glow, then a white one, and finally a blue color as the peak moves out of the visible part of the spectrum and into the ultraviolet. These colors can be seen when metal is heated to "red hot" or "white hot". Blue thermal emission is not often seen. The commonly seen blue colour in a gas flame or a welder's torch is in fact due to molecular emission, notably by CH radicals (emitting a wavelength band around 425 nm). Atoms emit and absorb light at characteristic energies. This produces "emission lines" in the spectrum of each atom. Emission can be spontaneous, as in light-emitting diodes, gas discharge lamps (such as neon lamps and neon signs, mercury-vapor lamps, etc.), and flames (light from the hot gas itself—so, for example, sodium in a gas flame emits characteristic yellow light). Emission can also be stimulated, as in a laser or a microwave maser. Deceleration of a free charged particle, such as an electron, can produce visible radiation: cyclotron radiation, synchrotron radiation, and bremsstrahlung radiation are all examples of this. Particles moving through a medium faster than the speed of light in that medium can produce visible Cherenkov radiation. Certain chemicals produce visible radiation by chemoluminescence. In living things, this process is called bioluminescence. For example, fireflies produce light by this means, and boats moving through water can disturb plankton which produce a glowing wake. Certain substances produce light when they are illuminated by more energetic radiation, a process known as fluorescence. Some substances emit light slowly after excitation by more energetic radiation. This is known as phosphorescence. Phosphorescent materials can also be excited by bombarding them with subatomic particles. Cathodoluminescence is one example. This mechanism is used in cathode ray tube television sets and computer monitors. "six hours" neon light bulb by Julia Bickerstaff So I made a new more economical light bulb for the toilet at the neon workshops as seen here. A light bulb with a difference! I first drew the outline I wanted but as I began to blow the glass I didnt refer to the drawing I had drawn, preferring to make it by eye, Giving it the slightly ad hock lack of perfect symmetry and a much freer appeal. The reason why this piece happened? out of need for the time being. When experiments to display the fundamentals of light waves, UV light x ray waves and so on. Matt Dilling placed the standard tungsten light bulb in the microwave this displays induction (don't try it at home!) . But the poor filament didn't make it, but it lit up for a while, excited by the X-rays passing through it. It's small size makes it highly portable and easy to store, and is especially great for frothing individual cups. This cute handheld milk frother is fun and easy to use; British celebrity chef Nigella Lawson recommends it over steam-driven frothers. Plus, in addition to its most popular use--creating delicate foam for homemade cappuccinos, lattes, or hot chocolates-- the Aerolatte milk frother can be used for other, equally yummy treats. An enclosed recipe sheet offers ideas for fruit "shakes" and coffee frappes that can be made with any kind of cow, goat, sheep, soy or rice milk! Some restaurant chefs even froth milk to foam garnish earthy soups. The frother is easy to use, with a simple black toggle button to turn it on. Hold the stainless steel head just below foam level to keep froth building. The shape of the steel-toned, satin-finished handle is curved in the right places and flattened on the sides for a comfortable grip. When it's time to replace the batteries, a black ridged cover slides off to reveal the battery chamber. (It’s important to use alkaline batteries with the Aerolatte milk frother.) To clean, turn the frother on and dip the whisk in hot soapy water; rinse well, and turn again briefly to spin dry. Wipe the handle with a damp cloth; do not immerse handle in water. The whisk is not removable from the battery handle. The milk frother measures 8-1/2 by 1-1/2 inches. Two AA alkaline batteries are included, as well as a recipe and instruction sheet. Aerolatte guarantees the Original Steam-Free frother for five years. --Garland Withers (16) Mango sticky rice Sooo yummy for dessert. I use this microwave recipe from thaitable.com since I don't have a special Thai rice steamer cone: Soak 1 cup sticky rice for 10 minutes in warm water in a bowl. Soaking the rice is very important. The water level should be just above the rice, which comes out to be 1 cup of rice and a little over 1 cup of water (about 10% more). Use a microwave safe container. Cover and cook in the microwave at full power 3 minutes and then stir. Heat it up again for another 3 minutes. Check and see if it is done. When cooked, all the rice should be translucent. If it needs more cooking heat it up and check every 3 minutes or so. It should be slightly chewy and underdone, otherwise it will continue to cook and get too mushy. Heat 1 cup coconut milk (full fat thai kitchen is the best in my opinion) in a pot over medium heat. Stir constantly and let the coconut milk simmer but don't boil! Add 2 heaping Tbsp. sugar and 2 pinches salt. Remove from heat. Pour 3/4 of the hot coconut milk over the hot sticky rice. Let it sit for 5 minutes. The sticky rice will absorb all the coconut milk. The rice should be a little mushy. Spoon the rest of the coconut milk on top of the rice at serving time. Peel and slice ripe mango. Place sticky rice on a small plate and top with mango. Spoon the coconut milk on top of the mango and sticky rice. first attempt, pouring hot chocolate like latte art not that i claim to be able to do latte art, even with espresso. but, you know what i mean. so, the trick is to pour the syrup in and microwave it for a few seconds so that it is thinner and therefore will move more like espresso does when you pour the steamed milk in. with a little practice, my hot chocolates should look like my lattes/cappuccinos. i like to have a little something for everyone in the bar. Terra has started adding tea stuff and creative hot chocolates are also much-needed. btw, it was indeed delicious. this one was for me, so, it was made with Hershey's Special Dark syrup and unsweetened chocolate powder on top. we have a variety of chocolate syrups and other syrups, powders, sprinkles, etc., so these could be a lot of fun :) i now want to try a mocha in the same style - pulling an espresso shot into the cup, and pouring in hot chocolate syrup and THEN pour the milk in and, maybe, the two colors of the crema and chocolate will stay at least somewhat separate from each other. tomorrow. either way, when these get better looking, i'll post a pic again. The design is new, inside and out. The cavity is larger with 1.2 cu. ft. capacity, tall enough to hold your favorite mug or a 20 oz. cup from your favorite take-out coffee store. The new open towel bar handle and concealed louvers give this model a contemporary, quality look and feel. Easier Accessibility Just pull or push the Microwave Drawer handle and Sharp's exclusive Easy Open system activates a motor to open or close the drawer automatically. For even easier access, the control panel also features Open and Close buttons for one-finger operation. Smaller, lower drawer slides make the cavity more accessible so it's easier to clean the top and back walls. And best of all, there's (10) Emptied the Kitchen Junk Drawer Most kitchens I've poked around in have a drawer filled with odd items: a mix of tools, implements, scraps of paper, doo-dads. Not necessarily for cooking, but for stitching the home together. String, scissors, checkbooks, rulers, tape measures. Extracting something from these drawers typically involves an intense sifting process. I felt inspired to empty our junk drawer today - here are 90% of the contents. I will pare these contents down to the appropriate items, and then perhaps purchase sub-receptacles for them, within the drawer. Perhaps. Perhaps just a lesser volume of stuff will suffice. Vintage drawer pull & chandelier necklace Ornate vintage brass drawer pull mixed with vintage glass faux pearl chain and vintage textured brass chain. Drawer pull hinge is able to come apart at the hinge so I've incorporated that into the design as the clasp. It won't come apart accidentally, you have to pull the bottom part all the way up vertically in order to separate the two pieces. microwave drawer dimensions Solid Beechwood Kitchen Cart with 2 drop leaves. Perfect for small kitchens that need more workspace, Winsome Wood's rolling drop-leaf cart packs a lot into its compact dimensions. The top counter offers a roomy food prep area with two foldout sides that add almost 10 more inches in length. Underneath are a deep drawer for utensils and tools, an open shelf, and two cabinet drawers with storage space for tall and large items. Crated of solid beechwood with brushed nickel hardware, this handy cart moves on lockable casters wherever it's needed, then slides out of the way when not in use. It measures 25-1/4 inches wide by 20 inches deep by 33-1/4 inches high; and it expands to 45 inches wide with the drop leaves up. But often the efforts of individual units are not coordinated, resulting in conflicts, lost opportunities, and diminished performance Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton argue that the responsibility for this critical alignment lies with corporate headquarters. In this book, the authors apply their revolutionary Balanced Scorecard management system to corporate-level strategy, revealing how highly successful enterprises achieve powerful synergies by explicitly defining corporate headquarters' role in setting, coordinating, and overseeing organisational strategy. Based on extensive field research in organisations worldwide, "Alignment" shows how companies can build an enterprise-level Strategy Map and Balanced Scorecard that clearly articulate the "enterprise value proposition": how the enterprise creates value above that achieved by individual business units operating alone. The book provides case studies, actionable frameworks, and sample scorecards that show how to align business and support units, boards of directors, and external partners with the corporate strategy and create a governance process that will ensure that alignment is sustained. The next breakthrough in strategy execution from the field's premier thinkers, "Alignment" shows how today's companies can unlock unrealised value from enterprise synergies. The year is 1799, and Richard Sharpe is just beginning his military career. An inexperienced young private in His Majesty's service, Sharpe becomes part of an expedition to India to push the ruthless Tippoo of Mysore from his throne and drive out his French allies. Sharpe realizes that one slip will mean disaster. And when the furious British assault on the city finally begins, Sharpe must take up arms against his true comrades to preserve his false identity, risking death at their hands in order to avoid detection and thus to foil the Tippoo's well-set trap.
