Red and black
Crvena je boja alkemiskog Kamena mudraca, kamena što nosi znak sunca, boja Svetoga Duha. To je boja žrtve, nebeskih vatri, boja ljepote i bogatstva, ljubavi ali i rata, boja krvi, uzbuđenja, strasti i mržnje. To je boja duše, libida i srca, ali i znanja, ezoteričke spoznaje i tajnih vještina. Čarobnjaci nose crvene plaštove. Prema biblijskim legendama za stvaranje čovjeka bila je upotrijebljena crvena glina. U Japanu to je boja iskrenosti i sreće i nose je isključivo žene. U drevnom Rimu crvena je bila boja plemstva, generala i patricija. U Rusiji i Kini crvena boja prati sve narodne svetkovine, posebno proljetne, zatim vjenčanje i rođenje; za zdravu djecu kaže se da su rumena. Sanjati crveno – sreća u ljubavi.
Simbolika crnog je najčešće negativna: mrak, smrt, tuga, beznađe, nesreća, kaos, bezdan... Crna boja je boja Sotone, vještica, demona i vraga. Crno se identificira sa manifestacijama zla; u tarotu to je boja Smrti. Crnim jajima pripisivale su se magične moći. Vjerovalo se da crna kokoš nagovještava bijedu a crni pijetlovi navodno su se pretvarali u demonske zmajeve i zle duhove. Crna golubica u starom Egiptu bila je hijeroglif za ženu koja ostaje udovica do kraja života, a Jahač Apokalipse jaše crnog konja. Crni čovjek je postao jedan od najpoznatijih magijskih simbola koji ulijevaju strah, a od susreta s crnom mačkom ponekad se očekivala i - sreća. Rimljani su nesretan dan označivali crnim kamenom, a Juda izdajnik okružen je crnim.
Pojava crnih životinja i mračnih zastrašujućih likova u snovima, najpoznstiji psihoanalitičari povezuju sa približavanjem primitivnom instiktivnom svijetu, koji treba osvjetliti, ukrotiti i snagu mu usmjeriti ka višim ciljevima. Vezati cvijeće crnim koncem ili crnom vrpcom predskazuje skoru smrt, ali se crna vrpca koristila i kao sredstvo protiv gušavosti, zubobolje i glavobolje. Tko uza se nosi zub od crnog psa – nikad ga pas neće napasti i ugristi!
