A gluten-free diet is a diet completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals: wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, Malts and triticale, as well as the use of gluten as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent.
There is not wheat, rye, barley or oat gluten present in the product. Products are randomly tested to ensure that there is no contamination of gluten from other sources.

yesterday morning's kitchen scene. i finally have an answer for why i've been sick for so long. it's celiac. a gluten intolerance that you can have for your whole life. it can be relatively dormant for year and then it can be set off by something stressful, traumatic or abrupt. it can give you horrible stomach pains, headaches, exhaustion, joint pain, foggy memory. the only way to treat it is to eliminate gluten from your diet completely. it's a lot harder than it sounds. gluten hides in a crazy amount of stuff! i'm also lactose intolerant (almost 50% of celiac people are). whole foods is a bit expensive but everything is clearly labeled gluten free so it's a great help when i'm first starting out. lots of fresh veggies, fruits, meat and a few packaged items. i've got a few books to read but this is my second day completely gluten free and i'm already feeling better. i didn't wake up with a headache for the first time in months. my stomach doesn't hurt right after i eat. ahhhh. finally.

Before I realized that I was about to get really torqued off about them telling me that I did NOT want to size down my engagement ring to a 7.5 from a 7.75 that I REALLY should go to a size 7, and then I wasn't able to put it on my finger, I went to the Giant in Annapolis on Riva Rd at Forest Dr. They had a HUGE gluten-free section with baking mixes, frosting, ice cream cones, cookies, cereal, breadsticks, italian bread crumbs which made me So. Happy. I don't buy pre-made gluten-free food all that often (I didn't even buy these cones), because I can usually make it (except maybe these cones) better and more cheaply at home. But boy do I appreciate the effort.
