0559 - Truss 2, Floor Progress The second truss is being assembled. We determined after putting the second one together that we weren't going to use the third truss. What made us decide that was the fact that the actual front of the church hadn't been completed to the point where we could use the third truss, so we decided that what they would do is to build a beam across the front, and then they could stack stair-stepped blocks on top of that beam to "build it up" to the level of the roof, and then they could pour a new roof support with steel embedded int the concrete to use as support for the roof. We didn't get to that point in the building process before we left, and I don't envy the team that had to deal with that problem! The guys are making progress on the floor as you can see. It was slow at first, as they had to make their "floats" and leveling devices out of pieces of wood, and then they had to make a "guide" that kept the level of the center section at the right height. New fireplace, floors The fireplace is now converted to gas only. No more wood. This is preferred in Sacramento where most days you aren't allowed to burn wood anyway. The floors are 3/4-inch tongue-in-groove red oak floating on a thin pad over a concrete slab foundation.
