Candidiasis Diet: Foods To Eat And Avoid

When you have a problem with recurring yeast infections, you are likely fed up with taking round after round of drugs. These recurring infections are often caused by an overgrowth of the candida fungus in your body. Candida grows naturally in your body, but overgrowth can occur for a variety of reasons. One of the most common reasons for such overgrowth pertains to your diet. This may account for many recurring infections, because treating overgrowth takes care of the issue at hand but does not address the cause of the issue. Following a candidiasis diet will address the cause of the issue, and will help to prevent recurring infections.

When you follow a candidiasis diet, you will be consuming foods that work to prevent such an overgrowth of this natural fungus inside your body, and limiting foods that encourage the overgrowth. Keep in mind that this “cure” will be effective only as long as you follow the diet. If you don't stick with the diet and begin consuming foods that encourage yeast growth in your body again, you likely will experience an infection once again.

So what foods should you avoid on a candidiasis diet? Foods with refined sugars like corn syrup, white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, and others should be avoided. Other foods include yeasty foods such as baked goods and cheeses, vinegar, fresh fruits, and wheat products. Foods that are considered safe on the candidiasis diet include fresh meats of any type, dried or frozen fruits, vegetables, and other such natural and unprocessed foods.

For many people, this diet will involve significant changes to their current eating habits, and many of these changes are those that are difficult to maintain over the long term. Some people will find that following the candidiasis diet strictly for several weeks is enough to restore a natural balance of the candida in their body and to prohibit overgrowth. Certainly after suffering through infection after infection, you won't want to go back to old eating habits completely and deal with yet another infection. However, some people find that when they have restored themselves to optimal health, they may be able to eat a few more items that are otherwise prohibited on this diet safely when they are consumed in moderation and in conjunction with other items that are on the eating plan. You will have to work hard to try to find a healthy balance that includes foods you enjoy eating and that are healthy for your body, too.
