The page on the right are my daughter's drawings... she loves to contribute to my journal. She has her own, has been keeping one since she was 3 or 4. But I love to let her add things to mine once in a while. I remember a story of a very stern dad whose naughty child scribbled in a very expensive Bible. All the other siblings were waiting a for the dad to "loose it". But instead he surprised everyone and took back the Bible and took the pen and wrote his son's name and the date next to those scriblings.... This story really hit home with me and soon, sure enough, my own son took a highlighter to mine..... And now that's he's almost 9 I see his scribblings and his name and date and I smile....

Live at The Blue Note (Benny's From Heaven)

Live at The Blue Note (Benny's From Heaven)

James Moody's hilarious parody of Pennies from Heaven...

It was a long time ago,
A second lieutenant named Spears
Returned to the States
After being overseas three years
His wife said, "Welcome home, dear,
But since you've been gone, you see
We've been blessed with this darling baby,
And a cute little one is he."

She took that baby in her arms
She said, "Benny is his name."
He said, "I've been gone away three years,
Darling can you please explain?
So I won't feel so down,
Tell me, where did little Benny come from?"

Every time he'd ask, she's say, "Benny's from heaven."
You're right, she'd repeatedly say, "Benny's from heaven."
He said, I've asked all the neighbors that come around
No one can seem to remember Benny comin' down.
Now about a little thing thing like this,
I wouldn't bother;
But one thing I know about children,
They've got to have fathers.
And when I look at Benny, I can plainly see,
That Benny must be from heaven,
'Cause he darn sure ain't from me."

A Calabash in Calabash.

A Calabash in Calabash.

Swear. To. God.

This woman was purchasing a calabash gourd in a thrift shop in Calabash, N.C. I'm pretty sure it's from west Africa, and not the Carolinas - it's been fashioned into a "rainmaker" - type musical instrument (like a Guiro). The town (pop. 711 in 2000!) was, in fact, named for the gourd that was "imported" from Africa and used for containers during slavery. They say that they grew there too .. I wonder if that's true and if anyone is still growing them. Regardless, you never see them, and I'm sure this came from a music store originally.

The woman who owned the place said "We should be holding up a bunch of fried food - that would be more representative of Calabash."

FUJI ROCK WITH ROXY MUSIC

FUJI ROCK WITH ROXY MUSIC

Roxy Music are an English art rock group formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesizer and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesizer and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time.
Roxy Music attained popular and critical success in the UK, Europe and Australia during the 1970s and early 1980s, beginning with their debut album, Roxy Music (1972).[1] The band was highly influential, as leading proponents of the more experimental, musically sophisticated element of glam, as well as a significant influence on early English punk music. They also provided a model for many New Wave acts and the experimental electronic groups of the early 1980s. The group is distinguished by their visual and musical sophistication and their preoccupation with style and glamour.[2] Ferry and co-founding member Eno have also had influential solo careers, the latter becoming one of the most significant record producers and collaborators of the late 20th century.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Roxy Music #98 on its "The Immortals – 100 The Greatest Artists of All Time" list.[3]
A new studio album, which would have been their ninth, began recording in 2005. It would have been Roxy's first record with Brian Eno since 1973, who wrote two songs for it as well as played keyboards.[4] However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks,"[5] and that he doesn't think they'll record as Roxy Music again.[6] Subsequently, this was confirmed by the announcement of a solo Bryan Ferry album, entitled Olympia.
