House renovation for student org - Fireplace cleaning

(Manhattan, KS) - At the campus ministry house, some of the volunteers spent the first shift from 10am-noon cleaning the chimney. Here, one volunteer finishes the job by working on the grate for the fireplace. Volunteers also unloaded several hundred new chairs from the delivery truck, and cleaned the kitchen.

Bamboo bike mock-up. So far the plan for this bike will be a single ring up front with some 8 speed internal rear hub. I'll throw some canti brakes on and some 30c tires and see where I can go from there. Bamboo is a bit weird to work with as it's more like shop class in junior high. I have the wood working one week and then "plastics" the next. You can see by the shop floor that carbon and Kevlar are not the cleanest things to work with.

Wash It Out

Colon clean out 1 of 3 done this morning. At times I had the exact
same sensation as when I feel sick on a run. Tells me I am targeting
the right thing for now. Sign on the wall said, "Sickness and health
start in the colon. ". I am rarely sick but my colon is super
sluggish. That is always confirmed when you look in the clear tube and
see the results. I saw a small yellow leaf in there today. Anyone up
for HD video for the next one? Oh, I will do it. Don't tempt me.

Jaina Lefevre slips into the church, a baseball bat looped through the straps of her pack. She's scuffing her sneakers on the carpet and moving towards the altar, head down, looking less than her usually bubbly self. She pauses at the step and looks up at the candles. "Hi God. I gotta talk wif you. I miss Conor and River. I even sorta miss Caty even though I don't see her much. I really miss Luci. I found Conor a new bat and I got a cool flashlight thingy that I bet River will like, but they ain't talkin' to me 'cause I tryin' to help the other kids too. How come I can't have my old friends /and/ my new friends? Huh? God? You gonna answer?" She turns around and sits down, the bat clacking a little on the stone floor as she lets her shoulders sag. "Figures. He don't like me no more either."

River Grau was somewhere hiding under a pew like he tends to do when he has nothing to do or didn't want to be bothered. An ear flicked as he heard the steps of a small child entering the church and then the girl's familiar voice. Things tend to echo inside an empty church so he could hear most of her prayer unless it was low enough. Pushing out from under, he stood up. “We don't hate you. Just annoyed 'cause you're hanging out with Rai and Muggles. They don't fight 'cause they gotta, they fight 'cause they wanna. Gonna turn into those kinds of adults, and they ain't helping kids. They're helping those in the group and picking on kids not in the group. That ain't right, Jaina.”

Jaina Lefevre looks up at River. "You said you hated me. You called me garbage. And you said lies that Bastian said. That's not bein' my friend, that's bein' mean. You didn't even listen to what I said happened. You coulda even asked Mama. And they fight, yeah, but they don't fight Tengu kids and they is learnin'. It takes time to learn. And Rai said Conor threw the first punch...but I bet he said somethin' to make him mad anyway. I don't wanna choose. I wanna have both friends and you swore an /oaf/ that you'd help. And first time it got hard, you quit."

River Grau shakes his head, "I swore an oath that I'm gonna protect kids 'cause adults be causin' problems. I ain't swear an oath that I'm gonna sit 'round watching kids pick on other kids 'cause they ain't part of the gro up. And that's what i am doing. If I gotta do it without the Tengu, so be it. " He stepped towards Jaina, looking at her to see if she had the cut on her arm. "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings and I believed Bastian. I should'a asked you first." He sighed, "BUt if you're gonna let Rai do whatever he wants, and that Muggles kid, I can't be in it. Can't be some place they gonna start fights." She might notice the blood on his clothes as he stepped close.

River Grau seems to be trying to work on his temper. He hasn't yelled once yet!

Darkness Odigaunt slips in the church, out of normal hearing distance. She regards the two near the altar, but doesn't say a thing to either.

Jaina Lefevre: The scratch is there but healed as if it has been a couple of days already. "They wanna help, River, but they gotta be taught. They're good insides, but yellin' and walkin' away doesn't teach nothin'. We gotta /show/ them how it's s'posed to be. Rai's really nice when he's not bein' a boogerhead and he even thinks Conor's cool. He's kinda mad at you for swearin' you'd help then believin' Bastian and walkin out on us."

River Grau shakes his head, "Gotta prove he's nice for me to believe it and I ain't gotta sit there while he yells and calls me things even when I'm bein' good. Not gonna deal with it. You can deal with it all you want. If he and Muggles wanna do good things, they gotta prove it. Until then, I'm helpin' kids 'gainst adults in my own way. Bringing kids to eat at the kitchen and helpin' 'em like I helped You. And Kinami, even though she ain't remember it. Brought you both to the kitchen to eat."

Jaina Lefevre sighs. "I'm tryin' River. I am. He's already doin' better about stuff. No one ever tol' him stuff was bad." She pulls the pack around to her side and digs out the mini maglight on a keychain. "Here. I got this for you when I was in Levi. Thought you might like it."

River Grau shrugged, "Well, then he still gots to prove it. Gots to prove he's gonna be good and ain't gonna pick on the kids outside the group.. Then I'll help the group again." He looked to the mini light keychain curiously, not sure what to do. Not one had given him a present before that wasn't candy.

Jaina Lefevre sighs and looks at him "What about /me/? You gonna hates me cause I keep trying?" She hands him the thing and shows him how to twist it on and off. "Here..like this. The Op'tives use 'em and clip them to their vests." She pats the bat and leans back. "And I found another bat for Conor. Was hard to get it home, but I got one."

I used neat bleach, which on the container says is 3.5% hypochlorite. I've read you can dilute the bleach before spraying as neat bleach will eat holes in cloth. I'll let you know if holes develop in mine!

Let this be a lesson: re-seal your tile's grout after so many years, and if you buy a home with tiled bathroom, do your research into how to take care of it properly.

Or, you know, REALLY put your foot down so that you don't wind up with a house that has these issues.

Our house was a rental for at least a decade before we bought it, and the bare minimum was done in upkeep by the previous owner. I've known we'd have issues with this shower due to the amount of cracking, and the never-ending mildew battle, but the trouble? Yeah it's looking worse than what we imagined.

The shower in the Master Bath will be out of commission for a while.

Mildew has led to increased insurance rates and cancelled policies. We have been forced to absorb (no pun intended) the replacement cost of our possessions.

Sure, because of the current economy, the price of homes has decreased. But can you really afford to buy a new home every year. Maybe Warren Buffett or Bill Gates can but, unless you hit the Super Lotto and have not told your spouse or the IRS about it, I'm positive that you're not in that category.

So the question still remains: Mildew! I do! But how do You rid yourself of this problem?

The not very convincing drywall patch, which I spackled over sits between the outlet and cable jack. There are other repairs to this wall, however, that you can't easily see, which means they were a success. The dark vertical stripes would disappear when the painters got to this room. They were simply dust collection points between vertical panels on the back of an IKEA bookcase.

My husband advised me to use the shop-vac to clean up all these piles of drywall dust around the perimeter of the room and to clean up what was collected all along the base of the walls. What he didn't tell me was that, since we don't have a filter on our shop-vac, I'd basically be creating a gigantic dust cloud in the basement that wouldn't settle until around 2016.

Replacement GPU heatsink

I had to trim each of the 99 pins on the heatsink by 0.5cm, so it fitted under the DVD drive!

This larger heatsink replaces the fan+heatsink combination that the original Xbox shipped with. I used thermal tape to attach the heatsink to the GPU, which worked well and was clean and hassle free. The GPU operating temperature only increased by 1°C, which was better than I had hoped for.

At the same time I put some new thermal grease under the main CPU heatsink, which lowered its operating temperature.

Former Sunset Park Court House

Landmarks Preservation Commission June 26, 2001, Designation List 328 LP-2096

Located along New York Bay in the southwestern section of Brooklyn, the neighborhood now known as Sunset Park was one of the first areas of Brooklyn to be settled. The area was inhabited by fanners in the mid-seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; it was not until the 1830s when Brooklyn officially changed in status from a town to a city that surveyors began to map out city streets and development occurred.

In 1890, Irving T. Bush recognized the area's great potential for development and built a series of piers, warehouses, and factories linked by rail; the complex stretched from 32nd to 5 Is1 streets and was the largest commercial and industrial facility in New York, providing employment for over 20,000 workers. This, coupled with the 1905-1915 construction of the subway line under Fourth Avenue brought a substantial increase in development. The initial wave of residential and commercial development in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was followed by a second wave of development in the early 1930s of infill housing and public, religious, and institutional buildings.

At the time of the courthouse construction. Sunset Park was noted for its thriving Scandinavian immigrant population. The residential center of this growing neighborhood was Fourth Avenue, the broad parkway where several churches and public buildings had been erected. Two notable religious and civic structures-St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church and Parish School (1905, Raymond F. Almirall, architect) and the former 68th Precinct Station House and Stable (1886, Emile M. Gruwe, architect, a designated New York City Landmark) were joined by the Sunset Park Courthouse in 1931 to form a small cluster of civic and religious buildings that acted as Sunset Park's social center. By the late 1940s several factors led to the decline of Sunset Park—the advent of the Depression, the cessation of the Third Avenue elevated line and the subsequent construction of the Gowanus Expressway.

The move of the maritime industry from Brooklyn to New Jersey in the 1960s and the attendant loss of jobs intensified economic decline in Sunset Park. A combination of local, state, and federal aid in the 1970s helped to improve the area's economy, and during the 1980s, Sunset Park experienced an influx of Asian and Latin-American immigrants and a commercial and industrial resurgence.

Twentieth Century Municipal and Magistrates' Courthouses in New York City

Prior to the twentieth century, courts were largely housed along with other governmental functions in city or village halls. After 1851, Brooklyn City Hall (now Brooklyn Borough Hall) was used for most court sessions. With New York's growing population, local courts hearing civil cases were expanded in the 1880s, and by 1898, they had been reorganized as the municipal court. At the same time the local police court evolved into a separate magistrates' court, but this court was often still located near, or even connected to, a police station.3 For example in Sunset Park, the new magistrates' court built in 1931 was located across the street from the existing 68th Police Precinct House.

At least ten municipal and magistrates' courts were built in the early twentieth century in New York. By 1918, there were thirty-one magistrates courts handling more than 200,000 arraignments. In Brooklyn, magistrates' courts were built at Gates Avenue (1903-4), Snyder Avenue (1912-2), Liberty Avenue (1929), and in Sunset Park (1931).

The 1930s was the busiest decade for court building, with eleven buildings constructed; all but one from this period still exist but have been put to other uses. Over half of the eleven were built between 1930-1932—the boom years for court construction in New York City, and most of these were designed in a Classical Revival style. Mary B. Dierickx in The Architecture of Public Justice describes the design of courthouses of this period as follows:

Classical styles predominate.... There are design elements commonly associated with courthouses: a long flight of steps; prominent entrance often marked by columns; low height; high bases, often in stone or set apart by water tables, and classical details such as a molded or dentillated cornice and pedimented doors and windows.4

With its finely proportioned plan and entrance supported by six Ionic columns, the Sunset Park Court House is an excellent example of a rich and faithful translation of this Classical style. In 1962, the New York City court system was reorganized and became more centralized; and many of these local courthouses, including the one in Sunset Park became obsolete.

In June 24, 1930, Mortimer Dickerson Metcalfe filed permits for the construction of the Sunset Park Court House. The building permit notes the new courthouse would be three stories with a basement.

Entitled: During the famine, young child dying in the gutter, China [1946] G Silk [RESTORED] I cleaned a few spots, adjusted contrast and darkened tonality for stronger visual impact, and added a sepia tone.

George Silk was a LIFE Magazine staffer, working for them 30 years. He extensively covered many aspects of the second world war, at one point being even captured by the Germans, and then fortunately escaping. He was also the first photographer to document Nagasaki after the atomic bombing. Immediately after the war, he was in China recording the poor social conditions and the lack of resources and its devastating effects on the Chinese populace.

Whether one reads Anderson's Little Match Girl or sees Takahata's anime adaptation of Nosaka's Grave of the Fireflies one cannot help but be thunderstruck with compassion over the plight of impoverished children, and of China it was no different. In the desperate and unforgiving times of the post war period, China was devastated and its streets overflowed with those least able to fend for themselves. Too young to steal food with sustainable reliability and too old and too many to elicit the short supply of compassion of a war numbed society, child orphans were left to scrape a daily existence from whatever they begged or fought for. More often than not, they lost that fight.

This is not a pleasant image, and indeed I was conflicted about even submitting it. However, in the final analysis, painful as it is, it remained an important historic document of the plight that wars bring to people, and the suffering that it engenders. We as a society today cannot help those that have already succumbed to the grinding poverty effects induced by previous wars. However, before we start any new ones, the least that we can do is remember those thousands of starved children, before we in our eager belligerent hubris, inadvertently create more.

An important note about LIFE MAGAZINE:

For those that weren't familiar with the magazine; in its heyday, Life Magazine could be best described as the National Geographic of people and society. From 1936, it offered mostly an intimate and fascinating view, with extensive picture stories or photo essays, into sections of social milieu that Americans could only imagine. Unfortunately, because of the high and rising costs of publishing, it essentially folded in 1972. Sadly, various attempts since then, to bring back this photojournalist's phenomenon (in various forms) met with little success.

All is not lost however; in probably one of the most magnanimous gestures that any corporation can make towards public image history, TIME, Inc., the current owners of the former Life Magazine, has offered up its vast photo archives of over TEN MILLION images to be freely available for non commercial use via GOOGLE's Search engine. Photographs can instantly convey a story in a way that words alone cannot. By releasing these pictures for public access, TIME, Inc., has helped to keep our collective history (as seen through Life Magazine) alive for future generations to appreciate. It is rare indeed to see such corporate generosity.

Sweet Warrior

I am in utter despair that I won’t be front and center for Richard Thompson’s Cropredy set next week, because he’s just put out his strongest album for years, and this from a musician I have always considered easily the finest of his genre.

Richard Thompson’s recent project “1,000 Years of Popular Music” is a gem, of course (and the DVD is as essential as the CD), and shows his unparalleled range of reference, but in a way it’s a side project. The original songs and the unique guitar playing are what he’s always been about about for me, and these new ones, so au courant (he appears in the booklet in soldier’s uniform and sings of terrorism and how “at least we’re winning on the Fox Evening News”,) are very, very intense.

“Take Care the Road You Choose” is, for personal reasons, my favorite. I’d quote it, but the whole thing is just gold-standard, so I’ll approvingly quote Amazon’s Thomas D. Ryan of NY instead, who says: "‘Take Care the Road You Choose’ may be the most gentle and poignant tale of regret I have ever heard."

Elvis Costello has called Richard Thompson “the finest songwriter Britain has ever produced,” and allegedly suggested that RT be named the UK’s poet laureate, but that doesn’t mean that every album’s uniformly brilliant. However, a selection of comments culled from various user reviews of actual listeners on Amazon (because we all know that the opinions of professional music reviewers don’t mean $*!t and never did) sum Sweet Warrior up:

“the man's a genius”

“he sounds like NO ONE ELSE.”

“The guitar playing throughout sends shivers down my spine.”

“this album will stand with RT's all-time bests”

“the strongest Thompson album in years”

“another brilliant Richard Thompson album”

Of the more substantial reviews, here are a few accurate samples:

tough time being objective about the man's music. We view him on a different
level of musicianship than the "normal" mortals who walk on stage. Thus, it's
difficult for me to rate any RT record lower than 4 stars.
Five stars, however, means the man has hit a mark as high as "Shoot Out the
Lights," "Mock Tudor," and the often overlooked "Across a Crowded Room." Five stars
it is for "Sweet Warrior," one of the finest records . . . Richard has recorded over
his unjustly obscure career."

Power, of London, England, says "He is one of the greatest songwriters
and guitarists. He is a legend."

Jo D of CT USA says "For all you RT fans out there, this is IT! Yes,
it's the one you've been waiting for, because FINALLY we hardcore RT fans
have a CD that we can recommend to or even buy as gifts for the
non-converted, and they'll actually GET what the fuss has been about.
This is hands down the most accessible RT disc in existence, chockful of
songs that would make anyone want to either dance or cry. As critics have
been saying, Sweet Warrior represents a return to the more hardrocking form
of the 80's and early 90's, but with better [leaner and cleaner]
production than those albums had and with bigger, brighter guitar. Also,
maybe it's just my ears, but on this CD I finally feel that RT's voice
itself has grown to fit the music so well that it's lost its tag of 'an
acquired taste.' On both rocking numbers and ballads, his voice sounds
as passionate and as adaptable as his ever-astonishing guitar."

R. Kyle of Knoxville, TN says "As you'd guess from the title, "Sweet Warrior"
is about war. Not just the expected militarization in Iraq, but localized
domestic strife as well.
"Dad's Going to Kill Me" is the cut that's going to receive all the attention
from this CD. Thompson rises above the glut of protest Iraqi war protest music
bringing a soldier's everyday experience in Baghdad to life.
"Guns are the Tongues" goes one step further. The character in the song,
"Little Joe" became a car bomber to get revenge for his lover's father and
brother--because "guns are the tongues, Little Joe/The only words we know..."
and, R Kyle concludes, it's "one of the best Richard Thompson CDs ever."

Brooks Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, says: "This album is simply stunning. As one who's
studied every release to which the great Richard Thompson has lent his name,
this reviewer bows in awe to this work."

So there you have it. There are few pleasures in life like a favorite artist producing one more masterpiece for you, so as I prepare to miss the Cropredy festival for only the third time in 22 years this month, my consolation is that the master is still showing the way.

I can't believe how much dust is on the discs, especially as I used an air-blower on them... should've wiped them clean. Oh well. :)

Keeping QE2 ship-shape

Diary Entry : Two months until QE2 is abandoned in Dubai. On board, you would not know it. Among the first photographs I took, during the sailaway in Southampton, were repairs to the “plugs” keeping the teak deck planks in place. And towards the end of the cruise, when we were already crossing the Atlantic in an easterly direction, the deck crew were out recaulking the deck planks.

Every day, the ship was being cleaned top to bottom. One morning, I ran into two young crew members, in animated chat, as they walked down D Stairway, each holding a wet cloth -- the first one cleaning the upper part of the banisters, the second the lower part, as they enjoyed their conversation.

Carpets were being hoovered all the time, the wires cleverly draped so that they could not possibly trip anyone up -- and just in case there was the slightest risk, moveable signs were put up, warning “Caution -- Trailing Wires”. No matter how late I dawdled off to bed, I could not cross the public rooms without finding a cleaning team still busy at work.

In various ports, the hull of the ship was painted, and we could check for ourselves that the colour used is a dark grey-blue, not black. Lifeboats were also painted and maintained -- which meant that we were at times not totally free to go and explore the upper decks!

Every sea day, the three ship whistles are tested, at noon precisely, just before the Captain’s announcement. And in case any passenger out on deck might be surprised by the blasts, there is a loudspeaker warning three minutes ahead of the whistle test.

Towards the end of our transatlantic return crossing, I stood for a while with another passenger, both of us gazing at the deck repairs. QE2 will be handed over in Dubai in immaculate condition... It it is so sad that this work, which the crew continue to lavish on her, is a total waste... But it is also wonderful that they are continuing to give the same extraordinary standard of care to the ship, even as her time is running out...

The film also deals with the emotional baggage of the central character that he carries with him and how his battle with the drug habit leads to an impending nervous breakdown as he comes t o find it difficult to deal with the reality of life as he slowly starts to release himself from his long drug induced stupor.

Synopsis

A young man (Yaante) lies dead still, strewn along the damp and shoddy mattress, lying in the corner of his apartment. Syringes are strewn about the floor of the room. The phone receiver paints the carpet with empty tones of relief now that it is off the hook, while half a moldy sandwich begins to be devoured by the local mouse. Yaante’s downward destructive spiral is in the climactic surges of its inertia. He must make a choice, will he continue to destroy his demons by annihilating the thing that perceives them or will he turn around and face the shocking past that continues to disturb with his soul.

Corrupt vs Psi-Stalker (The Western Owl)

The sky was grey and dim yet in the distance Shalon could make out plumes of smoke rising over the distant plains and could hear the thunder clap of explosions echoing through out the entirety of the region. It would be only a matter of weeks before the fight, a fight that was neither hers, nor her friends concern, was upon them. Rain lightly misted on her hairless head and sighing forlornly she looked around at her people and their encampment. Or rather was left of them. Shalon was a Psi-Stalker of a small tribe called the Pale Skulls. The Pale Skulls had lived nomadically for many generations in relative isolation in the open plains, their only significant contact being with their some times friends and sometimes rivals, the Gursallu, a tribe of Simvan.

Two years prior a strange sickly man came from the east sowing disease and ruin. He passed through heading north by north west leaving a trail of sadness and wasting death. Before any Psi-Stalker or Simvan could retaliate he was gone as were the majority of both their numbers. Psi-Stalkers and Simvan are both very proud and tough people, but their toughness is forged directly from the ugly brutalities of survival which call above all for pragmatism. With both camps equaling less then fifty adults both together they did what had to be done and joined forces.

Yet more trouble came from the east. A war between Wizards and Men in high tech armor was raging. Strangers passed through their lands causing trouble and frequently black vehicles screamed across the sky. A few men left to the east to hire their services as scouts or warriors and never returned. Including a man named Skylo, whom Shalon was to marry. Skylo was the only man her age that was not a direct blood relative. Her customs forbid her to marry or bare a child with her father, an uncle, a brother or a half brother. To her now the east was death and the east was getting closer. The east had taken her tribe, had taken her man and taken away the chance at having a child and rebuilding her tribe.

Nursing a bottle of moonshine a few feet away was her Simvan friend Derok. Derok was a bit small by the standards of his people and his peers bullied him for it. Sensing that the Psi-Stalker men often treated him poorly as well. Not that he wasn't as tough as of them, he was just the runt and had to deal with twice the grief. Derok, like Shalon, knew that their time was short and was repairing to leave. They knew that too many people lay to the south, that the north, while an option, was already territory claimed by other Simvan and Psi-Stalkers, and yes that the east was death. While Derok knew it wasn't quite like that. Unlike Shalon he had more contact with outsiders. Being the runt he was forced to handle all the trading and negotiating with outsiders. From that he knew there was even more wilderness beyond the ugly cities of Wizards and Men in black armor and that beyond their pathetic war was another cradle of land they could live a good life in. But who wanted to wade through a war? Very little was known of the west, but no war was west and if only be default the west was not death.

Shalon walked over and took Derok's bottle from him. "How many days before were equipped enough to leave?", she asked. He was about to reply when the sky exploded above them.
Huge plumes of fire shot forth from the mouth of a vast red-scaled flying reptilian creature that was being chased and shot at by men in flying black armor. Missiles rained downed on their encampment, leaving many of the few Simvan and Psi-Stakers who were remaining a steaming vapor of red mist and charred debris. The journey west began quicker then they thought.

Whatever name it once knew itself by was a long forgotten memory. It didn't need to call itself anything. It had very little sense of self or identity, it merely was and it merely DID. What it did was hunt and kill. But others had millions of names for It, some names that were screamed in terror and other names spoken in awe struck whispered tones. It was a dreaded presence periodically emerging through out the deep south and magic zone like a earth quake or flash flood that wipes out whole communities.

It was one of the Corrupt, an unholy barely structured cult of killers in the willing service of a demonic god the called the Liberator who in turn transformed each of them into beastie killing machines. Yet even among the Corrupt it was singular. Amongst the corrupt it was a creature of fear and envy because it was the most brutal of them all. Some of the Corrupt envied it, seeing it as the epitome of the liberation offered by their hidden master, but all of them certainly feared it. To the Corrupt it was called Hyrzaku, a word in the language of demons meaning freedom, and to the Corrupt It was seen as a demi-god or avatar with-in their grim numbers.

comparing logos - this one is pretty much straight across - so its not current - - though it can't be too old as it has a blurb for the wonka web page on the back - I love the ice cream cone character on the front -
might be able to get a couple more - but will be a big pain (I grabbed two - but - one disappeared) - anyways - I was set up at a flea market in the old town hall - a couple towns over - when I was loading up the leave - I took a quick walk through the basement - as it was open - they seem to be doing a lot of cleaning - anyways - there were a lot of empty tubs - some with odd and ends in them - mostly empty - I also got a super bubble and twizzler container - presumably of the same vintage - the flea market guys didnt seem to know if anybody would care - the lady doing the cleaning down cellar was a bit concerned..... "where did you get those" and I was like "if someone complains - you know how to reach me" - which obviously wouldnt be the case - being there were tons of empty plastic things all over down there - anyways - I grabbed another - had it by my stuff to go out to the car - and then it was gone - I dont know if the lady spotted it - or my friend thinks someone may have been cleaning up around the room (we had to leave pretty soon) so - it was there one second - gone the next - I think there are a couple more down there - I really tried to get a double for one of you guys though - I might be able to - but Ill have to strike some sort of deal

Remy in the dog bath tub

I don't know about most sheltie dogs, but Remy doesn't like baths! I wasn't sure how to give a dog a bath (I know it's not that hard) but I I took him to a local DIY doggy bath place (www.themudpuppydogwash.com) so I could try washing him in a special dog bath tub instead of our tub at home. It's raised and enclosed and has a leash thing to keep him still, so it worked really well. There's even a little ramp for him to walk up to get in to the tub. He still hated it, but Remy is no longer a dirty dog, he's officially a sparkling clean, conditioned, and well brushed handsome pup!

I say: Having photographed and reviewed over 70 beers for this set over the last year or so I think it's quite serendipitous that my big red cat walked in to the background as I photographed this perticular beer. It pours a nice red/amber, as you'd expect from the name, has medium carbonation and a receding toap head, a frosted glass type lacing is left on the glass as I drink. This beer tastes quite malty as its colour suggests it would, but has the added bonus of being hoppier than many red ales, the hops giving this some bitterness and a grassyness that creeps into the aftertaste. I didn't have high hopes for this beer when I purchaced it, thought it was probably just a novelty beer with a funny name, so I'm pleasantly surprised...and it's made just up the road in Sunshine West.
