I know that the assignment stated to take a photo of husband's wearing their wedding rings, but I wanted to relay a story with my photograph to explain why I was compelled to interpret the assignment in the way I did.

To most, the traditional wedding band and engagement ring signifies trust, commitment and a symbol of unity. My husband and I met one another while we were in college and did not have any disposable income, so therefore could not afford the typical gold bands. We instead, bought some cheap costume jewelry for our wedding ceremony, and wore them up until about ten years ago when we finally bought the bands we could then afford.

I never did receive an engagement ring either, but 20 years and six kids later, don't think I ever want one. I would much rather wear the dime store costume jewelry that we purchased so long ago.
