(6) 220809 Waratah The floral emblem of our state of New South Wales in Australia. Telopea speciosissima. ****See below from the Australian Capital Botanic Gardens Site:**** The name Telopea is derived from the Greek 'telopos', meaning 'seen from afar', and refers to the great distance from which the crimson flowers are discernible. The specific name speciosissima is the superlative of the Latin adjective 'speciosus', meaning 'beautiful' or 'handsome'. 'Waratah', the Aboriginal name for the species, was adopted by early settlers at Port Jackson. Telopea is an eastern Australian genus of four species. Two are confined to New South Wales, one to Tasmania and one extends from eastern Victoria into New South Wales. Telopea belongs to the family, Proteaceae, which is predominantly Australian and southern African in distribution and includes genera such as Grevillea, Banksia, Macadamia and Hakea. Protea cynaroides, King Protea, is the official floral emblem of the Republic of South Africa. The Waratah is a stout, erect shrub which may grow to 4 metres. The dark green leathery leaves, 13-25 cm in length, are arranged alternately and tend to be coarsely toothed. The flowers are grouped in rounded heads 7 to 10 cm in diameter surrounded by crimson bracts, about 5 to 7 cm long. It flowers from September to November and nectar-seeking birds act as pollinators. Large winged seeds are released when the brown leathery pods split along one side. Telopea speciosissima distribution mapThe species is fairly widespread on the central coast and adjoining mountains of New South Wales, occurring from the Gibraltar Range, north of Sydney, to Conjola in the south. It grows mainly in the shrub understorey in open forest developed on sandstone and adjoining volcanic formations, from sea level to above 1000 metres in the Blue Mountains. Soils within its range tend to be sandy and low in plant nutrients. Rainfall is moderately high. Waratah plants resist destruction by bushfires, a natural element of their habitat, by regenerating from the rootstock. Flowering recommences two years after a moderate fire. The Waratah is a spectacular garden subject in suitable soil and climate; it flowers prolifically and tends to be long-lived. Failures can usually be attributed to the effects of unsuitable soil conditions, aspect or climate. Seeds should be sown in a coarse sandy medium and soon after germination the seedlings should be transplanted into individual pots of similar soil. Fresh seeds germinate readily but the seedlings are prone to the fungal disease, 'damping off', which may be reduced by exposing the seedlings to full light, except for the shading necessary after transplanting. Propagation by cuttings is also possible. In the garden, plants should be grown in lightly shaded to sunny positions in deep, well drained soil. They need to be well watered until fully established but waterlogging must be avoided. The Waratah responds well to pruning which encourages flowering the following year, and overcomes the natural tendency of the shrub to assume a straggly shape. Some pruning is achieved by cutting flowers for decoration. It is a spectacular cut flower and lasts well in water. Flowers are usually crimson, but a rare creamy white form, Telopea 'Wirrimbirra White', has been cultivated successfully as a horticultural curiosity. Manipulated hybrids of T. speciosissima have been produced combining the grandeur of its flowers with the greater frost tolerance of other Telopea species. Hybrids between T. speciosissima and the Braidwood Waratah, T. mongaensis, have smaller flowers but are usually more floriferous with a compact shape and attractive foliage. One of these hybrids is the registered cultivar, Telopea 'Braidwood Brilliant', a spectacular garden plant developed at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The Waratah occurs naturally in at least ten national parks in the geological formation, know as the Sydney Basin. Brisbane Water, Dharug and Macquarie Pass National Parks are among the areas where this species is conserved. Waratahs are cultivated north of Sydney and in the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria. They are grown in Israel, New Zealand and Hawaii for the cut flower trade. It was introduced to England in 1789 but cannot survive English winters out of doors except in the south-west coastal regions, and it rarely flowers in glasshouses. It is also cultivated in California. waratah belt buckleWhen the Australian flora began to influence artists and craftsmen of European origin, the Waratah was adopted as a motif. The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney has a significant collection of arts and crafts featuring designs based on the Waratah. The diversity of media used in the collection include suede, stained glass, bone china and earthenware, glassware, copper, bronze, and wood. In 1915, R. T. Baker, a passionate advocate of the waratah (and other local flora) as a motif in art, craft and industry, wrote: 'The entire John Walter Scott Surgeon 4th KS. Infantry & Surgeon 10th KS. Infantry History of Allen and Woodson Counties, Kansas: embellished with portraits of well known people of these counties, with biographies of our representative citizens, cuts of public buildings and a map of each county / Edited and Compiled by L. Wallace Duncan and Chas. F. Scott. Iola Registers, Printers and Binders, Iola, Kan.: 1901 JOHN WALTER SCOTT was born near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, August 29, 1825. His father was Alexander McRay Scott, who was born at Alexandria, Virginia, August 19, 1800. His mother was Mary Dean, who was born in New Jersey or Pennsylvania in 1799. His paternal grandfather was John Scott, who'migrated from Belfast, Ireland, soon after the Revolution, landing first at St. Thomas, West Indies, but soon after going to Norfolk, Virginia, and thence to Alexandria. His paternal grandmother was Margaret Kenna, the daughter of an English sea captain. Nothing farther is known of the paternal line, except that "in the beginning" one "John," a ship joiner, migrated from Scotland to the ship yards at Belfast, Ireland, and was there called "John, the Scot," to differentiate him from other Johns, which name, of course, soon became John Scott, which it still remains. The John Scott who migrated to America was a shoemaker by trade. He was killed by lightning when about sixty years of age. His wife died in Indiana about 1853, of old age. Alexander Scott, the father of our subject, was a machinist and mechanic, although he always lived on a farm. He died at the age of sixty-four in Bloomington, Illinois, of cerebro spinal meningitis. His wife has previously passed away in Kentucky at the age of forty-four, of malarial fever. John W. Scott's maternal grandfather was Samuel Dean, a Revolutionary soldier in the New Jersey line. He afterwards served under "Mad Anthony" Wayne in the Indian wars and was severely wounded in the hip, making him lame the remainder of his life. He was probably of Danish descent and was a farmer. He died at the age of eighty-six from the effect of his wounds. Nothing more is known of the family on this side. John W. Scott was the oldest child of Alexander and Mary Dean Scott. He had three brothers, Samuel, William and Harmon, and five sisters, Martha, Mary, Jennie, Margaret and Hannah. Of this family only Margaret and Jennie now survive. When John W. Scott was three years of age his father bought a farm adjoining the Braddock Field property, near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and there nio.st of his childhood was spent. He worked on the farm in summer and in the winter attended such schools as the uncertain condition of the country afforded, in this way acquiring the rudiments of a fair English education. In 1840 he went with his father to Gallatin county, Kentucky, where he worked on a farm and in a saw mill for three or four years. The work proved too heavy for him and his health giving way he secured a position as private tutor in the family of Dr. William B. Chamberlain, in Warsaw, Kentucky. He taught the children of his employer the rudiments of English and received from him in return a smattering of Greek, Latin and mathematics. He afterward taught school in various portions of the county during the winters and read medicine with Dr. Chamberlain. In 1846-7 he took a course of medical lectures at the Starling Medical College, Columbus, Ohio, and in the spring of 1847 began the practice of his profession at Hopewell, Indiana. After practicing there for two years he took another course of lectures at the above college from which he graduated in the spring of 1849, returning at once to his practice in Indiana. December 13, 1849, he was married to Maria Protsman, the neice of his former preceptor, Dr. Chamberlain, and continued in the practice of medicine at Hopewell and Franklin, Indiana, until 1857 when he came to Kansas. He bought an original interest in the townsite of Olathe, which had just been located, and in connection with one Charles Osgood, built the first house erected on the townsite. In the fall he returned to Indiana and the following spring brought his family to Olathe. Owing to the unsettled condition of the country and the scenes of violence that were continually occurring in the town Olathe was not then a desirable place of residence, and so in June of 1858 Dr. Scott removed with his family to Allen county and took up a claim near Carlyle where he lived for the next sixteen years. ill! the fall of 1859 he was elected to the Territorial legislature whicli met at Lecompton and afterwards adjourned to Lawrence,—the first Free State legislature. He was re-elected in 1860 and was chosen Speaker of the House, In 1861 he was elected a member of the first State legislature, and in the absence of the Speaker presided during most of the session. During this session P'ort Sunipter was fired upon, and at its close most of its members entered the Union army. Profiles of other successful entrepreneurs are included. Ready to turn your herb-gardening hobby into a business? Sandie Shores details the fundamentals of commercial herb growing in a thorough, well-organized reference. Written from the vantage of the author's 14 years of experience in the business, the information is practical and practicable. Profiles and anecdotes from other growers around the country are interspersed throughout the book. The section on business basics starts with a thoughtful discourse on personal objectives and market research and continues with site selection and a thorough list of potential customers, from restaurants to distributors. The section on greenhouses for year-round growing includes practical discussion on materials and construction, interior layout, and systems design, so there's no need to purchase a separate greenhouse reference. Further discussion of growing methods focuses on sustainability, and pest-management suggestions include preventative awareness of life cycle and preferred environments. Handling and harvesting tips, uses, and specialized packaging advice are provided for 14 different herbs, inclusive of the wide selection found in the majority of markets today. Lesser-known herbs are touched on, as are edible flowers. A list of resources and support publications concludes the book. The author takes the mystery out of this business, filling a near vacuum with this reference, but at the same time presents the potential hazards and attention required. One caveat: the black-and-white photos and sketches are generally useful, but one wishes for color pictures of the herbs themselves, given that part of the appeal of fresh herbs is the vibrant color and texture that promise romance to the nose and taste buds. --Molly McElroy See also: boston florist free delivery tropical flower centerpiece bridal bouquets with tulips boys before flowers korean wallpaper pictures of valentine flowers sending flowers to israel local wedding florists floral wedding design |

Can be hanging or placed in a container. flower containers The "Lilliput" mix created another Zinnia sensation when it was introduced. The semi-dwarfed plants (only 18 to 24" tall) are famous for forming bushy 12" wide growth with lots of flowers, and the pom pom blooms are in clear solid colors. The sizzling, colorful effect in the garden is stunning, making these perfect for edging or colorful patches anywhere you want bright color. Just plant the seeds, and remember to cut off the fading flowers. Easy! Easy! Why everybody loves Zinnias: Probably no plant can give you more color for less work. It's because the zinnia is one of the easiest plants to grow from seed (any child can do it, and many do!), they'll give you every color but blue, and they bloom all season up until frost. Can you think of another flower that does all that? How to grow them: Good full sun is really all that's required, although some of the newer hybrids will even bloom in partial shade. As for water, they don't need much, since they're from hot desert-like habitats. Soil? Almost any soil will do, but they prefer fast-draining gritty soil, if you have that available. Zinnia seeds are perfect for starting indoors to have bloom early. But be sure you wait until every frost is gone, and the soil has warmed up a bit before setting them out. They're super-sensitive to frost--after all, these plants are from frost-free regions, and don't like cold soil. If you'd rather, you can just wait until spring arrives, and sow them outside. They're very undemanding. FLOWER GARLAND FOR INDIAN WEDDING : FLOWER GARLAND FOR
Flower Garland For Indian Wedding
Dupatta – part of Great Indian Culture !! © Capt Suresh Sharma. All Rights Reserved Dupatta, also known as `chunni’ (and various other local names in different areas of India) is basically a head-scarf for South Asian women. It’s longer in size than other head scarfs for women. It has many variations in terms of its size (personal choice), material used (cotton, georgette, silk, chiffon, and more), style of embroidery, colours etc. Quality for the material depends in the occasion (on marriage it’s expensive) and the money one may spend while buying. The colour also has quite a bit of significance sometimes; one may wear any colour in routine life, but on some occasions there are certain colours as per the regional culture e.g. to attend a funeral its white with most, red or saffron for marriage, yellow is worn by majority of Sikh women for religious occasions, etc. In routine life, it directly depends on the type of the suit woman is wearing. But certainly worn with a suit. A suit (shirt and pyjamas for women) can be with `salwar’ or `chooreedaar’ (like a tight pyjama on the lower side and having multiple folds/ pleats), Its been a symbol of modesty for the South Asian women for long now. When not covering head in a casual manner for convenience, then its both sides are over the shoulders and middle part is hanging like a garland. I remember, about 25 years ago, it was considered bad manners, rather almost like a taboo, if the head was not covered of a woman walking in the streets or when elder men folk are at home. It was sort of showing disrespect to elders and being arrogant. Over a period of time, `duppatta’ has also changed and the style of wearing has changed. Few years ago, dupatta lost its charm amongst the so called `modern women’ and move around without a `dupatta’. Nowadays, any woman wearing `duppatta’ in urban areas, is considered as being from medieval age, by majority. But trust me, heart in heart everyone knows that the beauty of an Asian woman emerges like a `fully bloomed flower’ and men go `fidda’ (head over heals) if they see a woman whose head is draped with `dupatta’. I believe, its part of evolution and fashion also has its own stages and variations while its cycle is moving. It has come back partly and gone. But the fact remains that all Indian women cover their head with embroidery on `sarree palloo’ (one end of the long saree) or well done embroidery on `dupatta of the specially designed wedding suit. It is also used for making a veil by women, on the spur of the moment, even today in rural India. This came into practice, basically, for one purpose only – hide the beauty from other men folks around and from strangers. There were many instances where men created big time historical troubles, after they had seen the beauty of some women. So, the best way was to hide the beauty and avoid trouble !!! Sultan of Delhi, Alau Din Khilji had heard about the beauty of Queen Padmini of Chittaur. He planned a special official visit for himself to the kingdom and he insisted to see Padmini himself, which was declined on pretext that it was grossly against the culture and traditions of Rajputs. He insisted and modified his request, asking to see her reflection in water. A big trouble ensued after this viewing of her beauty in water and he murmured to himself, if she is so beautiful in reflection, she must be greatly beautiful in real and he got passionate with his desire to get her. And then he attacked Chiatour, leading his huge army. He laid siege to the famous Chittour Fort. Chittorgarh was captured in 1303 by Ala ud din Khilji. But Queen Padmini preferred death to dishonour, and committed Jauhar (act of self immolation by leaping into a fire) along with all the other ladies of the fort. And all the men folk left the fort in saffron dress to fight the enemy unto death. I do not blame the modern women for leaving `dupatta’ behind in their wardrobes, with the passage of time. The modern life is of convenience and not like the past which was governed by strong traditions and rituals. Ask those women who have the vision to look for charms of good life beyond the barriers of materialism, they all say only onething “old culture has the real essence of happy life”. We all yearn for the good old culture. The modern materialistic life has distanced us from ourselves. MODEL: Sukhmani our daughter. 5 years old. WISHING YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY FATHER'S DAY !!! FOUND! The Lost Owners Manual for Growing African Hair I tried to explain to a white associate of mine the difficulties we black women experience with our hair. It took me no less than an hour to explain just the difficulties we endure trying to get our hair to conform and grow. I was not discussing solutions with him; I just wanted him to grasp the basics. The information appeared to slip into his incomprehensible, non-issue data bank. He walked away dazed and still could not understand black hair concepts. Enough about getting others to understand. It won't happen. Let us not forget what is never far from our thoughts: a search for THE product that will grow our hair! If you cannot relate to the life I have just described, you are in the wrong place. Whether your hair is relaxed or natural, the information is the same. You won't be asked to remove your relaxer. It is my fault, but most people think this book is for relaxed hair, and I apologize for that. It's just that women with relaxers perpetrate the worst hair decisions and blame it on the chemicals. Aside from telling you to read and follow the directions on the relaxer container, everything else I insist you follow is for any and all hair. Black Women Rejoice is finally the answer to the question "How do you grow a black woman's hair?" It's the owner's manual they forgot to issue when you started doing your own hair. It is a manual for black people only. If you want to call this manual a product, then it's the last product you will need to grow healthy hair. I went on a photo field trip the other day to my favorite beauty-supply store and found something very disturbing; shocking would be more like it, so heinous that I had to contact a lawyer to find out how to protect myself before I revealed this updated manual to you. Well, imagine my surprise when I was photographing the ingredients section of our favorite hair products, ninety percent of which started out with petroleum or mineral oil! How could this be? Am I to understand that just because it is sitting on the shelf in a black beauty-supply store (I hate using the race card) that somehow it's OK to remake the product using the cheapest ingredients, and then sell to my sisters for the same price everyone else pays for the quality version? They might as well send me a thank-you letter for telling black women about their product. I am steering women away from scamming, profit-grabbing products. Read more to find many such discoveries. (13) Marble stele (grave marker) of a youth and a little girl ca. 530 B.C. Archaic -The use of relief or painted slabs as grave markers was not peculiar to Archaic and Classical Greece, but their manner of decoration was novel. Comparable objects are not found in the East or in Egypt, but the practice was an ancient one in Greece- see the grave stele from the Grave Circles at Mycenae. Most surviving grave stele come from Athens, and it seems likely that kouroi served as grave monuments before such figure-decorated stele appeared. Originally these tall, rectangular stele were topped by cavetto capitals, which were derived from Egyptian architecture. Above 550 BC, this is replaced by a double volute scroll, which can be seen on this grave monument. On top of these capitals often sat the statue of a sphinx, which served as a guardian of the dead in the Greek world. The most common motif on these grave stele is the depiction of a standing nude youth- a kouros- who may be holding attributes such as weapons or athletic equipment. Many of the surviving Archaic grave stele (including this piece) were preserved by the fact that they were used as building material in the Themistoclean wall that was hurriedly thrown up after the departure of the Persians in 480 BC from Athens. Since the cemeteries were on the exterior of the city walls, the grave monuments (most of which were probably desecrated by the Persians) made for easily accessible building material. -Ca. 530 BC-Inscribed on the base: To dear Me..., on his death, his father with his dear mother set [me] up as a monument.-13 feet high-This grave monument is the most complete example of its type to have survived from the Archaic period-Youth and little girl shown together in relief. The young girl, not mentioned in the inscription, is probably his little sister. Perhaps they died at the same time- disease? -Suspended from the youth's wrist is an aryballos, which characterizes him as an athlete- it would have carried the oil used as a cleanser after exercise. In his left hand he holds a pomegranate, a symbol of both fecundity and death, perhaps indicating that he reached puberty before his decease. The girl holds a flower. -This is an exceptionally lavish monument that must have been built by one of the wealthiest families in Athens. Some scholars want to read the name in the inscription as that of Megakles, a name associated with the powerful clan of the Alkmeonidai, who opposed the tyrant Peisistratos. The tombs of the aristocratic families were sometimes desecrated and destroyed as a result of that conflict and this stele may well have been among those pillaged. -Note the more naturalistic rendering of the youth's musculature and ear as well as the shorter hairstyle with chin-length curly locks held back in place by a hair fillet. However, some very Archaic elements remain- the patterning of the hair, the archaic smile, the rendering of the almond shaped eyes, etc. Akrotiri-Xeste 3-Room 3a-East Wall-Saffron Gatherers -In a rocky mountainous landscape scattered with clusters of crocus plants, two female figures dressed in Minoan-style costumes and jewelry collect saffron stamens, which on the opposite wall are offered to an enthroned goddess, believed to the the Great Mother Goddess, who is perhaps unseen by her mortal devotees, yet very present to receive the fruit of their labors. -Figure on left shown en face, her head turned towards her companion on whom she gazes with rather serious air. Rich black hair held by blue band on her forehead. Hair is short and curly, excepting two long ringlets down her back and a smaller forelock. Picks flowers with fingertips of right hand and holds basket in her left hand. Bodice is open at the front, but cannot be seen from the angle she is painted. -Second figure is much younger in appearance. Her head is almost completely shorn. Shown in profile, she also tries to pick crocus blossoms with her two hands while gazing at her companion opposite her with a lively and impatient expression, as if anxious for reassurance that she is performing the task correctly. -Note the details of the women's finery, especially their garments, which they themselves would have made. These are garments that are meant to catch the eye with their embroidery and detail- the artist's depiction of this finery is a recognition of feminine industry and creativity. -Gathering saffron from the crocus flowers has become a major event- partly executed in the realm of reality and partially that of fantasy. -This fresco is found on a building in the trading outpost at Akrotiri on Thera in a building called Xeste 3, which a was large edifice, the western half of which was at least three storeys high. It seems to have been a building in which public and ritual activity took place. -An interesting side note- saffron and women have interesting interconnections. Saffron was used in antiquity to treat menstrual conditoins and its golden yellow color is linked to rituals to prepare young girls for adulthood and for celebrating their wedding day when they reached puberty. -These figures are rendered with a freedom of movement and a variety of hairstyle, raiment and jewelry which bespeak of an artist of statue here at work. flower girl hairstyles for short hair Rubie's black super model wig let's you be whoever you want to be all year long, remove from packaging and style is if it were your own hair, do not use with intense heat like curling irons and hot blowdryers, for more than 60 years rubie's has been thrilled to bring their experience, innovation and fun to year around costuming, a family-owned company based in new york, they continue to thrive and have grown to be the largest in the industry in the world, every holiday, every celebration, every time you think fun, think about dressing up, grabbing a festive accessory, and putting on your fun rubie's hat, we'll be celebrating with you See also: strapless floral print dress pictures of boys before flowers money plant flowers bridal bouquets iced flower rochester flower delivery altar flowers for wedding how to make a silk bridal bouquet online flowers canada |

(9) Flowers 04/092010 - There are days like today where I struggle a bit, I think we all have those days. I was having a happy day but the day was filled with happy tears over missing friends & family who are too far away for me to hug whenever I wanted. I'd received several lovely messages from friends that warmed my heart. The tears had stopped and my smile was there. Then I had a surprise dropped off at work. Flowers (the true picture of spring) delivered with a card that reads "Just because some days a little sun shine through the window just isn't enough". Here the flowers sit, through the very window that sun shines through (when it can) to brighten my day. The card is not signed and while I believe I know who these are from I do not know for sure. I am truly touched that someone took the time to deliver these flowers to me. To think of me when I was having a rough day. To take the time to try to brighten my day (and it worked and my office smells lovely). To this person, who hasn't had a very easy time herself over the last year, all I can say is: thank you for your kindness and for brightening my day. It is people like you who restore my faith that humanity is good by nature. Flowers! I just got a bouquet with my favorite flowers delivered! The card says 'For Samantha. I am sorry.' I assume they're from a friend who stood me up last week. They make me happy! It's sweet! Inviting her over soon for a talk =) See also: flower seeds uk woodland flower shop flowers winery sonoma coast beautiful fake flowers how to make your own bouquet daisy flower hair clips artificial flowers outdoors create a bouquet garnet flower ring thanksgiving cookie bouquet |

LARGE DECORATIVE FLOWER POTS - FLOWER POTS
Large Decorative Flower Pots
A Large Late Victorian Villa with Queen Anne Influences - Essendon Standing proudly behind its white picket fence, this Victorian villa is situated in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Essendon. Built just before the turn of the Twentieth Century, this is a Victorian style villa with residential Queen Anne influences. The middle-class owners of this villa were determined to appear as though they were able to afford the respectability of brick even if the reality of their situation was different, as this single storey residence is block fronted (meaning it is built of wood, but the wood is cut so as to mimic brick). Built of weatherboard this villa features a return verandah and has a corrugated iron roof; all common features in Victorian architecture. The layout is also typical of the Victorian period. Yet the Queen Anne style is starting to appear by way of the half timbered gable above the bay window, the undulating stylised Art Nouveau fretwork around the eaves and along the verandah, and the decorative chimney pots. Queen Anne was mostly a residential style inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement in England, but also encompassed some of the more stylised elements of Art Nouveau, which gave it an more decorative look. Essendon was etablished in the 1860s and became an area of affluence and therefore only had middle-class, upper middle-class and some very wealthy citizens. A large villa like this built in one of the finer pockets of the suburb suggests that it was built for an aspiring middle-class family. This villa would have required one of two live-in maids to help its mistress keep maintained. "Brecon" a Large Queen Anne Villa - Essendon "Brecon" is a stylish cream Queen Anne style villa of grand proportions situated in a quiet, tree lined street in the Melbourne suburb of Essendon. Queen Anne style was mostly a residential style inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement in England, but also encompassed some of the more stylised elements of Art Nouveau, which gave it an more decorative look. Built just after Federation (1901), the choice of a plain rough cast stuccoed rendering on the walls is very Arts and Crafts inspired, as is the shingling above the rounded bay windows. The arched porch canopy and the dado of red and brown bricks are also very Arts and Crafts inspired. Yet the house features two sets of windows, both of which have Art Nouveau inspired stained glass panes of garlands and flowers, and the tiles around the arched porch are also very Art Nouveau in appearance. Queen Anne style was most popular around the time of Federation. With complex roofline structures and undulating facades, many Queen Anne houses fell out of fashion at the beginning of the modern era, and were demolished. Essendon was etablished in the 1860s and became an area of affluence and therefore only had middle-class, upper middle-class and some very wealthy citizens. A large villa like this built in one of the finer pockets of the suburb suggests that it was built for an aspiring upper middle-class family of some means. This villa would have required a small retinue of servants to maintain. Picnic at Dragon Mountain Barbecued squid with dipping sauce. Ryongak, North Korea Many moons ago there was a war between the mountain god and the sea god at Ryongak in North Korea. The mountain god wanted to win the battle so he sent for a dragon to help him fight – the dragon arrived, but was so taken with the scenery that he forgot all about the war and settled here forever. Now it’s a public picnic site with enormous concrete dragons draping themselves over the eating areas, the road and down to the little pond. Cute. When we arrived, there was uniformed staff ready with our picnic stuff: a barbecue on the table, mutton kebabs and accompaniments. Rice wine and beer – what more could any tourist want? The whole place was rather surreal, with terraced picnic areas spread in the shade of enormous trees. Concrete tables and chairs fashioned to represent flowers and animals, and the ever-present dragons…… Picnic at Dragon Mountain-15 Many moons ago there was a war between the mountain god and the sea god at Ryongak in North Korea. WILDFLOWERS FLORIST GIFTS. FLORIST GIFTS
Wildflowers Florist Gifts
Wildflowers No Description Available. Genre: Popular Music Media Format: Compact Disk Rating: Release Date: 1-NOV-1994 As you listen to Wildflowers, Tom Petty's first new album in three years and his first ever for Warner Bros., you may be struck by a certain quality, new for Petty but nonetheless familiar. The predominance of the twangy rhythm guitar; the high-pitched, nasal singing; the irresistibly catchy pop hooks; and the melancholy lyrics straining for a spiritual significance just beyond their grasp--all these elements make Petty sound as if he were a Beatle imitating Bob Dylan. Then you may realize that Wildflowers resembles nothing so much as a George Harrison solo album. That's not such a bad thing; Harrison (Petty's old bandmate in the Traveling Wilburys) has a knack for giving moody spiritualism a pop tunefulness. It's just that Harrison on his own is a second-tier rock & roll figure whose best work is long behind him, and that's pretty much the case with Petty as well. Only with appropriately reduced expectations can one enjoy Wildflowers for what it is. --Geoffrey Himes (8) Late summer gift About 100[1] perennial species make up the genus Solidago, most being found in the meadows and pastures, along roads, ditches and waste areas in North America. There are a handful of species from each of Mexico, South America, and Eurasia.[1] Some American species have also been introduced into Europe some 250 years ago. Many species are difficult to distinguish. Probably due to their bright, golden yellow flower heads blooming in late summer, the goldenrod is often unfairly blamed for causing hay fever in humans. The pollen causing these allergy problems is mainly produced by Ragweed (Ambrosia sp.), blooming at the same time as the goldenrod, but is wind-pollinated. Goldenrod pollen is too heavy and sticky to be blown far from the flowers, and is thus mainly pollinated by insects.[citation needed] Frequent handling of goldenrod and other flowers, however, can cause allergic reactions, leading some florists to change occupation.[2] Goldenrods are easily recognized by their golden inflorescence with hundreds of small capitula, but some are spike-like and other have auxiliary racemes. They have slender stems, usually hairless but S. canadensis shows hairs on the upper stem. They can grow to a length between 60 cm and 1.5 m. Their alternate leaves are linear to lanceolate. Their margins are usually finely to sharply serrated. Propagation is by wind-disseminated seed or by underground rhizomes. They form patches that are actually vegetative clones of a single plant..... wikipedia the flowers he picked for you The flowers your son picks for you - ripped off at the bloom, held in sweaty palms for a time then presented. You take them, those flowers, slightly crushed with little chance of lasting long. You find a dish he approves of: “The grey one? or the yellow one? OK. The grey one.” You fill the dish with water. Float the flowers in it as they have no stems to stand on. This tattered gift, so much nicer than hot-housed and cellophane-wrapped florist flowers. You say thanks, and you mean it.
