Construction uses single-colored yarn

utorak , 25.06.2019.

Weaving has been a highly developed art for a thousand years. Modern woven carpet is produced on looms that have advanced considerably over those prior centuries, but the basics have remained.

Weaving threads over one another creates a strong surface. Treating them with modern chemicals makes them stain-resistant to spills, dirt and other common problems. Using different colored threads and weaving them into different patterns creates designs that can appeal to a wide variety of tastes.

Tufted

Tufted carpets are produced, as the name suggests, by a tufting machine. In this technique, a backing cloth provides a strong base into which Twisting Yarn is stitched, then cut. The result is a 'tuft' of carpet, just as you might think of a tuft of hair sticking up.

This method of carpet construction uses single-colored yarn, which is then dyed into colors and printed with patterns of varying types. The result can be a cut pile that is attractive and inexpensive, thanks to the efficient use of materials.

Flatweave

A flatweave is created by alternating warp and weft threads. Weft are the threads running crosswise or horizontally, warp are those running lengthwise or vertically. The result is a very durable surface that can be highly distinctive.

Threads of varying color, thickness and material can be used in some advanced applications to produce colorful, individual designs. Often used in oriental rugmaking, flatweaves offer beauty and long-life.

Hooked Rug

Not every rug or carpet design needs to be quite so elaborate, however, to be durable and beautiful. Hooked rug construction is a relatively simple technique similar to crocheting. Strips of material are pulled through a mesh.

Given the variety of colors and designs possible in the basic strips, the resulting rug can be highly individual and attractive. Generally used for lower traffic areas, they make for outstanding bathroom or office applications.

Pile

Pile rugs became very common in the 1970s and they continue to be popular today. Often of a uniform color, it's possible to produce a cut and loop or knotted pile with a very thick, rich surface. Ultra-comfortable, they can also last a very long time while being modest cost.

One type called a Frieze is suitable for high traffic areas. Its short fibers of durable material tend to curl, making for a strong, crush-resistant surface. Another variety consists of fibers twisted together that are heat treated. The result is a very soft texture that stands up well.

When looking for a carpet, whether for the living room or office or just to cover the entrance, look into several options. Some materials and designs work better in one application than another. Choose well and you'll have beautiful, long-lasting flooring that meets your budget goals.

The strips serve the same function as yarn

What about rugs? Rugs may seem useless and valueless but taking a closer look and using one's aesthetic sense would make a big difference. Cast or scatter rugs look good on floors or carpeting. They pick up the colors of curtains or furniture and tie the room together. They save wear on tear on carpets and floors when placed on high traffic areas. Making rugs can be a fun and rewarding craft or a highly skilled art.

Braided rugs are often referred to as Rag rugs as they are typically made from strips of fabric prepared as in rag rugs. They add a homey feel to any house and can add to the existing decor by using a color scheme that fits each room. Sew three strips together at the top and begin braiding. You can assemble your braids into a round, square or rectangular rug by sewing or tacking the braids together as you go. Be sure to use a heavy durable thread; avoid cotton as it deteriorates over time; choose nylon or synthetic. As you make your braids, wind them around a roll to keep them flat and as you assemble them, check as you go to make sure you are sewing your braids together flat. Double braiding refers to braiding together three strips, then braiding together three of the finished braids.

Rag rugs are a great way to recycle old clothes, sheets or other fabric. Strips of cloth are cut in widths from 1/4 to 2 inches, depending on kind of rug and sturdiness desired. It isn't necessary to overcast the edges of the fabric. The slight raveling is part of the look of a rag rug. Wider strips can be used with raw edges turned under so no raw edges will show on right side of rug. To join strips, you can tie and hide the tie at the back or the rug, or sew the two edges together (cut diagonally and the join will be less lumpy). Each strip of cloth is rolled into a ball. The strips serve the same function as yarn; you can crochet a round, square or rectangular rug. You can also use fabric cut into small strips and hook your rug.

Crocheted rugs are made from strips of fabric or Air Textured Yarn crocheted into shape using a single crochet stitch worked over a beginning chain stitch. You may want to recycle some old clothing into rag rugs too or you may want to purchase yards of fabric especially to crochet rag rugs from. Check the bargain bins at your local fabric shop; you may find something you'd just love to crochet a rug from. One common problem with crocheted rugs from fabric is getting them to lay flat, especially with round rugs. Since all fabric is different, you must determine yourself when to increase stitches as you crochet around. As long as you already know how to do single crochet stitches, the main knowledge you need for rag crochet is in knowing how to prepare the fabric strips to crochet with.

Crocheted items that are made today are made with many completely different types of acrylic, cotton or wool yarns. Today there are yarns that you can buy that are even made especially for babies, these paitular yarns are made of 100 percent cotton .Your craft store will carry ample amounts of crochet yarn, and a large varieties as well. The store has such a variety that you can complete almost any look you want, from the casual look to elegant. look as well.

When using different types of yarns you will have different care instructions. If you know then exactly what type of yarn an item is made of, you can easily find the proper care techniques on line. When you purchase a new pattern, and if you look close the pattern makers will also provide you with care instructions when you buy a pattern that they made.

When you have made, or you have been given some hand crocheted items, in order for them to retain their original look then you will have to spend some time maintaining them .You will have to keep them in good shape, because with crocheted items a lot of joy and love goes into items that you handmade yourself.

When the crocheted article need to be washed then you can gently hand washed in cold water, using a detergent mild like detergent (woolite). Do not use any type of bleach! Rinse item in cool water with your hands until water is clear, then if you would like , rinse again in water with a liquid fabric softener. This is very important never twist or try to wring the item out, this will tend to twist it out of shape.

The best way as well as the safest way to remove water is to put the item down on a towel and roll it up in the towel carefully. Then unroll the towel and let it back out and then lay it flat to dry on another dry towel, reshaping the item very gently to remove unwanted wrinkles. Do not use a hand dryer on handcrafted items . The heat from the dryer will shrink the article for sure.

Let the article air dry at room temperature. After it has become completely dry. Then you can try and shake it gently again to soften up the fibers. Do not iron an item unless you are sure of the type of yarn was used and you know for sure that it will withstand an iron. Store the crocheted item on a shelf or in a drawer.

Do not use an type of hanger! . This will deffentilly cause the item to stretch or develop "hanger" marks.Using these directions is a good guidelines to use, for all your crocheted items when you are unsure of their fiber content.!

Weight is designated by the name of the yarn

utorak , 18.06.2019.

Florida, FL (prHWY.com) March 25, 2013 - USA, March 25, 2013 - One of the major challenges in online purchasing is the lack of a 'real' experience with your product. With some items this doesn't matter at all, but when you need a precise feel for texture, colour or sizing, as you do with wool, online purchasing becomes tricky. However, with a basic understanding of yarn types, weights and fibres, you'll be able to confidently buy wool online at much better prices than you'll find in physical wool shops! Here's what you need to know to avoid disappointment.
Yarn weights are not often listed in a simple numbered system. That would be far too boring! Usually
Twisting Yarn weight is designated by the name of the yarn, and it is graduated as follows:

Is a very heavy weight yarn worked on large or extra large needles. When you buy 'wool' to knit with, it won't always be spun from a sheep's coat! This is the most common type of 'wool' used in projects nowadays. It is an artificial fibre which is predictable, inexpensive, available in a huge variety of textures and weights including plenty of novelty yarns.

This natural fibre can be harvested without killing the plant and has a renewal time of only a few months. Currently it is a specialty fibre so is a little more expensive than acrylic, but as the industry matures it should actually become a cheaper wool to buy.

Cotton fibre yarns are versatile and inexpensive, but not always predictable to work with. Cotton-knit garments tend to stretch irregularly with time. Buying wool from an actual sheep doesn't mean that you'll have an itchy, hot, shrink-prone project at the end! Choose merino or alpaca wool for softer textures.

Knitting Wool - Wool usually comes from sheep, but it can also come from rabbits, goats and llamas. There are many different types of wool, but they all share certain characteristics. The most important characteristic is that it easily absorbs moisture. It can absorb up to 30 percent of its weight without feeling wet, plus the moisture content in the wool helps to prevent a build-up of static electricity. Wool will keep you warmer than other fibres. Wool is also very elastic and can easily be stretched when wet; yet it is still able to return to its normal shape once it is dry.

Finest and softest of all wool that comes from sheep. It is easy to dye and comes in a wide range of colours, from pastels to bright shades to multi-colour strands. When washing clothing made from wool, use net bags. Place the clothing item in the net bag, then place it in the washer in the delicate cycle. When the wash is done, hang or lay flat to dry. This works even for clothes that say to hand wash only.
