59/365 - Brooke and Jake Wow! Yesterday's group photo shoot was Ah-MAZING! I went there with my little EOS 1000D, and a trigger-happy attitude. I came back with 150 amazing pictures to edit, 2 dozen new (wonderful) friends, a completely different understanding of my camera and studio lighting, and an even deeper passion for shutter-bugging. :P This is one of my favorite shots out of the 150 I shot. (I even liked the odd blue at the bottom, but that showed up in PP) I had a lot of seasoned photographers help me get a much better understanding of how to set up and use thousands and thousands of dollars worth of lighting, and they helped me learn how to work Manual even better. (I've been using Program AE on my camera most often. But I believe I'll be sticking with Manual for most of my 365 shots from now on. I was almost too scared to mess with a lot of my manual settings, until now.) My models were really nice. After a bit of talking with them, I understood their personalities much better and was able to work with them easier. In this shot, I had Brooke jump on Jake's back, and when she was giving me her normal "model smile" I just asked Jake to tickle her. :P They both started laughing, and their smiles turned out MUCH more natural. Thanks all for your encouragement! Alexandra Portrait Triptych My Triptych Lecture Making quality triptychs is tough. The tools that make photography easier in general may actually be making it harder to produce good photographs. Triptychs (and diptychs) especially! They should not be a set of shots that vary on a theme, so I apologize for calling this a triptych. (I am taking a shotgun approach to using Flickr in that I want lots of feedback so I spread my work widely across Flickr's groups.) To make a great trip- or diptych you have to be able to look at a bunch of pictures next to one another. This is possible to do on a computer, but doing it with physical prints simply requires moving your arm, grabbing a print, and placing it next to another. On a computer the GUI requires you to grab the mouse, open a photo editing program, open a photo, open another photo, make the mouse grab the photo, etc., etc... Despite not being a true triptych, I do think these three crops are all great captures of the essence of my lovely model's loveliness. They were taken within seconds of one another yet are completely unique. Anyway. Hope you all like them and regardless of that I hope you leave a comment. THANKS!!!!!!
