8th Gold in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics to Canadian Womens Ice Hockey Team
The gold to Canada, 2-0, on goals by Marie-Phillip Poulin. On Canadian home ice. Over its arch rivals from the U.S. And young Shannon Szabados, named goalie of the tournament, was the difference.
She made 29 saves in the game, some of them outright robberies of U.S. shots. Her glove was the fasting thing on ice, making several key saves including one on USA defender Caitlin Cahow on a two-man advantage for the Americans in the first period and another on sniper Monique Lamoureux in the third. Her spinning glove save on a high power play shot near the end of the second was the highlight of the game and a critical stop.

The Brad Doshan story - Part Three (start)
I WAS A TEENAGE RINK RAT
I started playing ice hockey when I was about five years old growing up in Minneapolis , Minnesota, USA, where there are 10,000 lakes and it gets rather cold in the wintertime.
So you either play ice hockey or ski or sit inside a watch TV.
Fortunately I had an older brother who was a very good athlete and what he did essentially was to make me skate for two years before he let me pick up a hockey stick.
Therefore, I was pretty prolific skater at a young age and the rest of the aspects of the game came rather easily because of this grounding.
It was just a matter of getting out and playing throghout the years and developing skills.
I took to the game just like I did to American football and a couple of other sports, but I felt I wanted to make hockey my priority.
I worked very hard and I was very determined and fortunately I had the opportunity to play with a national championship team at collegiate level at the University of Minnesota and went to play with the Minnesota North Srars Farm Club for a few months in the minor leagues in Oklahoma city.
IS MINNESOTA MAD ABOUT ICE HOCKEY?
Minnesota is very much about ice hockey.
It is located in the centre of the USA and on the border with Canada and is actually the number one American hockey state.
It's a big hockey state and mirrors Canada in developing its youth talent.
Because of the demographics you have got thousands of lakes and between 1,500 and 2,000 rinks in the state itself, probably almost 500 rinks in the Minneapolis - St Pauls area.
So in other words every public park has a hockey rink, so the facilities are there.
Getting on ice is just as easy as it is to go over the park in this country and kick around a football.
Our public parks generally speaking have either artificial or natural ice depending on the wealth of the community.
The amateur hockey association was conceived around 25 years ago with the aim of developing kids in all areas of the country - now yo find it is very strong in the East, Boston, New York, Up State Vermon and every gones as far as Los Angeles - Wayne Gretsky;s Kings - and Southern California and Florida now have professional teams.
WHAT DID YOUNG BRAD GET UP TO AT THE RINK?
When I was growing up I would get home from school at 2pm and it was straight down to the rink.
I was basically what you would call a rink rat.
I would spend two to three hours till dinner time at the rink, walk the two blocks to my home, eat and right back to the rink till 10pm.
It was eat, sleep, study, plaY . . .
hockey cookies
I made a few sets of these as a donation to a fund raising event for my cousin's kid's hockey team.

Hockey Fan Sign
My husband and son found themselves on the Jumbotron at a recent hockey game. After that, the plan was to see if they could have a "camera-catching" sign when the Edmonton Oilers came to town. So this was the happy result! Go Flames! The presence of the letters "CBC" is to promote the broadcaster. The broadcaster gets a crowd shot AND some promotion. So fans put those letters in to make the signs more attractive. Edmonton has the sign "City of Champions" at the edge of town, so that's why the "City of Chump-ions" reference.
I'm actually from Edmonton, and I enjoyed many seasons of cheering for the Oilers. But family trumps hockey loyalty! So here it is. It would have worked better if the flames were in adhesive vinyl instead of glued-on foam from the dollar store. The large amount of Vynabond glue I used caused the tarp to warp.
Cut out using a Cricut Expressions, with Sure Cuts A Lot software, which is now vintage due to the lawsuit. (If I ever get another vinyl cutter I'm going to make sure I get one where I can design and print my own designs.)

Fantasy Sports Prophet is a completely Web-based fantasy sports software system designed to deliver the ultimate fantasy sports experience for fantasy football, baseball, basketball, hockey and basketball fans.
EVOK Advertising created a print ad campaign that let fantasy sports fans know how they can dominate their league. The campaign was straightforward and attention grabbing.
The original logo design was very high-tech and sleek. The way the “S” created the “P” was akin to the stealth move that Sports Prophet members learned quickly.

Day 9 – November 13, 2010
Today my dad and I went to a Flyers game, which was more fun and exciting than words can possibly describe. Although this wasn’t my first hockey game (my family was big into Orlando’s Solar Bears IHL team way back when), it was my first NHL game, and thus my first Flyers game as well.
For those that don’t live in a “sports town” like Philly, it is really hard to convey what a sporting event is like here. The fans eat, breath, live, and die for their teams. It’s almost like a religion. Attending a game in a sports town like Philly is an experience.
Anyway, my point is, my dad and I had a truly epic time at the game (and the Flyers won, which certainly added to it). The photo below is courtesy of my friend Joanna in a way, who loaned me her really nice point-and-shoot a while back. I couldn’t take in my DSLR, as cameras with detachable lenses were “prohibited.”
NHL '10 Last Second Win
I was down 3-0 in the 3rd and came back to win with 4 goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. Let's go Islanders! Haha. So good.

Oh Canada!
Day 64 - January 4, 2004: We finally did it. Triumphed in Hockey at the World Juniors competition (U-20) with a gold medal performance, the first one in 7 years! Can you believe it?
Met some friends at the Kilkenny Pub to watch the game and took some shots, in low light of the projector screen. To some funny results. Dion Phaneuf, Calgary Flames prospect just scored his first goal of the tourney.

As part of a playoff run, some leagues (most notably hockey and football) have a tradition of not shaving or getting a haircut until they have been eliminated from contention. Since I'm a die-hard fan, I followed suit when the Sox was trying to break their 86-year drought. Here are the results (around Halloween).

Brookhart Cycle Sales- moved out of here 30 years ago...
I was passing through Albany Ohio and looked up the old building. Sox Brookhart sold off road bikes out of this building from around '72 through '78 or '79. Pentons were made by the good folks at KTM for you young people. They were part of a big change in off road competition. Sox hegded his bets (and became rich lol) by selling both Pentons and Husqvarna back in the day. Brookhart Cycle Sales were everywhere at local enduro events back then.
The owner, Sox, was quite a competitive rider from the mid-60s through the early '70s. He was a Husky man... through and through.
JOFA was a Swedish company which adapted hockey gear to off road motorcycling.

Heath Ledger The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan,2008)
Heath Ledger obituary: An actor of promise
Heath Ledger, who has died aged 28, was one of the most promising actors of his generation, best known for his sensitive performance as one of two cowboys who embark on a homosexual relationship in Ang Lee’s film Brokeback Mountain (2005).
Ledger was Ennis Del Mar to Jake Gyllenhaal’s Jack Twist, two ranch-hands who meet in Wyoming in the early 1960s.
They are thrown together looking after sheep in a remote mountain range, and fall in love.
When the job comes to an end, they resume life in the outside world, both marrying and having children. Four years later they meet again, and the relationship is rekindled.
Given the theme, making the film at all was considered a commercial risk, but Ang Lee had no doubts.
And he had no doubts about Ledger’s suitablility for the part of the taciturn Del Mar: "He’s the person that’s the best to carry that western brooding mood - elegiac and fearful and violent, all the complexities, all the poetic qualities."
Ledger himself was unsure if he should take the role, but concluded: "I didn’t feel like I had a career to risk."
In the event, critics and audiences alike were delighted, particularly by Ledger’s performance.
Even E Annie Proulx - on whose short story the film was based - remarked: "How did this actor get inside my head so well? He understood more about the character than I did."
The picture won four Golden Globes (including for best dramatic film and best director) and was nominated for eight Oscars, of which it won three (best director, best adapted screenplay and best score).
Ledger, nominated for best actor, lost out to Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote.
A young man of considerable charm and refreshing modesty, Ledger thought deeply about his craft and set himself high standards which he sometimes feared he was incapable of achieving.
"I don’t really like to do the same thing twice," he said in 2005. "I like to do something I fear. I like to set up obstacles and defeat them."
Heathcliff Andrew Ledger was born in Australia on April 4 1979, the son of Kim Ledger, a mining engineer, and his wife Sally, who taught French.
His first name was a tribute to Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, as was that of his older sister, Katherine.
He was educated privately at Guildford Grammar School, in Perth, Western Australia.
His parents divorced when he was 11. While still a boy Heath joined a local theatre club and was soon appearing in children’s television shows.
In 1992 he was cast in a film, Clowning Around, and the next year was seen in a television series, Ship to Shore.
At the same time he showed promise in other areas, as a junior go-kart racing champion and, aged only 10, as Western Australia’s junior chess champion; he also represented Western Australia at hockey.
Acting, however, was the course he chose to follow.
When he was 16, Heath made his way to Sydney, where he was cast as a gay cyclist in a television series called Sweat.
He also appeared briefly in the soap opera Home and Away.
After another TV series, in which he played a Celtic warrior, he resolved to try his luck in Hollywood.
"I went over there," he later recalled, "with no expectations and all the confidence of youth."
He was soon back in Australia, however, to play a strip-joint bouncer in a film called Two Hands, for which the Australian Film Institute nominated him for a best actor award.
In 1999 Ledger appeared in 10 Things I Hate About You, with Julia Stiles.
Although essentially a lightweight, teen romance, critics were impressed by his performance, and Ledger found himself offered a succession of similar parts, a development that he did not welcome.
For a year he accepted no work, and was reduced to borrowing money from his agent to survive; for much of the time, he claimed, he lived on "noodles and water".
"I’m happy without money," he told one interviewer. "I never did have it, so that was no big deal. And it was fun saying No - because they really don’t like to hear that word in Hollywood."
In 2000, however, Ledger’s career suddenly prospered again when he was offered in a part in The Patriot, the film about the American Revolution starring Mel Gibson.
Ledger, cast as Gibson’s son, delighted the critics, one of whom described him as "smouldering on screen".
In A Knight’s Tale (2001) he played a squire who disguises himself as a nobleman in order to participate in jousting tournaments.
If the film itself was somewhat inconsequential, Ledger again won praise - and now he began to have misgivings about his increasing celebrity, misgivings which were never entirely erased.
After another TV series, in which he played a Celtic warrior, he resolved to try his luck in Hollywood.
"I went over there," he later recalled, "with no expectations and all the confidence of youth."
He was soon back in Australia, how
