TL Cabins
Twin Lakes offers eight overnight lodgings, six* of which are similar in design and layout. These six cabins (3 waterfront and 3 non waterfront) have two bedrooms, full bathroom, fireplace, central air and heat, screened in porch, common room and kitchen. All cabins are located on the Prince Edward Lake side of the park.
*Cabins 7 and 8 are known as The Martin Cottage and The Hill Lodge respectively and have different floor plans and accomodations as the six standard cabins.

Floor detail
The majority of floor tiles in the cathedral are 19th century copies of medieval floor tiles found during restoration of Christ Church in the 1870s. They were made by Craven Dunhill and Co. of Shropshire. They were known in the 19th century as "encaustic tiles" and formed part of a revival of Gothic art.
The outer ring of this panel shows the cathedral's most famous tile, decorated with the pilgrim foxes. The foxes have the traditional pilgrim trappings of hats, walking sticks and satchels. The design has been dated to the early 14th century, when there was a fashion for comical depictions of animals dressed as humans.

Concrete Vertical Treatment & Concrete Hearth in Squirrel Hill
Take Pride Construction and Design LLC collaborated with Concrete Zen of Pittsburgh PA to customize the Fireplace area. The right and left flanking cabinets and Firebox were fabricated and set by a custom cabinet maker working on the project. The clients wanted to have an old world look in a modern setting. Nicole Santella of Concrete Zen created some sample boards with an erratic texture still smooth to the touch. The concrete stains were made from a soy base from Eco Procote - SoyCrete selections purchased at Artemis Environmental in Larwenceville (Pittsburgh,PA). The hearth was made from 3/4" GFRC Concrete to sit 3/16" proud of the hardwood floor. The graining pattern on the Concrete Hearth was also created from soycrete stains.

Berni restaurants
1956 Wednesday June 27th.
The re-opening of a restored bar in St Nicholas Market in the heart of old Bristol hardly looked like a moment of British post-war history. But it was. No-one afterwards could blame the Post's man sent to cover the story of Night One in the refurbished bar at the ancient Rummer tavern which had been taken over by the Bristol company Hort's, which was run by Frank and Aldo Berni and Paul Rosse. How was he to know that he was witnessing the opening salvo in a revolution that was to change the eating out habits of the British for the next two decades? But he was.
He was among the first to hear news of a 'Berni', as a meal at one of the scores of Berni restaurants up and down the country would soon be known. The company was named after Hort's restaurant which the Berni brothers had bought in 1943. After the ending of meat rationing in 1954, the Bemis hoped to import American-style, controlled portion steak and chips catering, served in as authentic an Olde English atmosphere as possible.
The Rummer, sometimes claimed as one of the oldest inns in the country, was to be their prototype. They heard that the Bristol Corporation-owned pub was available and moved quickly. They won the tenancy and called in a designer who exploited all the period details.
The place was a rabbit warren and it perfectly suited their plans for a series of bars and restaurants . . . and steak grill rooms.
Opening night on June 27th, 1956 brought plenty of interest. 'In three short weeks a complete transformation has been effected. Thirteen coats of old paint, nearly half an inch thick, had to be removed before the redecoration could begin. 'As customers moved into the new bar, work on dismantling the old one began. Some of the pipes bringing beer from the cellar have been found to be at least 100 years old.
'Looking through the window on to the Market, one's eyes are caught by a notice recalling the presence of Morrison's old restaurant. 'Lunches at 1s 6d and 1s 9d.' 'These prices, I am told, prevailed until just before the war—an unpleasant reminder of the tremendous rise in the cost of catering and the difficulties now facing all restaurateurs. 'When the ground floor is finished the new occupiers hope to open a grill room on the first floor, but that will be some time in the future'.
The grill room with its soon-to-be- famous limited menu was open within months. Any difficulties facing the Berni restaurant were over weeks after that. The Berni revolution had begun.
Eaton's restaurant
The Montreal Eaton's 9th floor restaurant is an Art deco landmark in Montreal. It used to be known simply as "The Ninth Floor".
Lady Eaton was the wife of the multi-millionaire owner of the former Eaton's chain of department stores in Canada. For several decades she endeavoured to give her own interpretation of "class and style" to the major stores in the chain. On January 26, 1931, she opened a large art deco restaurant on the top 9th floor of the Montreal Eaton's store, designed by the architect Jacques Carlu.It was a very close copy of the first class dining hall of her favourite transatlantic liner, the Ile de France. After being closed for several years following Eaton's bankruptcy in 1999 the 9th floor restaurant was given heritage status by the Quebec government. Plans for retrofitting the restaurant to modern safety standards were drawn up by Fournier, Gersovitz, Moss et associes, a Montreal architectural firm but have yet to be implemented. Currently it is mothballed and slowly deteriorating.
This restaurant is now the largest memento of the defunct liner and is a registered historical site. It has been the locale for rites of passage and/or female bonding activities over several generations, as described in the National Film Board of Canada documentary Les Dames du 9e, known in English as The Ladies of the 9th Floor. The main 9th floor corridor leading from the elevators to the restaurant is also finished in the art deco style

Day 43: Prepare for some better lighting
I finally, finally got my second light to work. It was simply a matter of buying a new attachment, then sending it back, buying a new one, realizing I was still missing something, seeking help from the strobist group, buying more stuff, sending it back . . .
But here were are. So, hopefully I can figure out how to *use* them now. I only got about 10 minutes to tinker, and then ended up spending way too much time processing a mediocre capture (I've really been trying to learn how to split tone well, which is much harder than I imagined it.
So, I'm fairly happy with this - even if it looks like I'm the latest alien invader to get a prime time TV show. What the heck, we all have to have our dreams, eh? Primetime isn't a bad one.

I have been dastardly busy lately. I haven't had a chance to take my camera for a whirl in quite some time. I am not sure how much time I will be spending around here in the next bit, but I always love drawing inspirations from others.
On to other news, I bought a Mac Apple Pro laptop :) Loooooovvvvvveeee it! I have needed a laptop so badly in the last few months and finally bit the bullet as a Christmas gift to myself. I am trying my hand at Aperture 3.0 to see what it is all about. Any comments or advice about Aperture would be much appreciated (e.g., how it compares to PS, ease of use, etc.).

JP Sweeney and I drove to Hastings MI for an auction at a print shop. Hoping to find a bunch of letterpress furniture and equipment items, we were outbid on a lot and underwhelmed by the rest.
Shop was the white building on the corner. Beautiful interior, with tin ceilings and hardwood floors throughout, that had long since been over-plastered and refinished in 1980-era whitewall. Some cool tuff remained here and there, though. Four-foot diameter spiral staircase to basement, for instance.

Why is everything so difficult...?
Today, I drove myself nuts trying to finalise plans for my new kitchen...
Usually, I love sorting all this kind of thing out, but panic has well and truly set in, and I'm having to alter plans as my budget diminishes rapidy! Gone are the ceramic floor tiles, substituted instead with click-together lookalikes, and I fear that the wall tiling will have to wait until the next payday... However, I do now have a fitter, and he's already suggested several ways of saving me from penury, not least the very reasonable amount he's charging to install the kitchen!

I know there was a wood-grain PT Cruiser—but perhaps that should be considered "ironic." What was the final car to be sold with un-ironic wood grain? Caprice wagon?

Flooring just doesn't grow on trees! We stripped this area of its flooring to fill in the other area because this was a high traffic area and we thought it would be fun to make it more challenging to carry things up the stairs. We will replace with subfloor and some sort of traffic friendly material. Maybe Tile??? Maybe not!

As long as there is a need for adolescent male sexual fantasy, there will be an audience for Heavy Metal. Released in 1981 and based on stories from the graphic magazine of the same name (possibly the greatest publication to simultaneously provoke imagination and masturbation), the film has since become the most popular single title in Columbia/TriStar's entire film library. That's an amazing fact considering just how silly and senseless the movie really is--an aimless, juvenile amalgam of disjointed stories and clashing visual styles, employing hundreds of animators from around the world with a near-total absence of creative cohesion. It remains, for better and worse, a midnight-movie favorite for the stoner crowd--a movie best enjoyed by randy adolescents or near-adults in an altered state of consciousness. With a framing story about a glowing green orb claiming to be the embodiment of all evil, the film shuttles through eight episodic tales of sci-fi adventure, each fueled by some of the most wretched rock music to emerge from the 1980s. The most consistent trademark is an abundance of blood-splattering violence and wet-dream sex, the latter involving a succession of huge-breasted babes who shed their clothes at the drop of a G-string. It's all quite fun in its rampantly brainless desire to fuel the young male libido, and for all its incoherence Heavy Metal remains impressive for the ambitious artistry of its individual segments. Instead of cartoon vignettes that chronicle adolescent fantasies of sex and drugs in the near future, this sequel to 1981's Heavy Metal follows but one story. On a distant planet, a fountain of eternal life has been locked away by a race of supposedly wise people, who have buried the only key deep in space. If found, the key will give directions to the planet, but will also drive the finder crazy--which is exactly what happens. On his way to the planet of youth, Tyler (voice of venerable character actor Michael Ironside) wipes out most of a space colony and kidnaps a sexy woman. His big mistake is that he doesn't kill the woman's sister, Julie (voice of B-movie actress Julie Strain), who then sets out on a mission of rescue and revenge. Created with an uneasy blend of computer and traditional cel animation, Heavy Metal 2000 is utterly predictable. Even the sex scenes are bland and politically correct, eschewing the joy of dirty sex in favor of glimpses of T&A and lots of violence and gore. Of course, one big reason for this movie is to supplement its heavy metal soundtrack, which includes Pantera, Monster Magnet, MDFMK, Insane Clown Posse, Billy Idol, and others. Released in 1981 and based on stories from the graphic magazine of the same name (possibly the greatest publication to simultaneously provoke imagination and masturbation), the film has since become the most popular single title in Columbia/TriStar's entire film library. That's an amazing fact considering just how silly and senseless the movie really is--an aimless, juvenile amalgam of disjointed stories and clashing visual styles, employing hundreds of animators from around the world with a near-total absence of creative cohesion. It remains, for better and worse, a midnight-movie favorite for the stoner crowd--a movie best enjoyed by randy adolescents or near-adults in an altered state of consciousness.
With a framing story about a glowing green orb claiming to be the embodiment of all evil, the film shuttles through eight episodic tales of sci-fi adventure, each fueled by some of the most wretched rock music to emerge from the 1980s. The most consistent trademark is an abundance of blood-splattering violence and wet-dream sex, the latter involving a succession of huge-breasted babes who shed their clothes at the drop of a G-string. It's all quite fun in its rampantly brainless desire to fuel the young male libido, and for all its incoherence Heavy Metal remains impressive for the ambitious artistry of its individual segments. This handsome Romanesque Revival Post Office building is admirably located. It may be seen from the Parkes-Cadman Plaza which extends from the east end of Brooklyn Bridge to Borough Hall, The original portion of the building, facing Johnson Street, is only one-third the size of this imposing structure which now covers an entire block. Although the new part is an exceptionally well designed seven story addition and adheres faithfully to the design of the original, it is the old portion, dating from 1885, which is architecturally the giost interesting. This old structure is four stories high and has a steep, sloping roof with a high, square tower on the southwest corner.
The basement and first floors display both handsome rock-faced and polished cut granite. The remainder of the building is faced with smooth surfaced cut stone, although the principal windows are framed with attractive rock-faced granite, A steep, sloping slate roof, punctuated by heavily ornamented dormer windows, rises above a corbelled cornice. Each floor is marked by strong horizontal moldings. The Johnson Street facade is the most impressive, particularly its central motif, which consists of a strong central grouping of windows above the great arched entrance doorway. It terminates in a large ornamental gable. This central portion is flanked on either side by striking, semicircular towers which are seated on carved, stone corbels.
This Post Office displays a wealth of detail with its doors and windows handsomely enframed in stone. The small towers, flanking the entrance, are richly decorated with Romanesque detail, as is the large corner tower which is terminated, at its top, by a series of balconies and a high pyramidal roof.
The Post Office is an excellent example of the Romanesque Revival Style and, interestingly, it also combines some French and German Renaissance detail in its design. It takes its place with Borough Hall and some of the newer public buildings in embellishing Brooklyn's new Municipal Center.

Johnson Ferry chose marble floors because of their practical acoustic properties, not as a luxury (and purchasing architectural marble here in Georgia is not as expensive as you might imagine if you live in an area with less extensive marble quarries). Here the polished stone reflects the image of the bride and her father as the “Trumpet Tune” of Purcell rolls forth from the organ.
I had wondered how a wedding would make use of a two-aisle church; in this case the bride entered down the left aisle, was married, and then the new couple exited down the right aisle.

Guests stepping up to enter the room may exchange street shoes for vinyl slippers. Then the fun begins. The guests can swing on the silver dance floor, choose sides for games played on the plum paneled floor, chat in the orange-toned conversation pit while peeking through the sliding panels, or relax against the mass of rainbow-hued pillows. This is an all-vinyl room from top to bottom. Ceiling, soffit, walls, furniture, floor, all are covered with eye-catching, colorful vinyl.
