Every year, Nike (NYSE:NKE -3.33%) will further expand upon its collaborations catalog by inviting in new partners to work with. And for Fall/Winter 2022, WHO DECIDES WAR will be joining these ranks and teaming up with the Swoosh for a few special footwear makeups that involve the Air Force 1 Low and the Air Max Dawn. Both styles were previewed at Everand Best‘s most recent NYFW show, and we’ve got an up-close perspective of each of the one-of-one pairs.

Leading the pack is the Air Force 1 Low which is styled with a lighter beige upper half and sole unit along with chocolate brown overlays closest to the throat. A white lace-like material hugs the Swooshes, as well as the toe boxes and heels in a distressed manner. Moreover, the shoes are decorated with WHO DECIDES WAR branding in typewriter font across the side panels and heels, and the tongues substitute the traditional Nike Air logo for a “W” marking.

Dropping alongside the AF1s is the oft-forgotten Nike Air Max Dawn iteration. Best reworks this silhouette with a ghastly element as the a set of tiny golden skulls have been attached to its bold blue Swooshes. Elsewhere on the upper, the shoes appear to be built with an off-white synthetic material that is paired up with creamy overlays.

Travis Scott’s Nike collaborations could return soon. On-foot photos of the rapper’s brown Air Trainer 1 Mid sneaker — originally slated to release at the end of 2021 — have surfaced, suggesting a release may be around the corner. After Astroworld, however, it’s unclear whether the shoes will see the same heightened demand as before.

HIT PAUSE — The Air Trainers, alongside 10 other Cactus Jack sneakers, were postponed in November after Scott’s Astroworld music festival left 10 people dead and over 300 injured. Since then, the rapper has ceased his partnerships with multiple brands — including Fortnite, Dior, and his own spiked seltzer brand, Cacti — and has maintained that Live Nation, the show promoter behind Astroworld, was responsible for the tragedy. Regardless, Scott’s image (and revenue) has been severely impacted since the music festival.

In the three months since Astroworld, it’s been unclear whether the rapper’s fanbase is as strong as it once was. People have supported Scott through similar scenarios before — defending his history of encouraging raging crowds — but after the events at his music festival, some fans went as far as to break copies of the rapper’s records, burn Cactus Jack merchandise, and block Travis on music streaming platforms. Thousands of Astroworld attendees are still seeking legal compensation for injuries as Congress itself has launched a bipartisan investigation into the tragedy. That said, some people may be willing to look the other way in the name of exclusivity and hype — just look at the comments on any of Kanye West’s unabashed Instagram posts.


TRAINING FOR A COMEBACK — Scott’s Air Trainers first surfaced last August, when paparazzi shots showed the rapper wearing a pair around New York City. The retro kicks channel Scott’s love of brown, featuring various shades of tan and chestnut. A translucent brown outsole and dark brown overlays stand out amongst a tan corduroy upper with light brown accents, while Scott’s reverse Swoosh matches pink eyelets and back heel branding, which reads “CACT.US CORPORATION.” The same branding appears on a velcro strap at the bottom of the lace unit.

Known as the “Swiss Army Knife of performance shoes,” the Air Trainer 1 Mid ruled ‘90s sports and, later, the ‘00s, as Nike issued a rebirth series. Scott has kept many of the sneaker’s functional details, including protective removable sheaths and zippered pockets at the heel.

Nike has yet to debut official imagery of Scott’s Air Trainer 1 Mid, meaning the brand may continue to delay the rapper’s sneakers. In December, when Nike first announced the postponement, it was supposed to release two Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack shoes — neither of which has surfaced since. It’s possible that the delays have altered Nike’s drop schedule, especially as a spring release is rumored for the Air Trainer 1 Mid sneaker. Still, seeing Scott’s shoes on SNKRS seems to be an occurrence as likely as spotting the rapper nowadays.

Having recently celebrated his 25th birthday, Swedish skateboarder, Oskar “Oski” Rozenberg, has shared various teaser shots of his next Nike SB Dunk “Great White Shark” collaboration. In addition to up-close imagery he’s posted on social media, the Malmö-native reached out to us folks at Sneaker News with exclusive photos, as well as to confirm that his next joint-effort with the Swoosh will release in early 2022 and in full family-sizing.

Akin to his Nike SB collaboration from December 2019, the upcoming sneakers feature the aforementioned aquatic predator at the profiles instead of swoosh logos. The remainder of the model swaps black leather for a white variant that plays into the pair’s theme a lot closer. As with initial images of the skate-ready Nike Dunk, “Oski”‘s latest gallery confirms a number of ruby-colored details throughout the shoes. An additional set of red laces are also included with the pair, which highlight branding on the tongue, stitching on the midsole and the shark graphics’ mouth. Yet, what’s revealed via the new batch of images is that Little Kid and Toddler sizing of the collaboration will arrive as SB Dunk Lows and not Highs. Adults who prefer the low-top version may eventually be treated, but only time will tell.

Editor's Notes: I'll be honest, the frequency and sheer quantity of Nike Dunk Low releases throughout the duration of 2021 has been pretty overwhelming.

I was never a huge Dunk fan as I'd always seen the Highs as nothing more than an Air Jordan 1 substitute, making the Lows guilty by association. Thanks to the overexposure of drops, I found myself forced into giving them a second chance, and where the Lows were concerned, I was persuaded.

During the summer, it was hard to walk down the street without spotting the full spectrum of Dunks. Despite the sneaker's relatively low price point and release quantities, it was surprising to see them touch resale.

The majority of Dunk colorways have been characteristically bright hues, such as the "Laser Orange" and "University Blue" iterations, but as we enter the second year of Dunk mania, darker, vintage-washed colorways are taking the lead.

Nike is clearly adopting a new direction to afford the silhouette a new life, possibly taking note of the fatigue many are feeling by applying yellowed soles and aged-looking leather to upcoming pairs.

Initially, it appeared that the "Aged Navy" may be the only colorway to adapt this pre-loved aesthetic, but as we edge closer and closer to 2022, further colorways are rising to the surface – for both Highs and Lows.

This look, dubbed "Vintage Green," features the usual Dunk color blocking, overlaying aged emerald green leather on a classic white base. Yellow soles finish off the dug-out-of-the-thrift-store aesthetic.

Expected to drop later on this year, here are official images of the Supreme x Nike SB Dunk High By Any Means in the Black and White colorway.

This upcoming Supreme x Nike SB collab pays tribute to Supreme’s 2008 “By Any Means” collection. Done in a Black/White-Varsity Red color scheme, this Nike SB Dunk High starts off with a Black leather base seen on the toe box, side panels, and ankle/heel which is then joined by contrasting White leather placed on the overlays as well as on the Swooshes and laces. Other design details include “By Any Means” written across the heels, NY with a red Swoosh also seen on the heels, “No d” on the lateral forefoot, “SUP” Swoosh branding on the tongues, “Supreme Team” embroidery on the back ankle, “World Famous” written on the lace tips, and co-branded Red insoles. A White midsole and Black rubber outsole finish off the look.

The Supreme x Nike SB Dunk High By Any Means in Black and White has no official release info yet, but they are expected to drop later on this year at Supreme in-store and online. Aside from the Nike Dunk High 1985 “Red Acid Wash” that’s debuting next week, the Nike Dunk High will be dropping in another special edition colorway consisting of this “Blue Camo” color scheme. As suggested, the model is punctuated with camouflage print on the toe cap and a 3M grid pattern prominent on the tongues. Composed of premium leather, black dominates its majority while contrasting blue adorns the heel area, outlining of the Swooshes, lining behind the tongue, and rubber outsole. Finally, a white midsole and black laces complete the overall profile.
