  • A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera that uses a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.

  • Digital Single-Lens Reflex Camera, or a larger digital camera with interchangeable lenses, like the Canon Rebel, 20D, etc. These cameras are larger and you typically take a picture while looking through the viewfinder (eye hole) rather than looking at the LCD screen like a point and shoot.

I've been thinking about upgrading for a while now. Best Buy was having a sale on cameras this week, and this Canon T1i came with 18-55mm and 50-250mm lenses, an 8GB high-speed card, and a camera bag. It was a very good d eal, so I bought it.

Quite a learning curve with this camera. I'm used to my sx110 and S5IS, where I can see in the LCD screen what my picture will look like. I keep forgetting that with this camera, what I see in the viewfinder isn't necessarily what I'm getting - if I don't have the correct settings, it's too dark or too light. That led to a lot of "oops" moments yesterday, when I took it out for a test drive. I've mostly been using the automatic setting, but have done a little work in the manual setting. What's nice is that the ISO and speed controls are on the top right of the camera, near the shutter release, and can be changed with that hand. I still have to figure out how to change the f-stops!

What the.....!

What the.....!

I don't know why I never noticed it before, but since I bought a couple of fast primes I started to suspect that maybe the lenses or the camera were backfocusing.

Well...It was the camera!
So I dared to calibrate it myself and - thanks God - it worked!

Now my photos are as sharp as my shaky hands will let them be.
