SOUND FOR SINGERS - A 'LIVE SOUND' WORKSHOP
You can sing, but is your 'live sound' letting your performance down? This is a one-day hands-on workshop cutting through the smoke and mirrors of managing live sound, looking at microphones, PA, engineers and all the jargon!
The workshop is being held in Edinburgh's Voodoo Rooms on Saturday 21 January from 10am to 4.30pm and is for anyone who wants to get the best out of their sound on stage or in the studio. Your hosts for the day are: Sound Engineers David Keay and Mark McKellen and vocalist/workshop facilitator Jess Abrams. Handouts, water, tea and coffee provided (perhaps even a biccie or two too!). The cost for the full day is Ł50/Ł40.

Your experts:
MARK McKELLEN has been a professional sound engineer for over a decade specialising in jazz. He’s worked in everything from small clubs and outdoor venues to large arenas and stages. He recently toured with Kurt Elling and is the regular touring sound engineer for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. For the last 6 years he has worked at CC Music in Glasgow specialising in PA systems and equipment.
DAVID KEAY cut his teeth as a sound engineer at the legendary Henry’s Jazz Cellar 11 years ago. Since then he has been a mainstay of the Scottish Jazz and Folk scenes doing sound for the likes of Carol Kidd, Fiona Duncan, Brian Kellock, Ricki Lee Jones and Jamie Cullum. He owns Bootcamp Recordings – a live sound and recording company based in Edinburgh and works free-lance throughout the UK and further a field.
JESS ABRAMS has been a performing musician for over 15 years, working in New York, the UK and Europe. She’s studied with some inspiring musicians including Kirk Nurock, Jay Clayton and Nina Sheldon as well as at Mannes College in New York –the classical Conservatory of The New School. Jess has been facilitating workshops in personal development and communication skills for longer than she cares to admit. She also works in the field of 'music in the community' and 'music intervention', with a strong focus on good practice and high standards of delivery.
