The iconic Isetta bubblecar began life in Italy, a product of Iso, SpA., maker of refrigerators and motor scooters. Introduced in Turin in November 1953, it stunned the public with its front-opening door and bubble-inspired shape. Production in Italy ceased in 1955, though license-built efforts continued in Spain, France and Brazil. The most prolific producer of Isettas, however, turned out to be BMW in Germany, which began production in April 1955 using a 247 cc motorcycle engine of their own manufacture. Re-engineering was so complete that no parts actually interchanged with the Italian predecessor, but the basic design remained true to the Isetta idea. In 1956, sliding side windows replaced earlier “bubble” units, and engine displacement was increased to 295 cc, with the resulting car named Isetta 300.

511474: Fresh from a complete body-off-frame restoration, this absolutely stunning example is suitable for any show arena. The desirable US Export, sliding-glass, vented door coupe was revived in Sand Beige over Coral Red with cream interior; completed just this summer!



During the restoration, the Isetta was fully disassembled and stripped to bare metal. Every single item was either replaced or repainted. The shell, including wheel wells and undercarriage were painstakingly smoothed, reshaped and refinished (3-stage) beyond factory standards. All brightwork, including bumpers, trim and emblems were replaced with new equipment.



The gorgeous cabins displays new cream vinyl upholstery and trim, correct German square weave carpeting and mat, as well as original steering wheel assembly and instrumentation. The rag top was refinished in tan canvas.



With its effortless acceleration and smooth shifting, this example is hands down the best driving 300 we have ever come across. For the microcar enthusiast, this is an opportunity not to be missed!
