General Information

The VR6 engine uses a cast-iron cylinder block with a lightweight aluminium alloy cylinder head. The camshafts are driven by a timing chain, rather than a rubber timing belt, leading to much greater durability. The spark plugs are driven by the Bosch Motronic Engine Management System using a compact coil-pack. The ECU is able to adjust the timing on-the-fly and features two knock sensors (one for each bank of cylinders) in order to prevent detonation. Firing the six cylinders in the same order as a regular straight-six, the VR6 engine is able to deliver smooth, refined power and plenty of torque at nearly any point in the rev range. The VR6 engine is also solidly engineered, featuring forged rather than cast internals, and with proper care and regular servicing, will provide a very long service life. The 02A Manual transmission uses a hydraulic clutch and a cable actuated shift mechanism.
