PLASTIC REPAIR FILLER - REPAIR FILLER

Ami 8 : today's breakdown Not for nothing is this car call the Green Pig. There is a thin breather fuel line that runs alongside the fuel filler pipe. This line is metal where it exits the tank and stiffish plastic where it runs up to the fuel filler cap. The two are joined together between A & B by a short piece of approx 15mm inside diameter flexible pipe. Over the past thirty odd years this had rotted a bit and let go last night. I expect the recent deep freezes took their toll. As the car was parked overnight on a steep slope with the rear right hand wheel lowest of all there was a steady drip drip drip all night with a full tank. Interim repair made this morning ( didn't have any right size fuel line to hand) and it's 'on the list'. Not sure if this is the same for all A-series Citroen's or just the Ami but it's worth a check if yours is an old-un. To be fair it was more a failure to proceed than a full flung breakdown; the only real inconvenience was we were all set to crack on with pruning the apple trees. Chuh! DSC01578 I've searched ebay for replacement wheel centres in the correct size for these rims, but found nothing in the right size. Being a creative kind of guy, and having time to kill while the paint was drying on the rear wing repair, I thought I'd try and knock a replacement together from things I had lying around. In true 'Blue Peter' fashion (you need to be from the UK to understand that one!), you will need to gather together: - one rattle can lid - a handful of plasticine modelling clay - one original wheel centre - one flat piece of steel sheet - some body filler - silver paint - one mig welder (You could use an empty washing-up liquid bottle instead of the rattle can lid. You won't need any sticky-back plastic for this project though!). First of all, push the plasticine into the rattle can lid until it sits just proud of the rim. Firmly push the original wheel centre into the plasticine, then carefully remove it. You now have your mould... Sunday Morning Suckiness So, this morning the wife and I are already late for church, as we got to bed late and forgot to set the alarm to wake us up. We schlep to the car and I'm pulling out when something feels very wrong. Parking brake on? Nope, that's fine. Car in correct gear? Yep. Uh-oh. Yes indeedy, we'd developed a very flat tire overnight. So, this morning, instead of driving off to church, I got to experience the joy of changing a flat in the rain. Light rain, but still rain nonetheless. The spare tire was, unfortunately, low on air. I guess I should have had it checked or something. It got us to Wal-Mart, however (at a brisk 30 MPH), where I had both front tires replaced (they couldn't repair the flat). Yippee skippee. Oh well, it was about time for new tires anyhow. Maserati Mexico 1966-1973 The Vignale Maserati Mexico (Tipo 112) body was first used on a 5000GT chassis which an important Mexican customer had shipped to Italy for repair after crashing it. Originally powered by a 4.7 Litre V8 that produced 290 bhp, the car managed to turn out a top speed between 240–250 km/h (150-156 mph). In 1969, however, contrary to Maserati tradition, the Mexico was also made available with a 'smaller' engine. This time the 4.2-litre V8 engine The Mexico was the first production Maserati to be fitted with servo assisted ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels. (17) Saltburn Pier, North Yorkshire The most northerly surviving British Pier and the last remaining in Yorkshire, the history of Saltburn Pier tells a remarkable tale of a man made structure defying the elements. Built in an exposed position and facing due north into the unforgiving North Sea, the pier in the little resort of Saltburn was commissioned by the Saltburn Pier Company in 1867. Designed by Mr J Anderson the pier was completed two years later, opening in May 1869. Built to a length of 1,400ft (424m) Saltburn Pier consisted of iron trestles under a wooden deck. There was a steamer landing stage at the head and two circular kiosks, used as office accommodation at the entrance. The pier's first encounter with the wrath of nature was to come in 1874 and 1875 when the landing stage and part of Saltburn Pier itself were lost in violent storms. The pier re-opened in 1877 but by 1880 Saltburn Pier's once proud owners were looking to sell the structure. Under new ownership Saltburn Pier saw a revival in fortunes. It was restored to a length of 1,250ft (379m) and windshields, a bandstand, and refreshment rooms were added. The company also arranged for the repair of the Cliff Lift, allowing visitors much easier access to Saltburn Pier. Further storm damage occurred in 1900 to the pier-head, and in May 1924 the 'Ovenbeg' collided with the West Side of the structure ripping out a considerable amount of the deck. As the bandstand was now inaccessible a theatre was built at the shoreward end in 1925. The damage caused by the collision was finally repaired, five years later, in 1930. Purchased by the local council in 1938, Saltburn Pier along with other East Coast piers was sectioned in 1940 for fear of German invasion. Re-built at a cost of ?20,000 repair work commenced shortly after the cessation of hostilities in 1947, opening to the public in April 1952. The following year a severe gale badly twisted the whole structure necessitating repairs estimated at ?23,000. These were to take a further five years to complete, but no sooner had Saltburn Pier reopened when two piles were lost at the seaward end costing a further ?6,000 to replace. Worse was to follow in 1961 when some twenty piles were badly twisted in another exceptional storm. The 1970s were going to prove no kinder in Saltburn Pier's turbulent history. In 1971, 1973 and 1974 piles were lost at the seaward end leaving the pier in a dangerous state. As emergency plans were being drawn up to save the pier, a severe gale on 29th October 1974 washed away the pier-head and left the remainder of the neck in a much weakened state. Finally, the local council had had enough and in 1975 they submitted an application to the Department of the Environment to have Saltburn Pier demolished. Against the odds Saltburn Pier survived yet again when a public enquiry concluded that only the last thirteen trestles should be removed and the remainder of the structure should be restored. The pier, now reduced in length to 681ft (206m), was restored, reopening to the public on 29th June 1978 after a closure of five years. A new restaurant in the entrance building was opened the following year. Further restoration work was carried in the early 1990s when the entrance-building roof was renewed using Welsh Slate in keeping with its original appearance earlier in the century. With the new millenium, this Grade II listed pier underwent a major restoration programme to return it to its former glory. Work included stabilising the foundations, replacing the decaying steel beams with hardwood, and re-laying over 5 miles of decking. Saltburn Pier was officially re-opened to the public on 13th July 2001. Day 127~Plant A New Idea Explore #348 Day 127/365 This was taken in one of the craziest art yards in town! Felt like I talked all day The world around me faded into grey.... And I might be able to lower my taxes, if I call my forest a wood lot and the trees a crop. Even if my 'plan' is to 'harvest' them in a hundred years... but then if they happen to survey me and come upon an old tree which is 'past its prime' which I have not cut, then I can be called negligent. If the zoning in my area were different, I could get a break on my taxes for providing wildlife habitat, but not here. Here I have to claim that I will never allow snags to exist as woodpecker homes... It's a tough call. But then, I have already actually harvested quite a few trees. And I used them for fence posts and have milled some for the porch. So I didn't sell them, but because of having them, I did not buy other people's slain forest. I don't know if that counts. SECOND REPLACEMENT SCREEN! This one (replacement on the left, original touch screen on the right) is better made: still of glass, but the exact size and thickness as the original. The cable connector is also nearly identical. Whee! BTW, I got this second replacement from some random seller on eBay. Had to pay a little more for one from WITHIN the US, because I just don't have the time to wait for another one from Hong Kong. The screen assembly My LCD was fine, but the touch screen was on its way out. P.S. That blue edge on the screen was annoying to get off... make sure your X-acto knife is VERY pointy for this one... and don't stick it in all the way or you WILL scratch up your LCD. Our house and this one are brobably the oldest on our street, this one near the railroad tracks, have been said to belong to the railroad at one time, but havent found any information to support this. Jim, North Long Beach It was either 1987 or 88 and I was visiting friends in the Los Angeles area when my car self destructed on the 710 in Long Beach. We brought the car to a mechanic on Cherry Hill and they siad it would take a few days to repair. Days actually turned into weeks and Jim let me sleep on his floor for the duration. I was there a total of 3 weeks which was very nice and horrible in the same way. I got away from my parents but ended up getting on Jim's nerves and visca versa. We ate pizza or pasta most nights and would go to the local liquor store in nearby Compton and buy beer and play video games with the local street gang. Jim died a year later. Bench, done Bench done! I picked this little footstool/bench out of a neighbor's garbage a few weeks ago. I wish I had taken a "before" picture, so you could see. It was ugly wood colored with a red vinyl top. I brought it home for my mother to work on. My father repaired the wood, my mother painted it blue and reupholstered the top. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the top opens up to a little storage area. I thought it'd be perfect for Jon to sit on while he plays video games and to store some game stuff in the top. Project 365/004: Bits and Bytes I forgot my digital camera on my office desk, so I have to settle for the cell phone shot I took today while testing out a few angles. I was trying to get some fancy shmancy shots of the server farm in the data center, but the lighting wasn't so great. Oh well, it will have to do for #004. I'm grateful to have been at my job coming up on 12 years now. My very first IT job was working data entry at Great America in Gurnee, IL. I was mainly responsible for processing all of the greasy, grimy employee timesheets that were turned in at the end of the day. Those things would get so dirty with food and gunk, that we had a hard time making out what was written on them. Every once in a while, I would get to go out and repair a cash register, or the Lotto vending machines throughout the park. Remember those? Probably not... One of the perks? I got to see some of the invoices when parts were ordered for new roller coasters and such. I'd get the inside scoop! Many, MANY things have changed in the IT world since then. I sure hope they did away with those slimy timesheets. Willie the Shoe Wizard Best seen in larger size over dark (click image above) In a world of robotic mass manufacturing of disposable shoes, Willie the Master Cobbler is a rare throw back to the past. No credit cards and verification machines here - just cash with an old fashioned cash register from the '60s. He and his wife, who helps out at the store, are also wonderful people. This is his shop in Campbell, California.
