I've been doing A LOT of cleaning up around my room and basement lately. In doing so, I've come across a lot of old memories that unfortunately I have no room for in my home any longer.

I used to play these games - and others - like there was no tomorrow on my trusty old 8086 IBM PC (pre-286 Intel processors). These were intense games that often left me jittery and sometimes a little frightened at night - I was small back then! Nonetheless, they were games of great entertainment.

Inside the box, I found some 3.5" disks so maybe I'll just try and install them all over again.

While getting some Christmas supplies, we were distracted by the new Stax logs. With a $3-off coupon, how could we resist. These puppies crank out the heat and flames, as you can see. If only Laura Jane had known about these during her stay...

They offer 3 logs in a bundle - burn two to start, then add the third after ~2 hours. We shall see how it plays out. A nice touch during the final Xmas decorating push.

Though Stax are more pricey than your typical Duraflame log, the effect is much more realistic and fun - big flames (as you can see from this shot). We're thinking great for a party or other special occasion - Duraflame offers coupons on-line; our coupon was attached to the bundle.

We went out to eat at Annabelle's and I got the seafood quiche and it was SOOOO GOOD. We had a $10 off coupon, which was nice... so I got a fried cheesecake for desert. I really shouldn't have, but I haven't had one in so long.

I also got started on cleaning our bedroom, so we could fit our wardrobe rack in here, thus making room for my art supply bin in the kitchen for me to work in there. :) I'm so excited.

Oh, and I went to the pottery to trim the pots that I threw Thursday. They look nice. Once I fire these, and everything is bisqued, I'll have a glazing day for about 7 pieces. SO happy!

Horizontal Rainbow !!!!

This was very odd. I have never before seen a horizontal rainbow. This was from Skye looking towards the Knoydart Penninsula. It wasone of a few very quick shots as it was not going to last long.
Senior management asked a local if it happens a lot and recieved the comment "I never seen that before!"
Someone said the colours were reversed in order but perhaps someone can confirm or deny this. If so is that odd as well?
Unfortunately the pic does not really do the rainbow justice as the colours were so subtle.

1960s style - headscarf worn turban fashion - a style that came into its own during WW2 and indeed was, I believe, recommended by the Government, as being the most efficient way of keeping hair (long hair was fashionable) cleanish and out of the way of machinery in factories,

The beehive hairstyle of the 1960s was probably the biggest factor leading to the demise of this style, together with the introduction of hygene hats, snoods etc. and a generally cleaner and less dangerous working environment.

The fag danglling from the lips was a common sight when smoking at work was allowed.

The nylon overall is made in celon - the British Celanese company's answer to bri-nylon. Brinylon or bri-nylon, spelling varied a lot, was the market leader. Brinylon was made by British Nylon Spinners.

Many women wore a belt as a fashion item rather than for any practical purpose - although an overall large enough to be worn over winter clothing would have been a bit baggy at the waist when worn over summer slothes (or no clothes at all!) so gathering the waist in with a belt would have avoided snagging on hazards.

Almost every working class woman (it was still OK to talk about social classes in the 1960s) in the country wore a black skirt quite frequently and these got cascaded down from best wear to second best to casual to workwear. My working class wife who had got promoted a bit at work and considered herself middle class refued to wear a black skirt on the basis they were "common" - another concept that has disappeared. "Common" people lived in "council estates" and had all sorts of other labels attached to them through no fault of their own. They were, after all, the backbone of industrial Britain and the "salt of the earth". More outdated concepts.

Rubber gloves, especially heavy duty ones such as those depicted, were only just coming into common usage. The art of coating the insides of gloves had not been perfected then so rubber gloves were sweaty and uncomfortable to wear and could make hands more sore than working without them. In fact working people's hands were generally rough in those days - even my mother's hands were coarsened simply from housework and vegetable preparation etc and she didn't work outside the home.

I am not sure how authentic the tights are. I suspect most charwomen worken bare legs or Nora Batty style crinkly stockings!

Mules have been popular footwear for eons, so I reckon those are OK.

The galvanised mop bucket is really only just being replaced by a plastic type. Earlier plastics were probably a bit too brittle. Mop buckets, by and large, have a tougher life that 'ordinary' buckets.

The broom, of course, is timeless in many ways although wooden handled versions are, I tink, disappearing fast.

day 191: In Regards To Myself

today was...a...good...day...which is a change of pace. i got to talk to the university therapist today...which helped alot. I felt great for a few hours afterward...and thats saying something since i slept for about an hour ( I HATE MY ROOMMATE) I think the therapist was shocked about all the stuff i told him (today was a background day) I was completely honest about everything. my rough history was layed out in cold facts recited from a memory that is burned into my brain. I was kind of frustrated that we didnt get to talk about what i came to talk about and that they are so busy that i got put on a waitlist. but it was nice to talk to someone and be completely honest and actually be heard. so far he has been one of about three people at this school who talks to me and not at me.

this was me trying to figure out how to set a long term exposure...i figured out how to do that and change some other stuff too. I was trying to figure that out to take pictures of the metor show...but it was two cloudy to see alot...i ended up seeing about 5 though.

my new best friends...

As a chronic sinusitis sufferer, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to steam and rinse my sinuses daily. It's the only thing that really keeps them clear and healthy. I suck at routines so wish me luck lol.

My new routine will be steaming with the purple attachment for about 10-15 minutes morning and night. (Since I work with dogs it's a must to keep their dander and hair out of my sinuses. It helps with getting out every day irritants like smoke, pollen, etc too. Then I follow with the Sinus Rinse. It comes with solution but I don't use it. I use sea salt and body temp water (warm but not too hot). The solution should taste like a tear & not be too salty to avoid burning. I use about 1/4 tsp of salt to a full bottle of water. The rinse does wonders! It's pretty fun to see all the crap coming out of your nose too :D (Yes I'm weird lol)

I never really realized how much my sinuses affected me until this year. I've been getting one sinus infection after another and it SUCKS. Dirty or blocked sinuses give me headaches, dizziness, nausea, and just an overall lethargic feeling. If you're experiencing any of this on a regular basis and can't figure out why, try cleaning out your sinuses and see if that's the culprit!

I'm on the search for a reasonably priced air purifier too so if you have used one with success, let me know about it!

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Dry Cleaning and Laundry Services in India

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for dry cleaning and laundry services across the states, union territories and cities of India. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across over 5,000 cities in India. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state or union territory and city, latent demand estimates are created for dry cleaning and laundry services. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in India). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for dry cleaning and laundry services in India. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of India. For each state or union territory, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business.
