I had the Lochsa River to listen to when I went to bed and a driftwood fire was fun to sit by as I studied the road atlas, which as well marked with my intended route. My bed was always at the ready in the back of the pickup truck, so no need to carry or set up and take down a tent. Worked out well! The photographs in this set were taken on a two week “road trip” through 11 Western states. My principal destinations planned for this road trip were: Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; Nine Mile Canyon petroglyphs in Utah; Two hikes to cliff dwellings at Road Canyon in the Cedar Mesa country of Utah; Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado; a visit to an Aunt in Texas and with my Mother in Kansas; Oregon Trail wagon ruts near Guernsey, Wyoming and finally Devils Tower in N.E. Wyoming. I was able to see and do all of those things and much, much more with excellent weather almost the entire trip. It was a fun and memorable road trip. I hope you all will enjoy some of the photographs I took along the way. I spent every night but one in the back of my pickup truck (screened windows, reading lights & full comfortable mattress). My old Colorado “Alp” three pound prime goose down sleeping bag came in handy on several nights, when temperatures were below freezing. It's one of my favourite places to be, & on this particular day I stood @ this spot for a half-hour-plus. --------- On the grounds of "Wilhelm Buick Olds Cadillac," at the northeast corner of West Broadway Avenue and North Mandan Street in downtown Bismarck, North Dakota. A abandoned house. There's not any way of knowing why the residents split. They left some Xmas trimmings next to the door. I hope that every body ended up okay. God, or Allah in Arabic, is Divine and Supreme Being and Creator. What the Holy Qur'an says about Jesus: They slew him not, nor did they crucify him but it was made dubious to them. (Holy Qur'an, Surah Nisaa, Verse 157) Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) himself told of the coming of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). In the Bible, Jesus (A.S.) says, If you love me, Keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father and He shall give you another comforter that he may abide with you forever. (Bible, John 14-15/16) But when the comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the spirit of Truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me, and he also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. (Bible, John 15-26/27) I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. How be it when he, the spirit of Truth will come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall speak not of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that he shall speak, and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine, and he shall show it unto you. (Bible, John 16-12/14) Ulema (learned scholars in Islam) have said that the person who is described by Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) to come after him - in the above verse - does not comply with any other person but Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). In this case, the "comforter" he mentions is none other than Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and his laws and way of life (Shariah) and Book (Holy Qur'an) are those that Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) asks his followers to abide by. The "person" whom Jesus (A.S.) prophecised will come after him, is called Pargaleeta in the Bible . This word was deleted by interpreters and translators and changed at times to "Spirit of Truth" and at other times, to "comforter" and sometimes "Holy Spirit." The original Greek and its meaning is "one whom people praise exceedingly." The sense of the word, then, is applicable to the word Muhammad in Arabic, since Muhammad means "the praised one." Jesus (A.S.) also says in the Bible, ... and a little while and you shall not see me; and again a little while, you shall see me because I go to the Father. (Bible, John 16:16) ... and the Holy Qur'an says, And surely they slew him not. But Allah (God) raised him unto Himself. (Holy Qur'an, Surah Nisaa, Verse 157-158) As such, Muslims believe that Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) was raised to heaven. According to Hadith, he is on the second heaven. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam=Peace be upon him) mentioned, "During the Meraj (Ascension), I met Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) on the second heaven. I found him of medium stature, reddish white. His body was so clean and clear, that it appeared as though he had just performed ghusal (ablution, cleansing of the entire body) and come." In another Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) mentioned to the Jews that, " Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) is not dead, he will most surely return to you before Qiyamat (the Day of Judgement)." The people will be preparing for war at the time against Dajjal (the anti-Christ). It will be time for Fajr prayers, and Imam Mahdi will be the Amir (leader). Speed Graphic Focal Plane Shutter I My wife's speed graphic jammed today so I bravely/stupidly thought I would try and fix it. The symptoms were the back/front/trip selector had jammed in the front position. The shutter had closed and you couldn't fire it from the trip on the front either. Here's the mechanism with the top plate taken off. There are six screws to take the top plate off, note that the two bigger ones screw into the top of plate/camera, shown on the left here. The back comes off with 5 wood screws, plus one cunningly hidden behind the ground glass holder, that's tricky to get out. There's also a screw you need to undo to get the back part of the viewfinder sight off. It's handy to take the back off because you can see the rollers and moving them around when you reassemble the shutter is easier. The actual shutter curtain comprises of a long roll of rubbber which is spooled on two rollers at the top and bottom of inside of the camera. The rubbber has different sized slits in it which correspond to the shutter speeds, the smaller the slit the faster the shutter speed. The rubber is wound from the bottom roller onto the top one when you cock the shutter. The bottom roller is tensioned with a spring within the roller. The tensioning adjustment is locked off by the the large screw at the bottom right of this image. The bottom roller spigot pokes out just to the left of the big screw. You can put a small screwdriver in the end of the spigot, turn it anticlockwise to increase the tension. The large semicircular brass bit to the left of the big screw is a govenor for moderating the shutter speed. This engages on a cog which is attached to the bottom roller. If you flick the shutter speed switch to the high speed it disengages the govenor. There are four small brass wood screws which hold this assembly onto the camera body. It's probably a good idea to untension the spring on the bottom roller before undoing these screws. The camera's back in one piece now and no spare screws! Test Roll 1.1 Today I got another roll of film processed from my dad's old camera. I replaced the battery, taped up the broken lens and fired the shutter over and over to make sure it was running smoothly. I'm really happy that most of the photos turned out. There's still a few little issues but overally I'm really pleased. At the very least a custom throw to wrap himself in as he watched the ebbing green light of Daisy's dock. It's too late for Gatsby, but not for you. (13) Chocolate Plaid Pear Cookies with Gold Leaves I took the plaid from the hippos and tried a more sophisticated color combination and added chocolate leaves that were brushed with gold luster dust (dry brushing works far better than a wet application on modelling chocolate). These were done at a magazine's request but they chose a different version (which you will see in March). I still love this one though! Plaid! Tide is out - looking north Looking north from south end of Shi Shi beach. The distant low level of cotton ball clouds are hanging low over Canada's Vancouver Island. The distant black headland is Cape Flattery, the northwest corner of the lower 48. Low tide was at 1 pm when we rounded the corner at Point of the Arches. We spent a full hour having a bite to eat, poking around the tidal pools and enjoying the view, before starting to hike back north and back to the traihead. Here the tide is starting to come back in as we hike north. Sunday night June 14th, 2009 - my wife and I camped in the back of our pickup truck canopy at the “South Beach” camp on Washington’s Pacific Ocean coast. Monday, we drove to Neah Bay, where we took an 8 mile round trip hike from the Makah Indian Reservation trailhead, along Shi Shi beach, to the beach immediately south of the Point of the Arches - - and back. After the Shi Shi Beach hike, we drove back north and took the short, but outstanding, one mile round trip hike to the Cape Flattery & Tatoosh Island overlook. There we saw marine birds and were treated to the sight of a gray whale swimming north through the channel between Tatoosh Island and Cape Flattery. Tuesday, we drove from our “basic” motel room in Neah Bay, back to our home in Eastern Washington, via the Hood Canal route. The back road travel and hiking over the two and half days were really enjoyable. My wife and I both had a great time and especially enjoyed the hikes and the camp at South Beach. Eagle - Strait of Juan de Fuca The American bald eagle, tired of a visit by a raven and my photo taking efforts from the beach - - soared out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A large German container ship (owned by Hapag-Lloyd), is heading into the 100 mile long channel, that separates the United States and Canada. Vancouver Island resides under the distant clouds. When I snapped this photo with my Canon G10 at full telephoto, I had no idea I would be able to see the cargo on deck and read the company name on the side of the ship in the photo.
