Ulingan, Tondo - Allen was our first sponsored kid in Ulingan. Thank you Benny, MH and Raquel (1 of 2) Thanks to the contribution from various friends from around the world, 5 children from the charcoal factory are now sponsored SGD50 a month. This is a miracle and dream comes through as I initially thought no one would care for these charcoal kids. Many felt that the monetary help would not improve their welfare as they still require to work in the hazardous environment. Often, smokey mountain and Ulingan kids were being neglected by donors who prefer a good return of investment from their donation. Initially, I was afraid to ask for help as I assumed a cold shoulder would be what I faced. But a young man, Benny from Indonesia has rejuvenated my faith in God. I found my new faith in God promises again. God gave me the vision in 2005 that I have to claim the promises in countries where the upper portion of the flag is blue and red in the lower portion. I was very much on a religious HIGH PLACE looking down on faceless children who wore black t-shirts with the inscription "Dare to Dream" behind them. Certainly, only Cambodia and Philippines matched the vision. On the Cambodia flag, there is a tall pagoda (temple structure) at the centre and in Philippines I am standing on top of the garbage hill with Malaya Kids Ministries looking down at them. I was on a high place formed by the garbage where the residents need to DREAM big to cling on to the hope of a better future. Many donors are often frightened and disheartened of what they saw. Nobody really know how to help them. Looking at their situation, It is almost impossible to help. But thank God, I know the way. It is about engagement and transformation. It is not about closing down the facilities and evict the people. LOVE will transform them. GOD will be my strength and wisdom. It will come when the charcoal factory would be transformed into a pollution free factory without smoke blocking out the sun. I believe in that. Benny effort also triggered others to join in the effort. Within the same month, we have 2 more sponsors from Vietnam and Brazil joined in at adopted kids from 3 families. We do not want to move too fast but steadily adopting one at a time. If you believe in our mission and wanted to be part of this project, SGD50 (USD40) is what one kid need per month. Malay Kids Ministries, an NGO would oversee the whole project. Remember us in prayers. We want to buy over the place and I am raising SGD200,000 to fulfill that. I know its a bold statement but I know my Lord would not fail me. I will claim the $200,000 personally and use it to transform the place. 62-365 Thankful for color. I had the opportunity to take photos for the Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser "Bowl for Kids Sake" this weekend. Good learning experience for me using my flash and also seeing what my camera could do with a high ISO. When I think of bowling growing up, I think of stinky, smoke-filled, dark places with black bowling balls. Not anymore that is for sure! Lots of color at Mardi Gras! The balls and the carpet and the backdrop behind the pins. Loved it. The event also decorated with ballons and handed out T-shirts in your option of 7 different colors - Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime green, blue and purple. This photo was taken with no post processing. Gold Coast Art Fair I had some time to kill before the euchre tournament yesterday. The chain of events went something like this: I went downtown to Blicks Art Supplies after early service to look for a purple mat, but they hadn't opened yet. I spotted some people with yellow t-shirts advertising the Gold Coast Art Fair in Grant Park, and decided to check it out. If it weren't for the euchre tournament (which I co-won - I'm geeking out like Milhouse), I could have spent all afternoon at this art fair. Maybe, one day I'll be a participant. Day 29/365 "Thats what she said...what y would u say that?" & "I'm getting that Fo' Sho" Today was a GREAT DAY. Pierre and his dad and jake picked up me and my brother and went to the galleria mall where we met up with Valerie and Kyle. So jake and pierre decided to hide in an ice fishing hut at dicks to surprise val and kyle that was funny. Then we walked the mall where jake and pierre decided to skip down the walkway haha then we went to a bunch of stores including spencers which was probably a bad idea going in there with jake lol, then we walked some more, and went and ate lunch in the food court. Then we did more shopping where jake went into hollister and decided to put on a girl sweater and model for us haha. Then jake almost got kicked out of American Eagle because he was trying on girls boots haha then me and val went into a store and the boys decided to hide behind the pillars in the mall where jacob was acting like james bond and this random guy acted like he shot him it was sooooo funny lmao and then as we were walking we walked past these little kids and jake said fuck or something the kids looked at each other like omg he just swore lol After all that we went into jacob and pierres favorite store the RV store and looked at all the RVs which was actually fun haha then we went to the apple store and took all these hilarious pics on the photo booth application. After that we went to the melting pot for dessert which was really good and is where we get that first quote from by pierre lol then we went to best buy and chilled there for a bit then we left kyle and valerie at jc pennys and then we went to the poster store and we went to best buy again cuz pierres dad had to get a tv. Thats when we left where i left with a twilight t-shirt of emmett, a new mayday parade shirt, some aerie lip gloss, the dark knight calender, scary movie and a beatles poster lol After the mall we were jamming to the all-american rejects in the car lol then we chilled at pierres house for a bit then i went home at home i rearranged the posters on my wall to accommodate my new posters and i had to update my sabres wall and now i'm talking to pierre so pic today is at the apple store of (clockwise) Kyle, Pierre, Jacob, Eddie, Me, and Valerie. i was told i looked like i was seducing the camera lol idk u decide. I don't know what it's called, but it's about this girl who puts on a "fat suit" to do an experiment and see how larger people are treated differently than smaller people. Sturgis Motorcyle Museum Sturgis, A Truly One-of-a-Kind Experience In a land where bison once thundered across the prairie, modern-day cowboys rumble over the land on iron horses. Each August, hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists journey to the Mecca of the motorcycling world: Sturgis, South Dakota. The legacy of the Sturgis Rally began in 1938 when J.C. "Pappy" Hoel, a local motorcycle shop owner, and some friends came up with the idea of holding a motorcycle race and stunt competition. The first event consisted of 19 racers at the half-mile track and some dangerous events such as board-wall crashes, ramp jumps and head-on collisions with cars. Local businesses put up the $500 prize money. Every year the event grew as both racers and spectators learned of the event. The races were cancelled for two years during World War II when the war took many young men overseas. After the war, the Sturgis event started to grow as the motorcycling lifestyle gained popularity. One thousand motorcyclists attended the program in the city park during the 1965 rally. By the time the 1980's rolled around, the attendance numbers climbed into the tens of thousands. For the 50th Anniversary in 1990, approximately 400,000 bikers came to celebrate. In 1999, the event drew 275,000 ? 290,000 people from around the world. The biggest rally of all happened in 2000, the 60th Anniversary. Estimated attendance was 550,000 ? 633,000. People who have never attended a motorcycle rally wonder what the event is all about. The Sturgis event is a celebration of motorcycling. Big deal, right? People get together because they like bikes; how is that interesting? Being a motorcycle enthusiast is only part of the equation. Motorcycling is more than a sport and more than a hobby. It's a lifestyle ? a state of mind. For the millions of people around the world who ride, motorcycles represent more than just a means of getting from Point A to Point B. Motorcycles are icons of freedom and individuality. When people gather at a rally, sure they talk shop. But they also break away from the treadmill of everyday life, creating their own Nirvana. So who are these people that flock to Sturgis? Motorcyclists come from all walks of life; there are probably some in your neighborhood. Teachers, doctors, nurses, engineers and social workers, along with countless other professions, are represented at the Rally. Motorcycling is universal ? it transcends countries, genders and economic lines. Sturgis is a special place for motorcyclists. Steeped in history and situated in the scenic Black Hills, it offers more than just a good time. It is a place where motorcyclists can enjoy camaraderie with their friends and freedom on the open road. Riding out to the Badlands, over to Devil's Tower or cruising past Sylvan Lake offers serious scenery and solitude. Of course, a visit to Sturgis would not be complete without a trip down the historic Main Street. Five blocks are open to motorcycle traffic only, creating a sea of bikes and people. Astride their iron horses, people ride up and down the street, seeing the sights and being seen. There are colorful people and bikes ? even one that looks like a buffalo. Vendors selling a vast array of goods line the streets throughout the downtown area. Leather goods, T-shirts and tattoos line up with Internet services, jewelry, bike parts and food. Oh yes, food! For those of you with milder tastes, there are regular burgers and fries, but for the more adventurous, ostrich, alligator and jambalaya tempt the imagination, if not the taste buds. But one bite will quash your apprehensions ? this stuff is good! Racing, the sport that started it all still remains an integral part of the event. Initially, the event began with a half-mile race. There are half-mile races yet today, in both Sturgis and Rapid City. The racing side of the event has expanded to include ADBA drag racing at Sturgis Dragway as well as professional and amateur hillclimbs at Bessie's Knob Hill. Touring was not an original event at the rally, but joined the event line-up within a few years. The first tours departed from Main Street and included everyone that attended the event! These days, tours are still a great way to experience the sites in the Black Hills. The Dark of the Moon tour takes people to Mount Rushmore for the evening lighting ceremony. The annual Governor's Tour brings many dignitaries to Sturgis for a ride to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Your first trip to Sturgis will make your head swim, eyes throb and ears roar. The polymorphic perversity of many of the songs took me by surprise. There was the duet with Cheyenne Mize, "The Girl In Me," that catalogued, in exhausting detail, the extent to which the woman in him loved the man in her. Yes. That was the obvious one. But it was an undercurrent that ran throughout the set. Oldham seems to write songs from an ambiguously gendered perspective, and takes a visible amount of pleasure in tweaking gender, moreso than one would expect from a balding bearded gnome in a plaid shirt & boots. He has the strangest collection of kicks, half-leaps and other odd stage moves. He'd stand stock still & sing, moving only his eyes (so deep-set that they were cast in permanent ghoulish shadow), and then suddenly all his limbs would fly out in different directions. The band was phenomenal. Gtr, upright bass, drums, fiddle, percussion, and Oldham on 2nd guitar about 75% of the time. Equally comfortable working in a sparse oldtime idiom, hushed avant/ambient drone, or giant shambling Crazy Horse rock -- a range covered more than once in the space of a single song, at times. Which seems forced in the case of some bands, but not so here. It was just unambiguously exhilarating. I've been to quite a few shows lately by bands I know more by reputation than by music, in an attempt to surprise myself, I suppose. This was the first one where I felt like the strategy paid off fully, and then some. Created by Brenda Hampton, the series is slightly edgier than Hampton's breakthrough series 7th Heaven. Though controversial in topic, The Secret Life of the American Teenager still is a family drama with a twist of Juno thrown into it. In an adroit bit of casting, 1980s teen queen Molly Ringwald plays Amy's mom, Anne. Loving and supportive (but at times clueless), Anne is preoccupied by her philandering husband. The show tackles a myriad of subjects not often seen in family-oriented programming: broken chastity vows and child abuse. It also touches on the what differentiates a good girl from the class “slut.” The script offers both preachy and snappy dialogue. When Anne tries to rush Amy's younger sister to school, the girl snaps back, “At least I won't be late for my period.” One of the defining elements of the series is that while it clearly does not condone unwed pregnancy, it also doesn't condemn it. By having the stereotypical good girl make a bad choice and wind up pregnant, the series offers the premise that this could happen to anyone, even your Straight-A child wearing a purity ring. The Secret Life of the American Teenager depicts the shame of the pregnant girl, but also offers her hope and options. There's a sweet romance between Amy and Ben (Ken Baumann), who knows she's pregnant by a different boy but loves her anyway. Their verbal exchanges are reminiscent of the dialogue between Angela and Brian from My So-Called Life, except Amy appreciates Ben's adoration. The season finale is designed to leave viewers wondering whether Amy will keep her baby, give it up for adoption or have an abortion. Given that the series originally aired in 2008 on the ABC Family channel, it's a good guess that the latter isn't a viable option. Sizing Chart (7) My Grandpa This is my 89-year old (paternal) grandfather. He just got a computer (a VERY nice one & I'm quite jealous) and what does he do on it? Plays a game where he's hunting prairie dogs. :) You'll notice his walls are bare of any artwork or photos. His furnace messed up and completely covered the inside of his house with soot. The soot went into every single room in the house because of the vents. He called me Saturday and asked me to come up and see if there was anything that I wanted, mostly things that belonged to my grandmother who passed away three years ago. My grandmother, and my great-grandmother, were both packrats. Unfortunately I also have the packrat gene, so of COURSE I wanted to go through everything. :) I got a lot of stuff that's not worth a dime, but means a lot to me because it was hers. :) His house looks ok now. His insurance company sent people up there to clean up the house. They took anything that they could pack up, curtains, art prints, photographs, dishes, clothes, bedding, towels, etc, down to a place near Rome, Georgia, to be cleaned. His house, as you can see in the photo, is bare of everything. When the walls and the flooring and everything is clean, the insurance company will send people in to paint the walls and take care of everything else. 78: Another numbered shirt ;) More numbered t-shirts!
