Geared Up

Geared Up

Well not geared up enough for a Skins win over the Cowboys... so depressing. At least we play them again. Enough of that though....

First of my roll of Arista Premium 400, the 'Tri-X Clone' and my first of two rolls shot two Saturdays ago out in Baltimore with Peter Rice. First and foremost, Peter took us to a great shooting location - a largely abandoned yard next to the Baltimore Streetcar Museum. I shot the whole roll here in about an hour and probably could have stayed longer. For alot of the roll, including this shot I was diligently using my tripod and I think I definitly reaped the benefits with good sharpness here.

As far as my first impressions of Arista Premium 400 it is a mixed bag, starting off with the good - they look great, nice density (just looking at them) and seemingly the same amount of natural contrast (not a whole lot) that TriX has. The bad - I mishandled 2 of the 3 rolls I developed last night as I was rolling them... I'm not going to put it completely on the film just yet. But 3 rolls in a row makes me nervous. I found the undeveloped roll to be slippery, almost wet feeling or sticky and very difficult to roll. I crunched the edges of one roll so bad I had to switch to a patterson tank mid-way, the other two I bent onto the metal reels but one ended up getting exposed to light through my own stupidity. So in conclusion - jury is out. Handling is a pretty big deal for me since I develop all my own but results are great and the cost is less than Tri-X.

Credit to RoA for the bumper design, though there's not much point in credit, has no-one else noticed? We've all perfected the jeeps so much, they all look the same anyway... :D

  • Hub gears or internal-gear hubs are sophisticated gear systems commonly used on bicycles. Hub gear systems generally have a long and largely maintenance-free life though some are not suitable for high-stress use in competitions or hilly, off-road conditions.

  • (Hub Gears) Hub gears have a gearbox built into the rear hub, sealed away from the elements. Gears are engaged and disengaged by a pushrod from the end of the hub. Hub gears are heavier than derailleurs, but need a lot less maintenance and are more forgiving of misuse.

THE HISTORY OF MOUNTAIN BIKING. OF MOUNTAIN BIKING

THE HISTORY OF MOUNTAIN BIKING. WHOLESALE PIT BIKES.

The History Of Mountain Biking

the history of mountain biking

Anjelena, Amazing crossed Khardung La on bycycle , Highest Motorable mountain pass on earth : Trip to Ladakh Valley . www.freakbikrz.com

Khardung La (la means pass in Tibetan) (elevation 18380 ft) is a high mountain pass located in the Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The local pronunciation is "Khardong La" or "Khardzong La," but, as with most names in Ladakh, the romanised spelling varies.

The pass on the Ladakh Range lies north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The Siachen Glacier lies partway up the latter valley. Built in 1976, it was opened to motor vehicles in 1988 and has since seen many automobile, motorbike and mountain biking expeditions. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry essential supplies to the Siachen. Khardong La is historically important as it lies on the major caravan route from Leh to Kashgar in Chinese Central Asia. About 10,000 horses and camels used to take the route annually, and a small population of Bactrian camels can still be seen at Hundar, in the area north of the pass, mute witnesses to history. During World War II there was a futile attempt to transfer war material to China through this route

My first Mountain Bike: 'NEXT 1' (2005)

My first Mountain Bike: 'NEXT 1' (2005)

Specs: NEXT Break Point by Dynacraft: 26", 21 speed Shimano Index Shifting, Dual suspension aluminum frame, Alloy rims & pedals. It is specially equipped with a deluxe gel seat and thick self-sealing inner tubes and vinyl liners that have prevented all flats (flats were previously a daily occurrence).

History: I purchased 'NEXT 1' in the spring of 2005. I have ridden it 3 or 4 miles almost every day since. As of October 2008, 'NEXT 1' has logged nearly 3000 miles. Most of those miles have been along the Heritage Trail in Gilbert, Arizona. 'NEXT 1' is still going strong, but has recently retired to backup duty upon the arrival of 'NEXT 2'.
