The Quod Double has one queen bed. The Quod Four has a double bed and one set of bunk beds. (13) Common Raven- Adult Male Courtship Display Male and female ravens look the same so it is only possible to identify their sex by observing their unique displays and certain vocalizations, although males are larger. Note the iridescent blue-black plumage in bright sunlight, as opposed to the dull, brownish-tinged plumage of the juvenile. The raised "ear" tufts on the head and the flared belly feathers or "pants" hiding his skinny legs and making him look bigger, seem to be a courtship display, as is the stick probably. Dominance displays are somewhat similar except the body and head are held very erect while throat feathers are puffed out with the bill raised in order to make them look bigger. This display would probably not be tolerated if he was in a group of ravens as it could be viewed as a challenge and invite attack by more dominant birds. Less dominant birds are not permitted to display and make significantly fewer vocalizations when in a group. Dominance is determined by size, the largest males being the most dominant. I think the stick thing may be a male behaviour during courtship season as he seemed to intently display it to the female here. Making Lemon Gelato: The Mixture Lemon Gelato Recipe: (Makes about 1 Litre, From Sunbeam Snowy manual) FOLLOW THE MAKING LEMON GELATO PHOTOGRAPHS TO SEE THIS RECIPE BEING MADE. *Note- In these photos I doubled the recipe below 1 cup (250ml) water 1/2 cup (110g) caster sugar 1/4 cup lemon zest 2/3 cup (160ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice 2/3 cup (160ml) thickened cream 1. Place sugar, water, lemon juice and lemon zest in a small saucepan. 2. Stir over a low heat until the sugar dissolves. Bring to the boil and cook for two minutes. Remove from heat, strain mixture and cool to room temprature. Refridgerate for 4-6 hours or overnight. 3. Whisk together the lemon and cream mixture in a jug. 4. Set up and turn on frozen dessert maker according to instructions. The freezer cannister will usually have to be frozen for over 24 hours. 5. Pour mixture into ice cream maker. The manual said that the mixture should be ready when the paddle starts to rotate in the other direction or thicken, but I found when making this that the paddle did not rotate back, so it's okay if it doesn't. 6. After the mixture has thickened, cover it with freezer paper or baking paper place in freezer, for 4 to 6 hours or preferably overnight. 7. Scoop out icecream and enjoy! (18) Tennessee Dairy, Euless, Texas In the early 1920’s Euless farmers began to get into the dairy business. Jersey cows were the primary source of the milk which was taken to Dallas for processing. Since there was no refrigeration, keeping the milk from souring could be a problem. Tennessee Dairies built a plant in Euless in 1927 to collect the milk and cool it for the trip to Dallas. The plant was a wood frame building located near where McDonalds is on Airport Freeway today. Since electricity had not come to Euless the refrigeration system was powered by gasoline engines. Refrigeration by this type system was difficult and the company wanted to replace it with an electric system. The Euless residents also wanted electricity for all of the modern conveniences it could provide. In 1929 Texas Power and Light advised that it would cost $2,500 to bring electricity to Euless. With the help of Tennessee Dairy, the money was quickly raised and electric service to Euless began in September of that year. The local farmers would usually milk their cows twice a day. The milk was stored in 10 gallon cans until the farmer could make a daily trip to the Tennessee Dairy building where the can was empted, washed and returned to the dairyman for the next days milking. Each cow could produce about a gallon of milk a day – about 10 cows had to be milked daily to fill one can. In about 1940 the original wood building was replaced by the brick building in this picture. The Dairy closed in the mid-1950’s and the building was torn down in 1973. Between the time the dairy closed and 1973 the building was used for a variety of enterprises. The Methodist Church can be seen in this photo to the right of the dairy building. Recipe: Choco-Peanut Butter Cups DESCRIPTION Sugar flavor of refrigerated cookie dough can be substituted for peanut butter in these yummy and versatile cookie cups. INGREDIENTS 1 roll (16.5 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated peanut butter cookies 1 cup Hershey®'s premier white baking chips (6 oz) 1 1/2 cups JIF® Creamy Peanut Butter 1 cup Hershey®'s semi-sweet baking chips (6 oz) 4 Nature Valley® oats 'n honey crunchy granola bars (2 pouches from 8.9-oz box), crushed (3/4 cup)* DIRECTIONS 1.Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 24 mini muffin cups with CRISCO® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray, or grease with shortening. Cut cookie dough into 24 slices. Press 1 slice in bottom and up side of each mini muffin cup, forming 1/4-inch rim above top of cup (sprinkle fingers with flour if necessary). Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until edges are deep golden brown. Cool in pans on cooling racks 5 minutes. With tip of handle of wooden spoon, press dough down in center of each cup to make room for 2 tablespoons filling. 2.Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, melt white chips and 3/4 cup of the peanut butter over low heat, stirring constantly. Divide mixture evenly into cookie cups (about 1 tablespoon each). Refrigerate 10 minutes. 3.In same 2-quart saucepan, melt semi-sweet baking chips and remaining 3/4 cup peanut butter over low heat, stirring constantly. Shape mixture into 24 (1-inch) balls. 3.Cut roll of cookie dough into 12 slices. Cut each slice in half crosswise to make 24 pieces; flatten slightly. Shape 1 cookie dough piece around 1 peanut butter ball, covering completely. Repeat with remaining dough and balls. 4.Roll each covered ball in peanut mixture; gently pat mixture completely onto balls. On ungreased large cookie sheets, place balls 2 inches apart. Spray bottom of drinking glass with CRISCO® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray; press into remaining peanut mixture. Flatten each ball to 1/2-inch thickness with bottom of glass. Sprinkle any remaining peanut mixture evenly on tops of cookies; gently press into dough. 5.Bake 7 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Saturday Night Live: The Complete Fourth Season, 1978-1979 SNL:SEASON 4 - DVD Movie The fourth season of Saturday Night Live is a peak year for appearances by most of the iconic characters associated with the original Not-Ready-for-Primetime-Players. Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd are still red-hot as the wild and crazy Festrunk brothers from Czechoslovakia. The Coneheads (Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, and Laraine Newman) treat host Frank Zappa to their alien madness. John Belushi and Buck Henry appear in yet another samurai skit, with Belushi as a sword-wielding, Japanese optometrist. Aykroyd continues to have a hammerlock on Jimmy Carter with insightful impressions of the then-president. Bill Murray and Gilda Radner appear several times as nerds Lisa Loopner and Todd LaBount. Even Belushi's hated Bees turn up in a one-off sketch co-starring Walter Matthau in a The Bad News Bears satire. One of the show's most underrated, recurring sketches--the St. Mickey's Knights of Columbus monthly meeting--occurs several times with a certain warmth and preciseness that suggests they spring from a writer's childhood memories. The fourth season took place at a time before SNL hosts were largely ephemeral celebrities. Thus, sort-of cult figure Buck Henry hosts twice, as does Monty Python's Michael Palin. Perennial favorite (at least during the early years) Elliot Gould hosts once. So do Richard Benjamin, Kate Jackson, Cicely Tyson, Fred Willard, Eric Idle, Matthau, Zappa, and Maureen Stapleton. Rising stars Carrie Fisher and Margot Kidder each host a show, the former game to perform in a sketch inspired by Star Wars, the latter happy to appear as Lois Lane alongside Murray's Superman. Not every episode is brilliant, and the season opener, more or less hosted by the Rolling Stones, is a bit of a train wreck. What stands out are several sketches that are television classics, including Aykroyd's brilliant impression of Julia Child bleeding everywhere in her studio kitchen; the first broadcast performance of Aykroyd and Belushi's Blues Brothers; Garrett Morris singing a Mozart piece at Matthau's request; Aykroyd's weirdly avuncular "Fred Garvin: Male Prostitute;" Paul Shaffer's remarkable impression of rock impresario Don Kirshner; and a Twilight Zone spoof starring Rick Nelson accidentally lost at the Leave It to Beaver residence. Musical guests in season four include the Stones in a rocky performance, Ornette Coleman in an abrasive one, James Taylor doing fine, as do Van Morrison, the Chieftains, the Doobie Brothers, Talking Heads, and the Grateful Dead. The Gould show has two highlights besides the wonderful Christmas edition of the St. Mickey's sketch: Mick Jagger (making up a bit for the earlier Stones fiasco) surprising everyone by joining Peter Tosh in a number, and an appearance by comedy team Bob and Ray. Part of it is the steroids they are pumping into him and part of it is just the fact that hes stuck doing this instead of enjoying life as a young man. IDK what to do for him.
