This fire is so relevant The tiredness settled in my eyes, then around it. Or is it the other way around. I don’t know where I am. I’m looking at myself somewhere in a bathroom mirror. This is the fear I think. You know the way sometimes one says “you” and “I” but you both mean yourself. I won’t be able to hide my confusion today. I cleaned my apartment this morning hoping that it will made me feel better. This is the third night in a row that I could not sleep. I cleaned only part of my apartment. For instance, I cleaned the kitchen tops, but left the floor dirty. That does not make sense. Actually, disinfect is probably a better word than cleaning. I sweat a lot thru the night. All right, now I know where I am. I’m at a gallery coffee shop waiting for her. We met once before at the place. This place makes me think of her. She is sitting at the table waiting for me. She has many friends. But when she spends time with someone she makes sure that that person has undivided attention, switching off her phone for instance. She probably has 50 good friends. Probably I have 5. This is also the way I want it but to a degree it is like her world is much bigger. There is no doubt about it that she is more of a human being as far as the feelings department goes. Looking into her eyes was enough to have me interested. She has a huge emotional palette in her eyes. That is the best way to describe her. After I left I decided that I need to get some sleep before the wedding, it is critical. I will do with the Dormicum now. The pill knocks me out as soon as I stepped shivering out of the shower. I would not have been able to stand another night. I slept for 3 hours then my clock goes off. It feels good to have slept. Going to the wedding I play music in the car. Her X boyfriend was also invited to the wedding and the bride asked me not to invite her. I knew immediately whom the guy is when I see him because he is hearing impaired and carry an instrument behind his ear. He is well build. But the fucker is half deaf and she still preferred him. On the way to the drinks table he almost slipped and laughed at himself. What can I say; he looks like a great guy. I am taking pictures of the bon fire thru the plastic covers of the tent when he walks to me. He does not know who I am. But I’ve been thinking of his X girlfriend all night. He asks what I’m taking pictures of. I’m showing him on the digital camera screen the pictures of the fire. That is all there is. Just pictures of this fire. I haven’t been taken pictures of the bride, the church or the cake. I’ve been taken pictures of this fire and all that I know is, I feel better. I’m recovering in my mind. I don’t know why. It is going to be hell regardless. This fire is so relevant. Sending sandstone. Hi internet! I'm back! Did you miss me? I have a coating of red dirt an inch thick on me, my dog, and most of my belongings. I'm scabbed from tips to elbows. I spent an hour in the shower and i still don't think I'm clean. Six days of sleeping in the dirt. Five days of climbing big, red, rocks. Twenty six hours of driving. Way too much 7-11 food. I think I want to go back. Indian Creek, just outside Moab, Utah. One of the world's premier climbing destinations, the best crack climbing on the planet, and pretty much my idea of paradise. On my list of the top three places I'd rather be, anywhere. Fresh 97 (1997) At 20ft x 10ft, this is the biggest canvas I have painted to date. It was for Fresh ‘97 which was arguably the best hiphop event ever to take place in the UK, at least since the 80’s. I’ll post more images from the event and go into what made it so special in future posts. It was painted free-hanging and I could only get a few steps back from it while working so the first time I got to see it was when it was unrolled at the venue. While I was critiquing it, a unique type of voice rolled out from behind me, “Yo man, that’s tight“. It was Chali 2na from Jurassic 5 who were performing in the UK for the first time. I got on great with them and we had a really good laugh during the event. We took Nu-Mark out to sample the ghetto end of British beer (I arranged a taste test of Tennant’s Super, Special Brew etc so he could compare them to malt liquor over in the States). I had a minor beef with Akil because I dropped, “More like back stage arse than back stage pass” at some groupie he was chatting. “You didn’t have to go there”, he kept saying over and over. He was right, I didn’t have to. But I often did! I was getting some pressure to do a stereotypical hiphop jam crowd scene - classic Mode 2 territory - a bit of a cliche going all the way back to the Mantronik “Needle to the Groove” cover and most likely way before that even. However, I wanted to try to do something a bit different plus having done a site visit, I realised that the crowd would have been so far back from it that the detail would have been lost. Therefore I decided to do big 10ft high figures in a clean, flat style. However, the canvas proportions were wrong so the DJ ended up being relegated to the background which I wasn’t happy about. All the elements are represented though. Kyle regression Kyle sighed as he dutifully mopped up yet another juice spill over in the toddler room. Little more then a giant playpen, the area was roped off by a colorful mesh net. The boy didn’t mind the menial duties, but he did wish his charges could keep the floor (and their pants) dry for at least five minutes. Five minutes. That’s all he was asking. “Ky-ky,” one of the little girls whined, tugging on his pant legs. “Boo-boo,” she said, patting at her pants. “Oh, Alicia,” Kyle groaned, lifting the little rabbit off the ground, keeping her at arm’s length. “I just changed you!” Seeing the child begin to tear up, the teenage raccoon quickly donned a smile and reassured her that it was alright. Alicia was one of the super-sonic screamers…if she started up, she’d wake the whole nursery. After finishing up the odious ordeal, Alicia was in a clean diaper and Kyle was seated on one of the plastic tables, exhausted. He knew the kids liked him, but he had to admit to himself that he was only doing it for the money. School was out and jobs were scarce, and the fact that Sunny Hills Daycare was so close to his house and hiring made this his number one choice for employment. It didn’t hurt that a few of the other ‘sitters’, as they were called, were his age and very hot. Still, this job took a lot out of him, and he was considering quitting. He had let his exhaustion get the better of him at times and had snapped at a few of the kids on occasion. No one minded, (it was within a sitter’s right to be loud) but Kyle knew that it wasn’t the kids fault. Sigh. Suddenly, a cold, chilling sensation raced down Kyle’s back, and the boy shuddered as it startled him. As he did, there was a falling sensation, a popping sound, and disoriented, Kyle allowed himself to slide to the floor in a heap, wondering what the heck had just happened. He was just pulling himself to his feet when he heard a very familiar voice call to him in sing-song. “Ooopsy! Here, kiddo, let me help you there,” it said, and Kyle was astonished to find the voice coming from someone who could have been his mirror image. Same dark, reddish hair, same clear, moss-green eyes. The only difference between them that Kyle could see was that his doppelganger was about five times his size. “Can’t have you laying on the ground…you don’t know what kind of yuckies are living down there!” As Kyle felt himself lifted into the air, he tried to find his tongue to shout for help, but for some strange reason, his voice kept catching, like his mouth was filled with peanut butter. Perhaps sensing his distress, the giant winked at him. “Oh, don’t you worry about that, Ky-ky. Kids your age can’t talk yet! All you have to worry about is playing, getting fed, and keeping your pants dry.” He chuckled. “If you were wearing pants, that is!” The giant set Kyle back on the floor, and despite everything else, his first inclination was to verify the statement. Lifting his shirt, (which was still emblazoned with the Sunny Hills’ logo) a wave of chagrin washed over him as he realized that he wasn’t just pantless, his boxers had somehow morphed into an exact replica of the kind of diaper he had just put on Alicia. Dropping his shirt, Kyle’s eyes darted all over himself, and from the protruding belly, the round, pudgy fingers and the feet that were about the size of his head, he realized that ‘Kyle’ wasn’t a giant…he had gotten younger! “Enjoy it, kiddo. I am you…well, a part of you at least. Believe me when I say you needed this. Think of it as a little vacation…just have fun with it!” ‘Kyle’ winked again. “I promise.” “Wuh…wuh…weal?” Kyle managed to sputter out, around the peanut butter that wasn’t there. “Real? Maybe. Maybe it’s just a dream. But you deserve to see your service in a different light. You’re good for these kids, they like you. Now you’re about to find out why.” The teenager grinned wide and slowly reached for the tot. “They say I know all the good tickle spots…” 171/365:2 /// 259/365 Day 259 -- Today was BlytheCon 2011 in Portland. I had originally planned to go, but then it just never really worked out. So instead of meeting up with lots of Blythe collectors and having a mini-vacation I stayed home with the kids. I intended to take some doll photos, but never got around to it. I'm trying to get a custom baby booties order completed and get more pairs finished for etsy. And even that it taking longer than it should. Especially since Aubrey is much more active these days and crawling everywhere and getting into things. She gets bored in the activity chair, but when she is on the floor crawling around I can't focus on sewing. I got the playpen out today and set it up in the living room. I wasn't planning on using it since it takes up so much space, but we need a place for her to be when we are busy with cooking or cleaning or just other things going on. Not to mention I was hoping she would nap in there since she is really fighting napping in her crib. Fortunately, it did work and she played in there and eventually fell asleep with all her little toys all around her. Red wine into glass Used more than 30 tries to get both the timing and pouring right - had to pour pretty fast to get the wanted effect, and therefore I missed the glass a lot. Used a clean glass for each try since I wanted a picture without a 'dirty' glass. Luckily I had 6 similar glasses, so I only needed to do the dishes 5-6 times, so you can imagine that this shot took a lot of time to get the way I wanted to. By the way; the wine was not drinkable anymore, so no good wine was wasted in the process ;) Colored Glasses IMG 0834 My first attempt at bright field lighting. Red Eddie Bauer t-shirt - Xmas gift Black pleated skirt - remixed Brown knee-highs - probably remixed Nike running shoes - remixed Wore this outfit to Kenmore Camera in Kenmore, WA, to the aforementioned Macy's store, to the Woodinville McLendon Hardware, to a dry cleaning facility to get Dockers altered and a dress shirt laundered, then to Costco, the grocery store, and then home. Not a single comment. Crappy cameraphone pic, of course. Can't wait to replace this phone with a newer one. not art bitumen on roof Our roof is tiled with artificial slates. They are made of some sort of slightly porous ceramic. They are coated with paint when they are new. Since our roof about 25 years old, the paint has disappeared, leaving the slightly pourous roof slates, and quite a lot of moss which has grown on top. Salesmen come to our door to offer roof-painting services. They swear blind that the roof is probably leaking, and that the roof-boarding, metal frame and walls of the house will be damaged. They are probably right. From standing on the roof it seems that the boarding is not as strong as it was - a bit spongey. From the inside, there is still no water getting through, but it will not be long. Since the moss has to be removed first, painting the roof is quite a big job. Another company, the maker of the house, recommended putting another metal roof on top. After surveying the options we found a place that would retile the roof using artificial slates (a rare service these days since so many homes use either ceramic or metal tiles) for about the same price as having it painted. But all the same, that would be a cool $13000 USD. So, partly due to experiences on top of a barn when I was 17, I tried painting a small area of the roof mysefl, with bitumen (as shown above). Special slate paint is on sale, but it is just exterior paint and I agree it would require that the moss be removed. This would involve steam-cleaning the roof, hiring or purchasing a steam cleaner, and a lot of work. Bitumen on the other hand seems to sink into the moss and tiles leaving a not particularly attratctive but seemingly waterproof surface of tar. The other thing is that it is very cheap, only 28 dollars for large bucket sized cans. I think that 4 cans would be sufficient. The special roofing tile paint is 4 times the price. We could paint it on with brooms. So do you think that I should paint my roof with bitumen? If we don't like it we could always have the roof retiled. We kept sliding down the hill and I was stopping him before he landed in the large puddle featured in a few of the recent photos. It was actually closed, well the gates were closed, but there is one path which has no gate, so I figured this meant it was open (for me).
