Bicycle Rim Decals
- A metal or composite ring that is part of the bike wheel and on which the hub with the spokes are attached.
- (decal) either a design that is fixed to some surface or a paper bearing the design which is to be transferred to the surface
- A decal or transfer is a plastic, cloth paper or ceramic substrate that has printed on it a pattern that can be moved to another surface upon contact, usually with the aid of heat or water. The word is short for decalcomania.
- A design prepared on special paper for transfer onto another surface such as glass, porcelain, or metal
- (DeCal) The University of California, Berkeley (also referred to as Cal, California, Berkeley, Cal-Berkeley, and UC Berkeley), is a public research university located in Berkeley, California, United States.
1959 Phillips Manhattan
Quite possibly the prettiest bicycle to parade down my garden path in recent weeks is this pre Raleigh takeover 1959 Phillips Manhattan.
Everything works, lovely and smooth, badges and decals complete....it's even got little glass globe type reflectors in the chromed peddles (something I've not seen before).
Can I presume that due to the shorter than usual head tube, it is a Sports model ?
Frame size is standard 21", rims 26".
I'm presuming the rack is a later addition.
It's also the first genuine two tone paint job I've seen on a 50's Light Roadster type bike....if that is the correct terminology !
Any comments on the Phillips Manhattan marque welcome....I've never seen one before !
See following photo for off/right side view.
