Charter Flights From Gatwick
- A flight by an aircraft chartered for a specific trip, not part of an airline's regular schedule
A charter airline, also sometimes referred to as an air taxi, operates aircraft on a charter basis, that is flights that take place outside normal schedules, by a hiring arrangement with a particular customer.

Spanish Air Accident 19th August 1959
There are some memorials in Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey that remember those that perished in air accidents even though the people did not live in the vicinity.
This one remembers those that were lost when their Douglas Dakota aircraft hit a mountain in bad weather en route from Barcelona to London's Gatwick Airport.
'Flight' magazine dated 28th August 1959 reports:-
On August 19, G-AMZD, a Transair Dakmaster [sic] under inclusive-tour charter to the National Union of Students, crashed near the summit of the Pico del Hombre peak in the Montseny mountains 25 miles north of Barcelona. There were no survivors among the 29 passengers - most of them students - and three crew who were on board.
The accident occurred on a flight to Gatwick just before 1500 hr. Although the weather elsewhere is reported to be good, the mountain which the aircraft struck (about 300 ft. from the summit) was shrouded in mist. G-AMZD had left Barcelona about ten minutes previously and was then at about 5,570 ft. This was Transair's first accident since they started operations in 1947.
'The Times' adds that they had been on holiday in Majorca.

American Trans Air ran regular charter flights across the Atlantic from Gatwick. this fairly plain L1011 was previously with Delta and was sold to ATA in 1985, being retired by them at Roswell in September 2004
