It's clear that by charging €16.50 for a grilled scabbard that they are catering to the tourists who don't bother checking out the local scene. A very similar dish (and better cooked given the reviews I've read about the hotel's rather indifferent dinner service) comes to €9.00 literally across the road at the Alecrim do Monte snack bar.

A half-litre of draught Coral beer beer (the Portuguese can't do beer properly so try the often homemade local vinho instead - cheap, tasty and strong) is €1.50 to €2.50 compared with the €4 they charge in the hotel bar.
