I wrote these letters to the editor below in response to this letter to kgmb editor from Kenneth Conklin This is one I sent to West Hawaii Today In other words, the law of unintended consequences will kick in. If kgmb zoning applies to DHHL lands, less homestead land will be opened up. It will also open up a can of worms, especially since a lot of the DHHL houses are non-conforming or do not comply with county zoning ? Did Mr. Conklin and people supporting this legislation ever contemplate this ? DHHL is currently the only entity building affordable housing in this state.Hence why ill advised legislation imposing kgmb zoning on DHHL land should be rejected. Aaron Stene This is the version I sent to BIW,HIJ, HTH Hawaii County zoning should not apply to DHHL lands. If Hawaii County imposed their zoning regulations on DHHL, it will serious curtail DHHLs ability kgmb be financially self sufficient. Especially since other funding sources are not going to be available forever. In other words, the law of unintended consequences will kick in.
