Lime-coloured Japanese Maple with dark red leaves around it
(Proper names: Acer shirasawanum Koidz. 'Aureum' & Lysimachia ciliata L. 'Firecracker')
I’ve always been a sucker for the combination of lime with dark red or clear blue, so when I made my woodland I just had to buy one of the lime-coloured maples (sorry, don’t know the English name). It was quite expensive, around 60 Euros, maybe more and of cause did I put a huge (it wasn’t that 3 years ago) Laburnum in front of it to the right, the low red-leaved Heuchera surrounding the maple silently creept away to better pastures (i e most died) , the red Cotinus coggygria behind it froze down and had to be swopped – at the moment with Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diablo' , that probably also will take over. On the right side of it is a Helleborus that suddenly decided to explode and increased it’s size four times. There is going to be some heavy rearranging this autumn. The ‘Firecracker’ at the photo looks good, but will also get way to big. Learning by mistakes :). At least the maple still lives and is nicely protected by it’s monster neighbours.
And now (6th of July) it's getting even worse.... The nice little bush on the right side of this pic has also decided that this is an year for explosions. It's a Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' that has always kept within it's borders before - not so now.....
I'll try to add a new pic of 'now' so you can laugh at the total caos....
Maple
Maple wanted something edgy to add to her portfolio and I was more than happy to oblige. We went out back behind my loft into the alley (which is perfect for this shoot) and picked a few settings that worked perfectly for the series.
