The Ostrich, (Struthio camelus), is a large flightless bird native to Africa. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs and the ability to run at maximum speeds of about 70 km/h (45 mph), the top land speed of any bird.
Ostriches generally live in mixed groups, with a dominant male and female as leaders. In the breeding season all females from the group lay their eggs in 1 nest. Sometimes over 80 eggs lie together in that nest! Only the dominant couple will brood the eggs.
