Refashioning

I took two shirts (a long-sleeved polo and a long-sleeved t-shirt) from my college band/wind symphony days and combined them to create one heavier shirt.

I removed the sleeves, made the shirt(s) narrower, and then reattached the sleeves. I used scraps of Liberty fabric to line the placket and underside of the collar.

If I look tired (and I do), it's because I got about five hours of sleep last night. The downside to going to bed after midnight is that when you suddenly wake up at six in the morning, you've hardly even had a chance to sleep!

soldiering on with the self-imposed tee challenge! this t-shirt has a lot of sentimental value for me, since it was the one and only time i've been in the same room with ben folds (i drove over 10 hours to see that show!) . i didn't manage a detail shot, but it has silhouette of mister ben folds and the text reads "rock this bitch" you can imagine how wearing this in my line of work (university library/child care) has proven to be somewhat problematic. later in the day i swapped out the chucks for white flats because i started to feel like they resembled those old school baby booties from far away.

My Mom

9/3/33 - 1/15/07

This photo was taken on my birthday and we celebrated her last birthday two days later. (My son-in-law Cameron was born on my birthday so we were celebrating his as well.) Her cancer had been "inactive" since the previous February but returned in October.

I debated about going to work today but in the end decided it would be best to be busy instead of moping around the house. I got flowers and lots of hugs at work so it was the right thing to do.

For about 10 years I participated in the local Relay for Life cancer benefit and all that time I never guessed it would hit so close to home. My mom walked one lap with me the year before she died, a big smile on her face. She wasn't going to give up without a fight. Her sense of humor remained intake right to the end. When she was in the hospital over Christmas and New Years 2006/2007, she kept the nurses in stitches. One day she needed a procedure and wasn't able to eat or drink after but she could have a cherry popsicle. When she was done, her lips were red and one of her nurses asked if she had put on lipstick. She said yes, that she was a former lipstick model for Revlon and the nurse believed her. We named her Nurse Gullible after that. I told my mom she had to stop picking on the nurses or they would think she was crazy! P1030599

So here's the update folks: I moved about 12 days ago to London, started looking for a place to stay, got myself a new phone number, all that fun stuff. So far, London has been really good to me, and my job there is fantastic. Phenomenal, in fact. Great coworkers, great work, and excellent location.

Anyhoo, I found out pretty soon that my work permit was hitting quite a few roadblocks, meaning I came home yesterday (back to Toronto) to try and get some paperwork sorted. I'm going to be here until the work permit gets approved, so that could be one day, or one month. Who knows? It's a little annoying to be back, and to tell you the truth, I'm quite upset to be here, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

So yup, I'm here in Toronto, so don't come visit me in London just yet. And I apologize for the lack of commenting all that stuff, 2007 has just been a bit crazier than I expected it to be. Hope you're all doing well!

Music Go Music

Music Go Music live at the Ulu. I hate the venue but LOVE the band :) Really sad I didn't see them at Hoxton but this certainly cheered me up, after mucho power outage at their first song Just Me they continue on playing through anthem after anthem of awesome. Sadly the audience and venue proves a shoddy and undeserving place for a band such as Music Go Music, filled with annoying hecklers and bimbo students who are going out for "laughs" (we call it the lulz). Anyway, none of this stopped me from grooving along to them. They played a new song which was once again a cross between their other track Reach Out and Knights of Cydonia (think horse riding). Light of Love and Thousand Crazy Nights were also awesome sauce. Warm In The Shadows was a lovely grooving end to it all. Thanks to Anika for camera smuggling :)

Finished Sleeved B20 Block

Decked the block and sleeves leaving the sleeves 2.5 mils proud of the surrounding deck..

Measured the main bearing tunnels. Were within 1/10 mil of round. Assembled crankshaft into block with original bearings to check alignment. Crank spun freely even though some bearing positions had only 0.8 mil clearance. Obviously, the block was not distorted from the sleeving operation. Will definitely need to increase the bearing clearances.

Had the cylinders bored and honed at Golden Eagle Mfg for 84 mm pistons using 0.0045 inch PTW clearance. Engine has been assembled and runs great. I initially thought the 0.0045 PTW was a source of oil smoke at idle and deceleration due the high manifold vacuum (21 inHg at idle). Turns out it was the turbo which had killed the bearings, turbine seal and turbine because I had put an oil restrictor on it with the previous build in order to reduce oil smoke. I added a crankcase vacuum pump from GZ Motorsports to cure the problem. I can now feed the turbo all the oil it needs without any smoke. Check out the pics of the vacuum pump installation.

Update: Engine is still going strong after beating on it for 18 months with 16 to 18 psi boost and pump gas. It's indestructible at this power level.

Sleeve update!

Hi lovelies!
I hope veryone is okay here! I'm doing better, being busy but alright!
We're going to move out by the end of february, and I'm probably starting working again in march, so it's very exciting but good changes!

My blythe girls have not been getting attention yet, but my real alive girl has ;) Nona is growing sooo fast she's turning 2 in 2 weeks O_O!! She's a little naughty but it's all fun ;)

I wanted to share the progress of my sleeve with you guys! We worked on it for two days this weekend, at the brussels convention! My arm is so sore and swollen, but I'm very happy! Still need one more session to do the upper inner arm, and add some small stuff + background! Probably doing it next month, yay!

I really enjoyed the t-shirt vest I made at Purple Door, and I decided to make a legitimate t-shirt vest. This is an old shirt my brother gave me. I used the ribbing around the neck and the sleeves to make the pockets. The lining is a vintage floral pattern, and I stenciled the flower onto the pocket using the freezer paper method.

I hate the harsh shadow behind the large view of the vest.

I enjoy the design progress seen in these last three uploads.
