Family Tradition

Family Tradition

These cookies (a simple recipe with anise seed from a Grandma Leif ?)...this tradition of the women making, baking, frosting and decorating them...has been in my family for over 100 years. My great grandma grew up doing grandmother mother did.....I did and now Emma does. I remember sitting at my Nana's table every night for a week after supper decorating cookies. My Nana was very particular about how each cookie was decorated and how many of each cookie was placed in each box. My family would give the shirt size wrapped boxes to everyone they knew plus family. That was a lot of people! Not to mention all the cookies that I "required". Now, after doing this for so many years, I understand does Emma already.... why the elder women in my family never ate them. You get pretty sick of them. I still enjoy the "trees" though. They have always been my favorite ones. They just taste better!
