I asked why it was cheaper to buy individual bagels than a 1/2 dozen. I did not get an answer. I think the "regulars" that were behind me getting coffee were getting irritated by my questions. The up side was that I got the 1/2 dozen for $6, no tax or they overcharged me by .01. And my dreams don't stop there. I would LOVE to make it inviting to the hugely diverse culture of the area by having bi or tri-lingual staff on hand. Best of all, I dream of this place being a non-profit operation so that I can make it available to the people who need it most: artists who don't have the means to purchase the expensive equipment they are dying to work with. I would also have benefits for volunteers, teachers, and sponsors. We could also organize craft shows and events where the artists in the community can try to turn a dime on their creations, auction fund raisers, bake sales, and more. My heart skips a beat when I get caught up imagining this bustling center of affordable and accessible creativity. If only I could fall into piles of money so that I could start this place up. Batemans was founded in 1874 by George Bateman, a local farmer who sold his farm in nearby Friskney in order to rent a brewery in Wainfleet, situated by the railway. He bought the brewery equipment for ?505 10s (roughly equivalent to ?30,000 today); a year later he bought the lease for ?800. In 1880 Bateman had earned enough from the business to buy Salem House, a Georgian building some 200 yards from the original brewery, and a new brewery was built in its coach houses. In addition to the brewing, Bateman bottled spirits, and his wife baked bread for sale. "On Fair Day, which was held twice a year, the farmers would come to Salem House to pay for the beer their workers had consumed the previous six months. It was very common for this payment to not be paid in cash, but with meat and potatoes. Once payment had been made, we would invite the farmers into our kitchen for a massive feast. Blushing and simpering in the wings while Hugo was centre stage were his no less useful siblings Elkie, Evie and Ginger. Cathleen, who is rather shy, is peeping out from from behind her sister. Elkie and Ginger are PPTs ...Powered Pallet Trucks. Evie and Cathleen are LLOPs ...Low Level Order Pickers, popularly "lollops". PPTs lead especially strenuous lives and, like Ginger here, are often under repair. At the warehouse of Messrs Damage & Sendit they are the usual means of loading pallets onto lorries. However robustly constructed, there is nothing to save a PPT (or the operator's hip and knee joints) from the injurious effects of being constantly driven from warehouse floors onto loading ramps and off again onto the floors of lorries. They are great fun to drive, especially irresponsibly, and may be abused in various ways. For such small machines they are astonishingly powerful, and a pallet weighing half a ton or so may be simply pushed along the floor if you are too rushed to be able to pause for a few seconds and lift it. PPTs are a frequent cause of accidents in the workplace. LLOPs are, to me, comparatively uninteresting. They can carry two pallets or three cages and are used in most warehouses for assembling, or "picking" orders. In the background of this view we see tote boxes containing old paperwork, which must be retained for six months. On the left a cage containing mail pouches ...276 of them on this occasion. This is company internal mail en route from the various branches to the company's head office in Manchester. They used to send it through the post but sumptuary considerations led to a decision to handle it "in house". "Processing" this mail is a regular weekly sideline for yours truly. You can see my warehouse gloves and clipboard on top. Well, it makes a nice break from the routine. Not sure if still for sale but will take a lot of pocket money to buy her! MSI 483 OUGREE is a 113ft long wooden hulled minesweeper built in 1958 (by the us navy??) for the Belgium Navy. This vessel is totally operational and is ready to go to work,she would make an outstanding dive support vessel or expedition vessel. Ougree is powered by x2 v12 mann turbo diesels 63 litre engines with towing props. She came over in a force 8 from Belgium doing 17knots on one engine so she is capable of well over 25 knots on both. Port engine is now up and running. she was last out the water 7 years ago all good & had new stern glands fitted. She is approx 20 tonnes lighter now due to degaussing and anti mine equipment removed. The galley and below deck is pretty much original, the only modified room is where the anti mine equipment has been removed this is now a large lounge and bar. Electrical power is supported by to inline 6 cylinder 60kva generators pushing 24 volts, also a brand new 25kva diesel genarator suppling 240 volts.everything. Ougree is up and running even down to the Decca radar all in working order. She was going to make a trip down to South Africa but due to a change in circumtances this is not going to happen, shame I was looking forward to the trip... Bell & Howell was Canon's US distributor for a while and their cameras were rebranded under that name for sale in the USA. This is actually the same model as the Canon Dial 35 II, and incorporated a few upgrades over the original Dial model. It has a wind-up clockwork motor inside the cylindrical grip at the bottom which advances the film and rewinds it. Unfortunately this tends to fail eventually, and without it the camera is pretty much useless. The drive on my camera is noisy but (mostly) functional. This was taken with an EF 50/1.8 and my good ol' Canon D30, Canon's first consumer DSLR. My D30 was sitting in a drawer looking lonely, so I decided to give it a little exercise. (Since I took this, the D30 has gone to live with the in-laws.) The present shelter is 15th Century, but the decorative topping of flying buttresses was added in 1852 in emulation of a cross at Chichester. 1st day at the new job If I had a blog, I'd write a long long entry about regretting moving down to LA. I had an extremely comfortable life up in SF- a nice easy well-paying job at a small computer game company, an easy commute (I walked to work), a very pleasant (and purple) condo, I could walk to all of my favorite restaurants and shops. And I gave that all up because...well...I got bored. So, I'm selling my condo, I bought another condo down here in LA, all of my possessions are sitting in boxes here in the living room or the tiny apartment I'm renting until the place I bought is completed, and I took a new job (and a 10% pay cut) at a huge multi-national mega-corporation where I'm totally unfamiliar with most of the technologies used. So far, the best thing I can say is that the people there have been super-friendly. But I struggled most of today getting set up. I don't know if this is because I'm stupid or because things weren't documented very well. I was just talking with a friend how in the 3 years I have been in flickr and in the Blythe comunity, has been an AMAZING source of learning and how things are so competetive that you always have the desire to be better every day. For me when I started uploading my pics I just bareley putted attention on the detail of light and composition. Finally my background is of graphic design and not photography. I admired all the beautifull pictures of the talented custom artists and taught you needed to be a super profesional of photgraphy for your pictures to look nice. One day I decided that if I wanted my pics to be better I needed to invest a little on equipment, because finally photography is the language needed so the world can see your work, and honestly is very flattering and very satisfaying to have a lot of favorites! ;) (because maybe your work is a master piece but if the picture is bad only the ones that see it pyhiscally will know it was! but that?s the minority and everyone wants to receive nice comments on their photstreams) So one of the things that made improve my Blythe pics was this little object I want to talk today. It?s like a umbrella that folds a makes a small house so small objects can be easily photographed, the light passes through softly and it gives you a background ,you can also put a cardboard or fabric behind easily (the mini studio was about 70 usd, I bought it at a photo store but you can also find sets on 3bay and there are even some that come with sets of small lights) I took the pictures of the outside and inside of Peachnor at the same exact time and place so you can see the huge difference! Blythe is so shiny that the mini studio makes her look more softly without the contrasted shades. This mini studio is also usefull for taking pictures of small objects or If you sell online, (in case you are just a person of outside scenarios ...I am just to shy to go carrying a doll in the street, seriously ...LOL) Really, the results with the mini studio are just AMAZING (just look at the lace detail of the dress) and you don?t have to worry about strange objects or textures to appear on your Blythe pictures. (and it folds so it?s practical about space too!) If you think this is too expensive just think all the money you spend on dolls and accesories, but when you see the results of your work you will know it?s tottally worth it! I really think this is a wonderfull hobbie that motivates your creativity, so even if you are someone who doesn?t has an artist background or does it only by pleasure of it think there is never too late to learn new stuff! so don?t feel bad about spending money when this is about being better. Un dia decidi que si queria que mis fotos fueran mejores necesitaria invertir un poco en equipo, porque finalmente la fotografia es el lenguaje visual que el mundo necesita para ver tu trabajo y honestamente es muy halagador y satisfactorio tener muchos favoritos! ;) (a lo mejor tu trabajo es una obra de arte casi mejor que la monalisa pero si solo lo ven unos cuantos a tu alrededor pues es la minoria. pero si la foto no es suficientemente buena el mundo no lo sabra...jejeje) Una de las cosas que compre que me ayudo mucho es este objecto del cual quiero hablar hoy, es un mini studio fotografico que se pliega como una pequena sombrilla o paraguas creando una casita donde se pueden fotografias pequenos objets. La luz pasa de manera suave y te da un fondo, tambien puedes poner detras un papel, cartulina o una tela facilmente (esto me costo alrededor de 70 usd, lo compre en una tienda de foto pero tambien lo puedes buscar en 3bay e incluso hay unos mejores que traen un juego de luces pequenitas con clips) Tome fotos de Peachnor adentro y afuera del mini studio a la misma hora y el ,mismo lugar exacto para que puedas ver la gran diferencia que logra. Beginning in August of 1908, the bridge was completed June 22, 1909 and officially opened on November 1, 1909. It cost a whopping $1,334,525.00 to build. This bridge is still the longest and highest of its kind in the world reaching 5,327.625 feet long (1.6km) and 314 feet high (96 meters). In its time is has been described by some as one of the wonders of the world! This CPR rail line has stood the test of time and is still used today with numerous trains crossing the bridge throughout the day." As for the image. I originally started to do HDR, processing 3 images into one. When I went back to the normally exposed image to work that in to eliminate the train and grass blur I realized that this would look best processed with just the single RAW - normally exposed image. Did some other adjustments in Photoshop and Topaz Adjust. I never intended to take this picture and was not prepared for it other than having my camera equipment with me. Tramping through the tall grasses infested with Mosquitos and of course I had no spray...it made for some quick pictures and then get the heck out of there! radiant what i do when i'm not eating or sleeping. this sits on top of another identical radiant and is used to produce steam to extract the oil from the tar sands. 250 MM BTU/hr and is powered by GE rocket engine (basically). it is fueled by a 6 inch diameter natural gas line which is a by product of extracting the oil, therefore making this somewhat self sufficient. it takes 8 hours to drive from Calgary to Fort McMurray but it takes approximately 4 days for this unit with a police escort through cities, to get to the job site. this radiant is approximately 3/4 of a block long including the trailer. used equipment alberta Platinum Equine Jumps have proven themselves for durability and weather and are being used at horse show grounds and riding academies throughout the United States.
