MOHAWK VALLEY FLORIST - VALLEY FLORIST
Mohawk valley florist - Spring wedding flower arrangements - Wedding flowers cape town
Mohawk Valley Florist
- The Mohawk Valley region of the U.S. state of New York is the area surrounding the Mohawk River, sandwiched between the Adirondack Mountains and Catskill Mountains.
- The Mohawk Valley (Arizona) is a valley in the lower regions of the western Gila River Valley in southwestern Arizona in the western Sonoran Desert.
- The Mohawk River is the largest tributary of the McKenzie River, approximately long, in west central Oregon in the United States. It drains part of the foothills of the Cascade Range on the southeast end of the Willamette Valley northeast of Springfield.
- someone who grows and deals in flowers; "the florist made up an attractive bouquet"
- (floral) resembling or made of or suggestive of flowers; "an unusual floral design"
- a shop where flowers and ornamental plants are sold
- A person who sells and arranges plants and cut flowers
Mohawk Valley, NY
This region, rich in history and bloody battles between English, French, Native Americans, and the colonists is home to the mountains called Big Nose and Little Nose separated by the Mohawk River in upstate New York.
Big Nose, seen here on the far side of the river, was and still is sacred ground for the Turtle Clan of the Iroquois Nation. Before the invasion of European settlers, Native American villages, built with longhouses, dotted the landscape. The valley was home to the upper, middle, and lower Indian Castles.
Iroquois called this mountain range the Turtle. The head of the turtle is what is known today as Big Nose. Sir William Johnson referred to it as “the nose”. An Iroquois native the settlers named Anthony, who had an unusually large nose, was the source of the later name, “Anthony’s Nose”.
Today one can still explore many caves which are scattered throughout this region. Some caves are bottomless. One cave connected Big Nose and Little Nose under the river and was a part of the trail systems used by the natives. Entrance to the tunnel is still evident on Little Nose, but the tunnel itself was demolished during the construction of the Thruway.
Wildlife is abundant. There are deer, wild turkey, bear, coyotes, wolves, rattlesnakes, and birds.
Above the heavy timber area, remnants of abandoned homesteads of white settlers can still be seen today.
There is an amazing amount of water on Big Nose; sinkholes are all over and waterfalls come straight out of rocks on the face of the mountain. It is believed that there is an underground lake just below the earth’s surface.
The area is a paradise for stone hunters, with large deposits of quartz which are very well protected by rattlesnakes.
Below the rim of the mountain, the turkey vulture claims his territory.
Barn Overlooking Mohawk Valley, NY
Standing like a castle alone and desolate in the freshly fallen snow, this barn standing on the northern edge of the Mohawk Valley seemed oblivious to the biting wind and the snow that showed no mercy on this treeless-unsheltered landscape overlooking the valley

Depression
In any given 1-year period, 9.5 percent of the population, or about 18.8 million American adults, suffer from a depressive illness. The economic cost for this disorder is high, but the cost in human suffering cannot be estimated. Depressive illnesses often interfere with normal functioning and cause pain and suffering not only to those who have a disorder, but also to those who care about them. Serious depression can destroy family life as well as the life of the ill person. But much of this suffering is unnecessary.
Depression
Sometimes i lose myselfe in depression. Depression is no illness- it is Persephones call home and a special reminder that something new is coming.
So, take your time, have a cup of coffee, relax... whatever you need! ;)

Lovely Lavendar
Ok, I took the photo really to remind myself what my room looked like before I painted it a new sage green. I think lavendar is lovely but I seem to need a change of scenery every couple of years and painting seems to be the easiest cure. I also made the floral arrangement because being in Florida I no longer get to see lilacs in bloom (which have always been a favorite flower of mine).
Tulip Coffee Table Arrangement
Spring tulips, ranunculus, and some white asters. A neighbor was on the Historic Irvington Neighborhood Home Tour and asked me to do a few floral arrangements for their home. An easy task in such a beautiful setting.

Flower - Madrona Marsh
The Madrona Marsh Preserve, located in Torrance, California, is the last vernal marsh remaining in the South Bay area of Los Angeles and one of few wetlands located within an urban landscape.
Formed eons ago when the mountains of the Palos Verdes Peninsula rose to the south, Madrona Marsh is a shallow depression fed by wet season (spring) storms as the name "vernal" indicates. After the rainy season, evaporation, percolation and transpiration reduce the water depth by about one-quarter of an inch (6 mm) per day. By the end of August, the wetland is dry and remains so until the following rainy season. Situated on land that was set aside for oil production in 1924, Madrona Marsh was never developed—unlike the surrounding city—and remains a valuable natural habitat for birds, reptiles, insects and even small mammals.

Jadai Alangaram
When I was trying to pen a few words on Jadai Alangaram, I did a search in google and I found the following passage in The Little Magazine in a story "Naga Pushpam" by Lakshmi Kannan. I cannot explain Jadai Alangaram better than Lakshmi Kannan. I reproduce the following description of Jadai Alangaram from Lakshmi Kannan's Nagapushpam
"Special days such as Sankranti, Deepavali, Dussehra and Navaratri. The little girls of the household would be dressed in sparkling silk pavadais with matching blouses. The elderly women of the household, that is the mothers, grandmothers or the aunts, would then adorn the girls with ancestral pieces of family jewellery and stand back to fondly admire the loveliness of their efforts. In addition, they would also do a jadai alankaram. They brushed the hair of the girls till it shone, braided it, then decorated it in myriad ways with a variety of flowers — different kinds of jasmine, roses, kanakambaram and of course, the odorous green southern wood, the marukkozhundu. Occasionally, they would also include Nagapushpam, work lovely patterns on it with other flowers. Using a needle and thread, they stitched the flowers over the sword-shaped petals of Nagapushpam. Then, the strong odour of Nagapushpam would easily dominate the rest of the flowers, penetrating the nostrils. It never failed to attract attention."
Now Ready Made Jadai Alangaram is available in the market costing about Rs 150/- . This scene at Koyambedu Market
The Wind Wrapped Around Me and I Felt Pieces of Me Lift Away Like Seeds...
The day was so blustery and misty. The grass and flowers were growing up new, optimistic in the gusting wind. On the way to her home, she passed a small river and watched as the current danced around the gray stones. Tiny fish darted under the surface and soggy leaves skated on the top. The sun peaked through the clouds and hundreds of shining reflections lit up the miniature river. Cool water splashed onto her legs. She turned and walked away from the water, the wind catching her dress and sending it into cascade of current whipping and pulling in the air. She silently continued down the path as her light scarf pulled her along.
She approached the old home. It was large and white with a porch wrapping three of the sides. The white paint was peeling around the windowsills. Stubborn, intrusive ivy vines were trying to take over the surface, swallowing the fading white. Around the foundation of the house, wild rambling roses rose and gave out small sighs of the palest pink. She pushed open the rod iron gate, which squeaked as it swung inward, and started up the path. Turning around on the porch, she looked out over the house's overgrown front lawn and the pale rocks on the lane.
A smile played on her lips as she planned the seeds that would sow her life in this new place. The wind rose again and added its harmony.

The HII regions in Andromeda
Best viewed large.
It was full moon last night in the town of Aix. Difficult to imagine more light pollution for spoiling astrophotography! But why not, as a challenge, try to see the HII regions (Red emission nebulae similar to the nebula of Orion in our galaxy) of Andromeda using a narrow (6nm) Halpha filter?. Surprisingly, they came out really well after 5 subs of 30minutes each.
The processing in this shot blends in equal proportion the Halpha contribution into both the L and R channels used in my previous photo.
The G and B channels have not been modified. The LRGB photos were taken without the moon between 20 and 28 August.
The HII regions are numerous. They appear in red in the outer arms of the galaxy particularly on top of the frame. Is that a remnant of the tidal waves produced by Triangulum galaxy passing by? Does any body know?
Total exposure: 7h20'; 2h20' in L; 2h30 in Halpha; and 50' for each R, G, B filter

A lady, who is an acquaintance of a friend of mine knocked on my door one evening and presented me with this plant that was ready to bloom. She gets on every year from her Aunt in Tahiti. She was a perfect stranger, but she had heard about what I do with flowers and asked me to do my thing with this. It was all stems and big buds when I got it, but some of these blossoms actually span 8 1/2 inches across.
