Took this in an Asian art museum in San Francisco, summer 2004. Not sure what it is but it looks like Buddhist art, just a corner of something. It might even be sideways, but I prefer it this way.
I dunno--I like it, despite the graininess and other technical faults.

Home by the Sea
Creeping up the blind side
Shinning up the wall
Stealing through the dark of the night
Climbing through a window
Stepping to the floor
Checking to the left and the right
Picking up the pieces
Putting them away
Something doesn't feel quite right
Help me someone
Let me out of here
Cos out of the dark was suddenly heard
Welcome to the Home by the Sea
Coming out the woodwork
Through the open door
Pushing from above and below
Shadows with no substance
In the shape of men
Round and down the sideways they go
Adrift without direction
Eyes that hold despair
Then as one they sigh and they moan
Help us someone
Let us out of here
Cos living here so long undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the Home by the Sea
Sit down Sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you
Images of sorrow
Pictures of delight
Things that go to make up a life
Endless days of summer
Longer nights of gloom
Waiting for the morning light
Scenes of unimportance

Things that go to make up a life
Help us someone
Let us out of here
Cos living here so long undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the Home by the Sea
Sit down Sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you

This is my temporary office/home theater. A PowerMac G5 plugged into my HDTV (45" Sharp Aquos at 1920x1080 -- that's 1080p).

US Air Force Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Balad Air Base, Iraq
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin. Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport aircraft. The versatile airframe has found uses in a variety of other roles, including as a gunship (AC-130), for airborne assault, search and rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance, aerial refueling, maritime patrol and aerial firefighting. It is the main tactical airlifter for many military forces worldwide. Over 40 models and variants of the Hercules serve with more than 60 nations.
During its years of service, the Hercules family has participated in countless military, civilian and humanitarian aid operations. The family has the longest continuous production run of any military aircraft in history. In 2007, the C-130 became the fifth aircraft—after the English Electric Canberra, Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, Tupolev Tu-95, and Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker—to mark 50 years of continuous use with its original primary customer, in this case, the United States Air Force. The C-130 is also the only military aircraft to remain in continuous production for 50 years with its original customer, as the updated C-130J Super Hercules.
Design and development
The Korean War, which began in June 1950, showed that World War II-era piston-engine transports—Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcars, Douglas C-47 Skytrains and Curtiss C-46 Commandos—were inadequate for modern warfare. Thus on 2 February 1951, the United States Air Force issued a General Operating Requirement (GOR) for a new transport to Boeing, Douglas, Fairchild, Lockheed, Martin, Chase Aircraft, North American, Northrop, and Airlifts Inc. The new transport would have a capacity for 92 passengers, 72 combat troops or 64 paratroopers in a cargo compartment that is approximately 41 feet (12 m) long, 9 feet (2.7 m) high, and 10 feet (3.0 m) wide. Unlike transports derived from passenger airliners, it was to be designed from the ground-up as a combat transport with loading from a ramp at the rear of the fuselage. This innovation for military cargo aircraft was first pioneered on the WW II German Junkers Ju 252 and Ju 253 "Hercules" transport prototypes in World War II. The Boeing C-97 also had a retracting ramp through clamshell doors, but could not be used for airdrops of cargo.
The Hercules also resembled a larger four-engine brother to the C-123 Provider with a similar wing and cargo ramp layout, that evolved from the Chase XCG-20 Avitruc, in turn, first designed and flown as a cargo glider in 1947. The rear ramp not only makes it possible to drive vehicles onto the plane (also possible with forward ramp on a C-124), but to airdrop or use low-altitude extraction for Sheridan tanks or even dropping improvised "daisy cutter" bombs.
A key feature was the introduction of the T56 turboprop, first developed specifically for the C-130. At the time, the turboprop was a new application of turbine engines that used exhaust gases to turn a shafted propeller, which offered greater range at propeller-driven speeds compared to pure turbojets, which were faster but thirstier. As was the case on helicopters of that era such as the UH-1 Huey, turboshafts produced much more power for their weight than piston engines. Lockheed would subsequently use the same engines and technology in the Lockheed L-188 Electra. That aircraft failed financially in its civilian configuration but was successfully adapted into the Lockheed P-3 Orion maritime patrol and submarine attack aircraft where speed and endurance of turboprops excelled.
The new Lockheed cargo plane design possessed a range of 1,100 nmi (1,300 mi; 2,000 km), takeoff capability from short and unprepared strips, and the ability to fly with one engine shut down. Fairchild, North American, Martin and Northrop declined to participate. The remaining five companies tendered a total of 10 designs: Lockheed two, Boeing one, Chase three, Douglas three, and Airlifts Inc. one. The contest was a close affair between the lighter of the two Lockheed (preliminary project designation L-206) proposals and a four-turboprop Douglas design.
The two YC-130 prototypes; the blunt nose was replaced with radar on later production models
The Lockheed design team was led by Willis Hawkins, starting with a 130 page proposal for the Lockheed L-206. Hall Hibbard, Lockheed vice president and chief engineer, saw the proposal and directed it to Kelly Johnson, who did not care for the low-speed, unarmed aircraft, and remarked, If you sign that letter, you will destroy the Lockheed Company. Both Hibbard and Johnson signed the proposal and the company won the contract for the now-designated Model 82 on 2 July 1951.
The first flight of the YC-130 prototype was made on 23 August 1954 from the Lockheed plant in Burbank, California. The aircraft

Mile 81: Includes bonus story 'The Dune'
Mile 81 is Stand by Me meets Christine—the story of an insatiable car and a heroic kid.At Mile 81 on the Maine Turnpike is a boarded-up rest stop, a place where high school kids drink and get into the kind of trouble high school kids have always gotten into. It’s the place where Pete Simmons, armed only with the magnifying glass he got for his tenth birthday, finds a discarded bottle of vodka in the boarded up burger shack and drinks enough to pass out. Not much later, a mud-covered station wagon (which is strange because there hadn’t been any rain in New England for over a week) veers into the Mile 81 rest area, ignoring the sign that says “closed, no services.” The driver’s door opens but nobody gets out. By the time Pete Simmons wakes up from his vodka nap, there are half a dozen cars at the Mile 81 rest stop. But two kids and a horse are the only living things left...unless you maybe count the wagon. With the heart of Stand By Me and the genius horror of Christine, Mile 81 is Stephen King unleashing his imagination as he drives past one of those road signs. In the bonus story “The Dune,” originally published in Granta’s October 2011 horror issue, retired Florida Supreme Court Judge Harvey Beecher tells his lawyer about a mysterious sand dune on an unnamed island a short distance off the Gulf coastline of his family’s property. Harvey first visited the island at the age of ten in 1932, after his grandfather, a scoundrel and land speculator who’d created the family fortune, told him Blackbeard’s treasure might be buried there. Traveling to the island became a daily addiction for Harvey…and now his lawyer is about to discover the shocking reason why.

13 East 67th Street
Taken from 1998 article:
BARBARA SEARS ROCKEFELLER, known to her friends as Bobo, sat at one of a handful of tables in her dining room, a luxurious raised platform beyond the grandly proportioned drawing room. As she spoke, she tapped her cigarette against the embroidered linen tablecloth. An empty champagne bottle stood on the table in front of her, a short crystal glass beside it. A single white orchid preened in a pot.
Once, the dining room platform -- backed by a stately-home-size fireplace with red marble trim -- was used as a stage by Martin Beck, the Broadway impresario, who commissioned the six-story neo-classical limestone town house in 1921. Mrs. Rockefeller bought the house in 1955, after she split with Winthrop Rockefeller, brother of Nelson. Now 81, she is offering the house, at 13 East 67th Street, for $12 million.
''I've got a Paris flat and I've stayed here too long,'' she said, with a throaty laugh. ''I miss my friends. The people here are not too interesting. Most of my real friends here have died off. I get a little bored.''
And Paris is tempting. ''My Paris flat is within walking distance of the President's palace and all my friends,'' she said. ''I'm going to whip around and have some fun!''
The house is, she conceded, ''a little expensive'' to keep up. There's the houseman, Carlos Tito, and his wife, Cecilia, who live on the ground floor. Then there are the never-ending maintenance expenses; she mentioned the monthly bill for inspecting her elevator (''All they do is squeeze in a little juice'') as particularly annoying.
The house looks much the same now as it did in 1956, after she spent a year redecorating it. It's still furnished grandly, with tapestries, murals, gilded mirrors and down-filled Louis XV sofas. (She said that when she arrived, the walls were painted bright orange, left over from the days when Artists Equity was ensconced there.) There is even a life-size statue of Pan in a niche, purchased from an Upper East Side antique shop named Erlanger's.
''When it was delivered,'' she said, ''my little man had a leaf covering his gadget -- and the leaf was in the wrong place, proportionately. I knew because I painted and sculpted. I called the shop to complain, but they said that all such statues left their shop with leaves. So there's my little Pan -- with his leaf in the wrong spot.'' (Although the house is not being sold furnished, Pan may be negotiable, the agents said.)
While the entertaining rooms are colossal, the upstairs floors are mazes of long hallways with small rooms -- except the 17-by-22-foot master bedroom, which contains an 18th-century Chippendale carved canopy bed that's really king-size. Known as a state bed -- in grand country houses, they were reserved for visiting royalty -- it sits across from a double-deep wood-burning fireplace.
Sandwiched between two guest bedrooms on the fourth floor is a full-size, wood-lined squash court with an 18-foot ceiling. And next to that is an elaborate 1921 nickel-plated shower, with dozens of spray holes in the piping. Mrs. Rockefeller calls it her Robber Baron Shower.
Although she doesn't produce plays the way the original owner did, she has staged her own entertainments in this house -- magnificent soirees.
''I was the first to give a ball in here,'' she said. ''I invited everyone in Europe, and I carried out the trick of asking everyone to wear red and white. I had the orchestra downstairs, and I had it catered, with 12 waiters. It was labeled a success before it even took place: people heard about it and came in red and white, trying to crash.''
The house was designed by Harry Allen Jacobs, who also designed the Friars Club. In his 1979 guidebook, ''The City Observed,'' Paul Goldberger, then the architecture critic of The New York Times, called it ''a grand homage to Palladio (or, to be more precise, to the Palladian follower Serlio).''
Beck, who built the Palace and the Martin Beck theaters, asked the architect to design the first two floors of the town house to imitate a miniature Broadway theater, with a formal reception room on the first floor. Friends -- many of them his financial backers -- climbed to the second floor to be enticed into investing in his shows. Chairs were set up in the 21-by-30-foot double-height living room; the actors performed on the stage. While there is no record of what plays were showcased in the house, or of the logistics of those evenings, the stage could well have been cleared for dining: behind the swinging doors where the actors made their entrances are the kitchen and pantry.
Now, the upstairs guest rooms appear to be empty, and the house -- except the big bedroom -- feels slightly nostalgic and deserted.
''When it was designed, I think the upstairs was of secondary interest,'' Wolf Jakubowski said. He and Al Hewitt, both of Charles H. Greenthal & Company, have listed the property.
''It's a very unusual house, the most unique house I've seen in my
My New King Canopy Bed
After years of wanting to convert my current king rice bed in to a canopy bed I gave up LOL no I bought my old bed about 16 years ago and it really is just getting old. This one we just bought is very similar to my old bed, the new one has more wood work and claw feet , and the canopy. I just love the delicate look of these beds, the new "heavy" over powering bedroom furniture with leather and iron to me is tasteless, I am a girly girl and this is really a grown up girly bed. I can not wait to pick it up Saturday.

love for literature
This is Arya. She likes books. ^.^ Although a geography book is not exactly literature, I thought the title fit...
This was extremely random. I just liked both of these pictures and discovered that they both look nice together. And since I was using Ashley's picnik account, which has Premium, I had to take advantage of that somehow. xD
Is she gonna choose me or him?

Broken iPhone Screen w/ Replacement Glass Digitizer
Finally after 7 months of ownership, my iPhone hit the ground for the FIRST time. Well, you can see what happened to it. Apple wants $300 to fix it (basically replace it). The good thing is, an replacement glass (actually two parts, a digitizer and the glass panel) can be easily found on eBay. It only cost me less than $30 to order it. Far better than what Apple wants for replacing my iPhone glass screen.

Pimp my wagon
I am alternately amused by, affectionate of and slightly embarrased by the
look of the new canopy. It's cute, but so flashy! I feel like I'm
pulling a Conestoga around town. Olive just needs a calico dress and
bonnet. But it is essential with summer practically here.

Still lounging in the chair, if you look to the left of the book shelves, there's a closet followed by a north-facing window. Even in the summer, the north light is cooler than in the rest of the house, but I still appreciate having the plantation shutters to shut out the heat if need be. Plantation shutters are all the rage in Florida, and they really do help to keep the place cool.
