The laser beam trigger from the front. When I get done tweaking it every day I'll put it in an enclosure. No hurry though, it can stand on its own.
Straight forward operation, break mode triggers when the beam is broken and make mode triggers the camera when the beam is established.
The sensitivity adjustments include time averaging (around 100ms response time) to avoid false triggering for low sensitivity (wildlife) mode and a reduced beam threshold detection such that the entire beam must be broken (or 10% beam make) before a trigger is issued. In high sensitivity mode no such averaging is done for maximum response time (13 microseconds) and only a 10% beam break or 90% beam make will trigger the exposure.
There is still work to do -- a programmable delay from trigger detection until trigger issue is needed for the tuning of high-speed photographs. For example, if I want a water splash there ought to be a much longer delay between beam break and trigger issue than if I want to capture a firecracker. I am waiting on my LCD board to arrive before implimenting this, however.
