With nothing but daggers between their lips; with their bare eyes, without any diving equipment, they could scour the farthest, darkest depths of the seas and come back with the most beautiful pearls. But that seems a thing of the past for the Badjaos, who can now be seen scattered throughout the archipelago, many of them thousands of kilometers away from their native Mindanao, begging for alms. Some of them have even reached as far as Baguio City (246 kms. north of Manila), pleading for mercy and a few coins from passersby. They are now a far cry from the proud tribe that they used to be. Long Lunch after The rains came down. it seemed water was pouring from the skies from every direction. Everyone scrambled for cover into the stores and under awnings. Musicians and the sound man dove to cover their equipment because dispite canopies water was everywhere. Aside from that worry everyone was still having a ball talking with each other, lauging and shopping. I was running around in bare feet (like others), getting soaked taking the last of the garbage off the tables. It was so much fun and after the dry summer the rain was still welcome too. A wonderful day enjoyed by all it seems.
