"Miss Matagorda" Makes An Historic Voyage
Percheron, SSI's first liquid fuel rocket, was to be launched from a site on Matagorda Island, Texas owned by investor Toddy Lee Wynn, a Dallas oil company icon. . He had "Miss Matagorda," a unique ship used to ferry equipment and supplies to the island. While other reporters and photographers stood to watch from behind as she left the Rokport docks, I found a spot ahead of her departure and captured this head on shot. Onboard is the rocket and its fuel. SSI Chairman David Hannah Jr and his wife Catherine are seen astern. As a new freelance photographer/writer I was excited to get this one-of-a-kind perspective. I used a Canon AE1 film camera with a Vivitar 70-210 zoom lens. Since I did all my own B&W darkroom work, my preferred film was 400 ASA Kodak Tri X Pan. The picture and story was published in "South Texas Oil People Magazine."

Got this at Don's Used Photo Equipment in Dallas for $300.
Very nice condition, I'm quite happy with it. I've been looking for a real (i.e not a Holga) medium format camera. I was looking at a Rolleiflex on Ebay, but it doubled it's price overnight and became out of my range. I'm currently shooting a roll of FujiChrome 100, and I'll post them when I get them developed/scanned in.
