JVC KD-BT22 Bluetooth Stereo for the 206

JVC KD-BT22 Bluetooth Stereo for the 206

The JVC KD-BT22, previously installed in my Peugeot 405, is a Bluetooth/MP3/USB CD player with external 3.5mm so it basically has everything. No point in keeping the stock Eurovox unit in the 206, so time to swap it out for the JVC.

Turns out the Eurovox unit, installed in Australia before shipping to dealers, uses the ISO standard connector. I found an ISO to JVC adapter which cut down on the crimping needed. However when I tested it I found the accessory and permanent power leads were swapped around, and settings weren't being saved. I swapped these two back to their proper positions, not sure why the OEM installer used an ISO connector but not standard wiring. But still all the speaker connections and everything else were all good. I Had to uprate the fuse in the 206 since the JVC uses 15amp and the fuse block only had a 10amp fuse.

Also, Europe uses a different standard connector for the antenna so I had to get an appropriate adapter.

There was one issue with the installation that I'm not happy about. The 206 stereo has a remote control stalk on the steering wheel. There is no wired remote control input on the JVC, so I've had to forgorthe steering wheel stereo controls. In due course I'll upgrade the head unit to one that supports wired steering column controls.

The JVC does have an infrared remote, but it cannot be steering wheel mounted since the ir signal does not reach the receiver on the unit.

The next stage will be to replace the OEM speakers with the Pioneer 220w speakers currently in the 405. The OEM set sound okay, but the Pioneers are better.
