Here's another true story from the haunted house I grew up in....

One night we were all in sitting around in the living room. Some of us were playing checkers, some were watching television. The blue glow of the huge, cathode-ray black-and-white television filled the room. Mom had finished the dishes from the evening meal [supper, as we called it]. She had turned out the kitchen light and joined the rest of us to relax a bit before bedtime. About a half hour after she came into the living room we heard the biggest commotion coming from the kitchen. It sounded like a cat had jumped on the table [although we didn't own a cat], causing the table to tip over, spilling the salt and pepper shakers, sugar bowl and oil lamp onto the floor... shelves were fallling, spilling cans and jars splattering against the wooden floor... even a box of wooden matches had been knocked open and all the contents of the box were rolling down the tilted shelves, pinging against the floor. Cautiously we went into the kitchen, but when we turned on the light.... not one thing was out of place.... everything was just as clean and orderly as my mom had left it.

The lino was unsalvageable, so now Jason is scraping down to bare wood. The original floor in the kitchen appears to be unfinished Douglas Fir -- they must have put the lino down immediately. No signs of water damage yet. Looks like it will be refinishable, so maybe we'll have a nice wooden floor in our bungalow kitchen!
