w04p best Pattern 1. The location of this photo was taken in my home in the family room. It is a window that faces the west side of our house with an adjacent, enclosed porch. I would have preferred to venture outdoors for my photos, but the limitations of my foot issue deterred me from walking in snow. 2. The challenges I encountered were choosing a pattern photo and the settings on my camera. I contemplated making a pattern, but eventually decided on the window. 3. My choice of orientation was a fairly easy decision. Chapter 6 in our book states that shooting a photo vertically will most often help eliminate clutter and unnecessary distractions. Ironically, in this photo, it was most beneficial to eliminate clutter by taking it horizontally. Plus, I wanted to capture the majority of my pattern which was accomplished by the horizontal position. It is interesting to note that vertical photos tend to signify vitality and active forces, while horizontal photos represent calm and serenity. I think these photos were a little tougher to invoke these types of responses. 4. The problems I encountered with all of my photos was striving for the best shot in regards to lighting, composition and learning all that my camera can or cannot do. I tried taking this photo standing on the carpet and standing on a chair, horizontally and vertically. I chose standing on a chair and horizontally because it was the best shot to eliminate distractions such as other windows in my porch, an unsightly hook hanging from the porch ceiling and the walls of my porch. I really wanted the attention drawn mostly to the beautiful, prism and lead glass pattern in the window. 5. I chose this as my best photo because I thought the prisms in the glass gave an interesting dimension to the porch ceiling. The prisms created a fascinating depth of field with my ceiling that I did not catch until the photo was downloaded onto my computer. The illusion that my porch ceiling goes on forever was really quite interesting to me. Technically, I feel that I captured three assignments in one in this photo. It displays several patterns with squares, triangles and another geometrical shape, but it also presents lines in the window and the ceiling. The smoothness of the glass window and the lead adjoining the prisms gives the illusion of physical texture, but I think would fall in the category of visual texture because of its smooth flat surface. However, I do really like my texture photo which displays a close up shot of a 12 point buck hanging on our wall (I didnt shoot it). You can actually see the bark that is rubbed into its horns and the contrasting coarse hair. On my lines photo, I really like how the snow emphasizes the lines of our neighbors porch and the angle of the snow next to the lattice. Family Room - Window Coverings Yes - Carpet No The family room is complete except for one major detail. The carpets were supposed to go in this week but the %@#$& person who measured them added it up wrong. Now, 2 to 3 more weeks. I painted the floor white for the time being, and we moved the sofa into the room. Costco Home Decorating gets an F- for customer service. Honestly, when I actually had a job, if a customer did not get what he expected from me, I gave him a call. Always. No doubt of it. It might not be comfortable or easy to make that call, but you do it. Then you try really hard not to screw up the next customer. Costco and their in-home services people do not get it. We tried 5 times to reach them about the mis-measurement and have not received a return call. That should know that this is the best way to turn a miffed customer into a dissed customer who will do nasty mean things like spread the word from here to Timbuktu about the lousy customer service at Costco. My guess would be this was Tulsa or Oklahoma City, Oklahoma or Houston, Texas. Can anyone say for sure? OK, I check Mapquest, and there isn't a Chilton Road in OKC or tulsa, but there is one in Houston, It goes near San Felipe, and my parents had an apartment on San Felipe. Can anyone rule in or rule out that Chilton Road had these kind of Street Signs and Light combinations at about the end of WWII? This was taken about 1944 - 1945. Also, I'd like to identify the automobile. Thanks. The child is one of my 2 siblings. The man is Arthur Kaye Dawson and the woman is Ruby Leigh Dyer Dawson. My guess is Ruby and Art drove down to Houston from Tulsa, Oklahoma to see their new grandson. Norwegian National Opera The National Opera House (Nytt Operahus) is an opera house built in the harbour area of Bjorvika, Oslo at a cost of NKr3.3bn. Statsbygg, the Norwegian Directorate of Public Construction and Property, oversaw the project, which has been billed as the biggest boost for culture in Norway since the medieval Nidaros Cathedral was built in Trondheim. With a total cost of £420m, its design won an international competition and was opened by King Harold of Norway in April 2008. The opera house is the first element in the planned transformation of this area of the city. In 2010, the heavy traffic besides the building will be moved into a tunnel under the fjord. Due to its size and aesthetics, the opera house stands apart from other buildings in the area. The marble-clad roofscape forms a large public space in the landscape of the city and the fjord. The opera house includes four sections. The public area, located in the west wing of the building, includes a 1,350-seat horseshoe main auditorium, Scene 2, a rehearsal room and a natural-lit foyer. The stage area constitutes a main stage, an understage, and side and back stages. All the elements of the main stages are moveable and adjustable for different opera needs. The four-storey production section includes workshops, stores, rehearsal rooms, cloakrooms, offices, audition rooms and every facility necessary to produce an opera or ballet. The final section, the large horizontal and sloping white stone roof, remains open to the public. The materials have been carefully chosen for their specific weight, colour, texture and temperature, which are vital for the design. White stone was chosen for the carpet, while timber was used for the wave wall and metal for the factory. About 35,000 Italian marble slabs were used to cover a 25,000m² area, including the roof, forecourt and foyer floor. The ice green-coloured granite stone wraps the north wall and the zone down towards the sea. The foyer has a colossal wall of oak, while most of the main auditorium is also clad in oak. Aluminium sheets with a pattern to display light and shadow cover the production section, stage tower and technical tower. The glass facade also provides luminance over the foyer. To embellish the interior, the opera house has been decorated with crafted woodwork and $12m art works. Hood Ornament This particular hood ornament cost well over $35,000.00 U.S dollars. It's an amazing piece of Art. I highly recommend you seeing this museum if you love old classic cars. Black Hawk California, not to far from Dublin Ca. Black Hawk is a very influential neighborhood. They keep it very dark on the show room floors with low lighting overhead. All the walls have been covered with a middle to dark gray colored carpet. Don't plan on bringing a tripod, they won't allow it. I guess the museum has a contract with a professional photography outfit and they have all rights. You can take flash photography if you like, but it's much better without the flash. You'll have to use a very small aperture lens because like I say, it's somewhat dark on the show room floors. I took this photo with my Minolta Maxxum 8000i Film Camera and I'm scanning the photo in with my HP 5300c ScanJet Scanner. These shots were taken at the Black Hawk Classic Car Museum. This just isn't any kind of car museum, it's all old classic cars. Two story building, housing a full assortment of old classic cars. This is one of the greatest Collections of classic cars brought altogether in one museum in my opinion. I believe the museum shows 100 or more classic cars ever made at any given time. Most of the cars are a permanent resident and every so often they switch some out for different classic cars.
