KPSI, or knots per square inch, is one of the factors used in determining rug quality. It refers to the knot density within one square inch of the rug. From the backside of the carpet, count the number of knots along one inch of the warp (vertical) and one inch along the weft (horizontal). By multiplying these numbers, you arrive at the KPSI. For instance: 12 knots on the warp multiplied by 10 knots on the weft equals a KPSI of 120. New Pak Persian Moghul carpet 2'11 x 4'10 Area Rug with Silk & Wool Pile . Pakistani carpets generally are finely knotted with wool pile and cotton warp and weft threads. Silk is occasionally used in the pile to accentuate certain motifs. The asymmetrical knot is typically used. The domestic wool is of good quality and is readily available. It is resilient, takes dye well, and is easily spun. However, the finest quality carpets are woven with local wool that has been blended with merino wool imported from New Zealand, and Australia. This imported wool is more refined, has a longer staple, and is stronger, yielding a more durable and Iustrous carpet. Two types of weaves are used in Pakistani rugs: the Mori and the Persian weave, in both cases the quality or fineness of the weave depends on the quality of craftmanship. Nevertheless, This Rugs is in an "Excellent Condition" with a uniform pile, static colors, free of any repair work and with all four sides as straight as humanly possible.
