ARE BOLLE SUNGLASSES

The reflection is that of the Y Combinator office getting some office hours in with Harj (one of the partners). We've been working on a new product (feedtopic.com) and have been bouncing it off of our investors and friends. Along with that, we've been building a crazy beta that will be released this Monday.

All the code, meetings, and product development has been awesome. We really need to hustle, and it's exciting. Two weeks worth of coding is really going to pay off. I'm still amazed that it's only been two weeks since we started coding and it's almost done and ready to go.

Brainstorming, discussing, and talking about different routes to go down for hours on end is incredible. I talked to Joe (my co-founder at fanvibe) for about 2 hours about the new product that really went nowhere, but we came out of it at the very end with a really cool idea. Not only that, we knew what this wouldn't become and what we wouldn't do.

A lot of times, we find ourselves bouncing ideas off of people. We show cool things we've built to them. Sometimes you have to give a quick presentation, and sometimes you have to sit back and let the person discover it on their own. Discovering what it is on their own is a very interesting process. You give them a foundation, and in their minds they will figure out how it fits into their lives. By watching and understanding what people think it is, you learn a whole lot. You almost learn more about what to do with the product than by asking: "what don't you like, and what do you like?" If you *just* make what your users want, you're making a mistake. People don't know exactly what they want, and even if they did, they wouldn't be able to tell you what that is right away. You take what they say as a piece of a puzzle. The most important things are to listen to them figure out what your product is out loud, watch them use it, and take hints at what they sort of get excited about and what they're totally confused about. It's fun.

OK, I'm going to get back to coding. I love this life.
