Some scenes from Jane Austens "Persuasion" were filmed in this street.
The design of this street (built in a semi circular style of grand terraced houses) was the idea of a John Wood. Unfortunately he died in 1754 soon after Number 1 was completed, but his son, John Wood the younger, carried on until the project was completed.

The Crescent has 30 houses, with Number 1 now being a museum showing life as it was in Georgian times (when Jane Austen was around). It costs about ?5 to view Number 1 and has many grand rooms with high ceilings, beautiful decor and period items. Each room has a guide in there who is happy to tell you about the room and answer any questions you may have. These guides are very friendly and approachable, have an excellent knowledge of the house and the history and help to make visiting the house much more enjoyable.

Outside is a vast green park which is accessible for picnics or for simply resting and taking in the view of the Crescent.

Definitely worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Bath.

B.P. Beach Pavilion

Going to school of interior decoration and learning all the simple facts about the history of interiors, decoration and layout further objectified this. I learned that i had a knack for decorating and design. That I not only could design but I could explain my design to others and the teachers gave me “A’s for my work in all my classes.
At Pratt I learned to design, why things were the ways they wsere. And most importantly the basic principles of two and three-dimensional design. I learned to draw and the build models and to design a variety of building types and things including furniture, textiles, cloths, etc.
I also learned that it was more than interiors I loved, but building's and there shapes and forms. I could design space both inside and out side space; and, I discovered the art of architecture and design.
Finally, at Yale I learned to think, reason, and rationalize design and programming. I learned to describe and define space, structure and what made building requirements and shape of the buildings.
One of many architects in the twenty first century now are designing and thinking about what I did in the mid twentieth century. For example Madhu Thangavelu – architect and engineer says
“I tend to meditate upon natural and biological forms and processes to find inspiration and metaphors for my work."
I was concerned about the relationships between the body, objects, and space connecting fine art experimentation with development of the ethical imagination in work in the public sphere. In today's world, the designer is charged with reconceptualizing the entire habitable realm toward sustaining the art of living. At various schools, students develop creative design strategies that engage the personal and local, as well as the public and the global environment. For example I designed the Virgin Island Pavilion considering its relationship to the biology and shell structures ON the Island; the contemporary theories of the Universe exhibition structure I designed as a globe containing a ramp down with cosmetology exhibits in words, recording and moving pictures. In 1999 a New York Architect used my design ideas to design a wing of New York’s Museum of Natural History. Planetarium. He was one of visiting design critiques at Yale University. I completed this design at Pratt. I followed relationships of people with there experience in psychic, social and personal stimulus measuring there feelings and intimate relationship of form of there body and the nature surrounding to the form of the building and its interior appurtenances.
I originally gravitated toward architecture because I could study and “do” it. I could “cross the tees and dot the I's. I later took this ability and experience to writing policies and procedures. I found that I could not design house plans and builders decorations because it is chaotic and extemporaneuos. I need something which is studied, deliberate and where I can seek and find the talent latent with in me to bring out the work. In this way architecture and design were fit for my personality. Like wise I discovered that where art and a striving for excellence and soaring to new heights stopped are where the mediocre of the world comes into being. Mediocrity is the result of sloth, laziness and an inane craft, design and planning.
I found my self in the places like Saudi Arabia not called. Rushed, and hassled.

Leghzira (Morocco) - Restaurant decoration

We didn't have much to do in Sidi Ifni so we decided to revisit Leghzira (or legzira) beach although we had been there three years before. It was a very good idea as it was great to see the unbelievable rock arches again and this time I had the crazy idea to return to the town on foot. So we climbed up the cliffs above the arches and enjoyed the fantastic view from a different angle. We also discovered a fourth arch that we didn't know existed at all.

No. 359 Broadway, on the west side of Broadway between Leonard and Franklin streets, is a distinguished early Italianate commercial building constructed in 1852, a time when this section of Broadway was the city's most prestigious shopping area, containing a number of fashionable daguerreotype studios. An important and unusual example of the Italianate style, this stone-fronted commercial building, with its distinctive and varied window openings and abundant ornament, is a blend of Italianate elements from several sources.

The 359 Broadway Building has special historical significance because it was occupied by noted photographer Matthew B. Brady from 1853-59. Brady, one of the most important photographers in American history, was renowned for both his portraits and his numerous photographs of the Civil War which are still the primary visual document of that conflict. As the city expanded northward from the southern tip of Manhattan in the 1840s and 1850s, this area became a prosperous neighborhood of shops, saloons, and photographers devoted to serving the fashionable clientele that made Broadway the city's most distinguished promenade.

Remarkably intact, No. 359 Broadway serves as a significant reminder of the area's glittering past as a premier shopping district and as a home to the studio of one of America's most noted nineteenth-century photographers, Matthew Brady.

The Commercial Transformation of lower Broadway

The unparalleled growth of New York City in the nineteenth century, which led to its emergence as the largest and richest city in the country, was primarily the result of commerce. Following the War of 1812 and the reopening of Atlantic trade routes, and the completion in 1825 of the Erie Canal which connected New York to inland cities, the city grew into the country's major port and trading center. Commercial pressures began to push the city northward beyond the geographical limits of lower Manhattan, and a pattern of rapid development and redevelopment emerged. The city's commercial districts moved into residential areas, replacing older houses with retail establishments, while new residential districts for the wealthy developed still further north on the city's outskirts. Older commercial areas to the south became warehouse and districts.

Following the completion in 1846 of the precedent-setting A.T. Stewart drygoods store (280 Broadway), designed by Joseph Trench and John B. Snook, the section of Broadway north of City Hall rapidly changed into the city's leading commercial district. In the following decades, Broadway between City Hall Park and Madison Square became the major commercial artery of the metropolis.

Stewart's store, an impressive Italianate style "palazzo" executed in stone with cast-iron and glass storefronts, also established the architectural character for much of that development for the rest of the century.

As this area developed into the city's leading business and shopping district, a number of saloons opened on Broadway in the 1840s and 1850s. Because it was a fashionable shopping district catering to women, many of these establishments along this section of Broadway were "ladies' saloons" — restaurants for women — that served the throngs of shoppers in this area. The most notable of the saloons in the neighborhood was Taylor's Saloon, located just to the north of the 359 Broadway Building at No. 365.

Begun as an ice-cream shop and confectionery, Taylor's was praised by city guidebooks as "the largest and most sumptuous (restaurant) in the city or the country."

Taylor's Saloon was a feast for the eyes as well, with an abundance of mirrors, marble, and carved decoration to draw in the three thousand people that the restaurant served on an average weekday. The 359 Broadway Building was erected by owner James Thompson in 1852. Thompson, listed in New York City directories as both a saloon owner and a confectioner, operated a saloon at 359 Broadway until 1860. Thompson's Saloon at 359 Broadway, like Taylor's, served as an enticing establishment for shoppers enjoying another popular Broadway diversion, a visit to the photographer. One of the most famous was located upstairs.

Matthew Brady's studio at 359 Broadway was one of an estimated eighty-six portrait galleries in New York City in 1853; thirty-seven of these were located on Broadway. The avenue was the favored location of daguerrian artists because of its role as a fashionable promenade, and the prospect of a saloon and a photographer in the same building was especially inviting to passing shoppers.

All of the galleries were located on upper floors of buildings and illuminated by skylights essential to indoor portraiture. Ohmygod, I TOTALLY loved Ilhan. Not only was he really fun and knew all sorts of weird things and lived in San Francisco and was Tatar and born in Canada (which made him, like, exotic), he was really good at Photobooth. I, on the other hand, was this plain Jane from the suburbs. And I was so smitten with him that I always felt really shy and awkward around him.

Of course, I didn't know he was gay -- instead I agonized over every little word I said, what I wore, zits (the zit in this picture? I had it like ALL second semester of my freshman year), and despaired that if I did one little thing wrong, it would be all my fault. (Except I did throw up all over the catbox and was kind of annoying in general, but he still liked me. Go figure.) So, I guess, when he came out that awkwardness was lifted a bit, but I must admit -- I had been so in love with him and still love him so much, that I can still get tongue tied around him. It's been 22 years and I still get elated when I hear him on the phone.

But how could I not? He did one of the greatest things EVER:

My freshman year in college, everyone was all excited about Homecoming. The dance brouhaha, all that. I kind of didn't care all that much -- I'm not the best joiner, you could say -- but I had asked a friend to go with me. The morning of the dance he flaked out on me, and I was pissed at him. It was a last minute flake out and I had spent like a whole EIGHT DOLLARS on a ticket and everyone was all excited about the damn thing -- the air on campus was crackling. I remember him being a wuss and me storming out of his dorm room and checking my mailbox. I never got anything, but that day I got hair ribbons from my mom (I was way into ribbons on my ponytail) and a postcard from Ilhan that said he loved me and missed me. I flipped.

I called Ilhan and he said, "What are you doing tonight?"

"It's our stupid homecoming dance, "I said, sourly.

"What's that?" he asked.

"It's a stupid dance where you have to dress up. Do you want to come with me?" I joked, thinking I was being cute.

"Can I call you back?" he said suddenly and hung up; I listened to the dial tone and thought, "Great. That's all I needed on stupid HOMECOMING day."

A few minutes later he called back and said, "Can you pick me up at LAX at 3?"

So somehow he knew I needed him, that I wasn't really joking, and he booked a flight to be there for the dance. I finagled a ride to LAX and he stepped off the plane wearing taped up old Ray Bans and the New York Times. "I hear that if you go to LA you HAVE to wear sunglasses," he said. "I thought these were appropriate." Swoon.

That night, after drinking 99 cent wine coolers and laughing at my roommates' decorating taste, we went to the dance, got our portrait taken (I can post it -- it's a DOOZY) and got engaged. The next morning he got food poisoning plus hungover and threw up at the table at the cheap Chinese restaurant.

Sigh. It's the greatest love story ever told.

Texas

Northern Minnesota seemed like a swamp. It was lush, and full of lakes. You couldn’t see the wild rice because it grew under water (and wasn’t even rice, they said), but there were lots of fish and friendly people. The people of Minnesota had the same accents as the people in the movie “Fargo.”
I had a chat with Arley Benson, the owner of the Lakeview Motel Resort in Crosby. Our room was decorated 50’s style. It was the “Beatnik Room.” Other rooms had other styles, Arley said. His units were on a lake and you could fish or rent a boat and look for wild rice.
“It’s pretty lush around here,” I said. “We like Minnesota.”
“We do too,” he said. “When the glaciers came down through here they left us with some pretty good soil.”
“Yeah, the soil out East is really bad. It’s full of lead and stuff,” I said.
“The industrialization,” he said.
“Yeah,” I agreed.
“Crosby used to be a mining town.”
I found that out the next morning when I went cruising for a cup of coffee and stopped at the Iron Man Cafe and there was a photo on the wall of people in hard hats with flashlights attached in front and their faces were covered with soot. I told the waitress that I’d been a waiter once and she asked me if I wanted a job. She was just kidding but I appreciated the idea of it. It almost sounded kind of wonderful.
I went outside and took a couple of pictures of the hot summer street. It was an old street. Nothing had changed here in about fifty years. The buildings were still made of brick and everybody was in church, or maybe passed out at home, relaxing from the night before.
I was on vacation. I didn’t know what was going on here. Old mining town. Wild rice? We drove straight south.
When we got to Fort Stockton, Texas, a lady at the checkout counter told my wife that she was traveling across America because her sister-in-law had been sliced in the head by an outboard motor on the lake and so her brother, who was driving the boat, committed suicide.
“I’m coping real well with it,” she said. “That’s the nice thing about traveling. It gets your mind off of things.”
That’s the thing about it. You could never find a town like Fort Stockton unless you’re traveling with no destination. It happens by accident, a strip of abandoned concrete block buildings, car dealerships, gas stations, motels and Mexican restaurants, and you think, what a terrible place, until you stop in at the restaurant. Rosa was lovely. She cooked and served us simple Mexican food. There was something here that you couldn’t put your finger on.
We swam in the pool of the Econolodge. There was a cool breeze that rippled across the water and the surface sparkled from the full moon. The sky was a deep cobalt hue, even at night, with the motel lights and the trees radiating through the moonlight and the motel doors glowing turquoise. There was a desert iridescence. Everything hummed. It was like being inside of a refrigerator, or maybe like the world had stopped, the cool breeze blowing and the warm pool water glowing and reflecting light. I took a photo. The Mexican food had settled in our stomachs. There was peace. There was real life radiating through our veins.

Lisbon Presbyterian Manse

The old Presbyterian Manse for the Lisbon area of Howard County is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of Route 144 and Woodbine Road [now Madison Street (JKC, 1995)], facing south.

It is a four bay wide, one room deep, two story high, gabled roof (running east-west) brick (laid in Flemish bond and English garden wall brick bond) structure, laid on a stone foundation with wide brick chimneys inset into its east and west walls. Originally a two story high, two bay wide, one room deep, gabled roof (running north-south) brick (laid in English garden wall brick bond) kitchen with wide brick chimney and first floor cooking fireplace centered into its north wall was located north of the house on its west side. This was later connected to the main house creating an L plan, whose west wall lies flush with the west wall of the house and whose south wall rests side by side with the north wall of the house. The brick work between the kitchen and its connector runs together and its separateness is not discernible while the brick work between the manse and connector is very sharp. The gabled roof (running north-south) meets the gabled roof of the kitchen, creating a single gabled roof and intersecting with the gable roof of the main house.

In the restoration of the house, Mr. and Mrs. Peter McIntosh discovered that the present central rectangular entrance door, flanked by two vertical side lights and surmounted by a three light transom replaced what at one time were two central entrances. In addition the central hall and staircase was discovered to have been a later addition, the original staircase coming down to the northeast corner of the present dining room. In addition, a central dividing wall was discovered which may indicate that the building was at one time a duplex used for the minister and an additional staff or family member of the church. A change of brick on the north facade's exterior further indicates this change in the entrance door, which is flanked by rectangular, thermopane windows with six-over-nine lights, decorated with flat arched brick lintels and wooden sills which were added in the restoration of the house replacing the simple original window frames.

Beneath the first floor west window is an arched brick lintel under which at one time may have been a basement entrance, now bricked in and partially covered by the floor of the one story high, hipped roof, open porch which runs along the entire south elevation. It is supported by four wooden posts held by brackets and two pilasters, also held by brackets, applied to each side of the house's south wall. Two wide granite steps lead to the porch. Four second floor windows, similar to those described, rest above.

The east wall of the house holds two first and second floor rectangular, vertically aligned and proportionally scaled windows, similar to those described. The second floor windows hold six-over-six lights, rather than six-over-nine. Basement vents rest
under the first floor windows while two rectangular attic vents are centered into the roof line.

The west wall holds a single first and second floor window in its north bay similar to those described. Both the north and south elevations feature a fine bull nosed brick cornice. That on the west side of the north elevation has been chipped away to allow for the intersecting gabled roof of the kitchen and-itsconnector, further proof that at one time the kitchen was separated from the house. The attic of the house features 16" tongue and groove floor boards. The small one way attic staircase is located in the southwest corner of the house.

The exposed supporting beams for the kitchen wing's second floor are hand hewn and exposed, revealing the wide random width floors above.

A two story high frame addition has been added to the east side of the north wall of the manse. The east side of the kitchen-connector's gabled roof line extends eastward, creating a salt box effect. In addition a wide shed roofed dormer window has been added to this elevation of this roof line which holds two rectangular, double-hung windows with six-over-six lights. This newly added section of the house holds a first floor family room and bath with second floor hall, guest room and bath.

In the restoration of the interior the exterior brick north wall has been exposed in the upstairs bedroom of the early connector and the bath in the newly constructed addition. See Fig. 2

These features add interest and charm as well as structural information. The newel post of the upstairs indicates the mark where it

After visiting Ephesus in southwestern Turkey, do not miss the opportunity to visit the beautiful mountain village of Sirince.

From the town of Selcuk where Ephesus is situated, a winding road takes you through green countryside to this corner of paradise just eight kilometres away. Surrounded by forest clad hills, the village lies on the south and west slopes of a valley.
Sirince overlooks the Ephesus plain, whose olive groves, orchards, vineyards, and fields of tobacco and cotton stretch to the sea. After 15 or 20 minutes the road from Selcuk rises over a hill and winds down the other side into the village square. Our first objective in coming here was of course to eat! So before looking around Sirince, we headed straight for Artemis Wine House and Restaurant on the hill on the edge of the village. The restaurant is housed in a re-stored building that was formerly the village school and serves homemade wines and delicious food made from local produce. The wonderful views over the village and plain lend their own savour to the food.

Hunger satisfied, it was time to explore Sirince. The main street and square are shaded by great plane trees and lined by shops, coffee houses and restaurants. We sat for a while in the coffee house in the square drinking tea and chatting to the village muhtar (elder) Ali Vurmazdere. He is delighted that Sirince is becoming so popular with visitors, and hopes that tourism will reverse the fortunes of the village. Local inhabitants have been moving away in large numbers in recent years, both for economic reasons and because of problems like their childrn’sc education. The population has fallen from 840 in 1980 to 704 today. Some writers refer to Sirince as Ephesus in the Mountains, asserting. that Sirince - formerly K?rk?nca - was established in the fifth century after alluvion carried down by the Kucuk Menderes River and flooding made the ancient site unfit for habitation. Hearsay relates that the name K?rk?nca was later changed to Cirkince (the Ugly Place) so as to prevent others discovering this beautiful spot and moving here
When governor of izmir Kaz?m Dirik visited the village he was so charmed with K?rk?nca that he altered the name to Sirince (Charming Place).

The narrow stone streets are full of picturesque shops selling lace and other handicrafts made by local women. There are also stalls selling homemade soap and the local wines for which Sirince is renowned. Tobacco, olives, and peaches are also grown in the area, and tourism is becoming another important part of the local economy.
As we climbed up through the village, which rises on the slopes on either side of the river, we were fascinated by the old houses along the narrow streets. Sirince is one of the few places in Turkey to have preserved its 19th century texture intact. The ground and first floors are built of rubble stone and the second floors of lathe and plaster. The upper floors, which oversail the lower, contain the living spaces, while the ground floors consist of store rooms and stables. The window frames and eaves are decorated with flower, bird and leaf motifs. Handmade lace curtains hang at the windows.

Oleanders and other colourful flowers and shrubs grow luxuriantly in the gardens on either side of the lanes.Some of the houses have been restored and turned into pensions for over-night guests, so it is now possible to make Sirince a base for exploring the region. Sirince is within easy reach not only of Ephesus but other ancient cities like Priene, Miletus and Didyma.
Sirince is a place where visitors who want to get away from the beaten tourist track can enjoy the authentic village atmosphere, waking to the call of the cockerels, and participating in traditional harvest festivities in the vineyards and olive groves,’ he explained. Several local people have set up small restaurants in their gardens, some specialising in gozleme, a griddle bread with various fillings. It is unthinkable to leave Sirince without tasting this simple but delicious dish. e from the early 19th century.

You can watch the dough being rolled out, being filled with cheese, auber - gines, mushrooms or minced meat, and then cooked on the griddle over a wood fire. Accom - panied by a drink of cold ayran (yogurt beaten with water) it makes a wonderful meal.

Square Christmas cake decorated with stars

One of my most treasured books is Nigella Lawson’s How To Be A Domestic Goddess. Sadly, I am not one but do my very best to try at Christmas when, in the weeks before, I make a Christmas cake or two, umpteen mince pies and in the weeks or months following, a Christmas pudding for the following year.

I start playing carols around my mother’s birthday which falls on 26th November and start measuring alcohol, weighing out fruit and giving my largest cake pan a good clean.

Lots of things about Christmas are dreams, illusionary or just sheer fantasy (but let’s not start on dismantling the Nativity or goodwill toward men) – however, a most fabulous way to bridge the gap between that fantasy and reality is the realisation of years of baking traditions in the kitchen; not just the eating but the sights, smells and comfort in knowing that these things we’ve had passed on to us, we are, in turn, passing on to others.

Only this year did I realise how international a Christmas cake really is. Over the years, I’ve taken from Nigella, Delia Smith and my mother’s own recipe for both cake and pudding. The rum, the vine fruits, the citrus, the spices… And then I began to think how my own internationalism had impacted on the list of ingredients I’d just written down for a jaunt to the shops. Sure, the grated carrot is my Mum’s own addition but the grated apple came from growing up in Dorset and baking with a neighbour who, if cut in half, would have DORSET written through her like the proverbial stick of rock. The maple extract is the result of my love for all things American (the country of the United States of America as well as my darling sister in law) along with the pecans and dried cranberries. The rolled oats and whisky I attribute to living half of my adult life here in Scotland.

Here goes…

You will need:

•400g Californian raisins
•100g currants
•100g sultanas
•100g candied peel (buy whole and chop yourself)
•100g dried goji berries
•100g dried cranberries
•100g chopped and pitted prunes
•100g glace cherries
•1 English breakfast tea teabag
•150g chopped pecans
•200ml rum
•100ml stout
•100ml good red wine
•300g Guernsey butter
•180g dark brown sugar
•zest of one (unwaxed) lemon
•zest of one orange
•1 small carrot (grated)
•1 small cooking apple (grated)
•4 large eggs
•1 tablespoon black treacle
•1 tablespoon Seville orange marmalade
•1 teaspoon almond extract
•1 teaspoon maple extract
•1 teaspoon vanilla extract
•300g plain flour
•100g rolled oats
•50g ground almonds
•half a teaspoon ground cloves
•1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
•1 teaspoon mixed spice
•1 teaspoon ground ginger
•1 23cm round or 20cm square tin.

Don’t fret over this extraordinarily long list of ingredients. Embrace it. Drink the rest of the stout from the opened bottle along with the red wine and the rum’s not going to go off.

I should also add to the list of ingredients a couple of tablespoons of whisky and of brandy but this comes after the cooking.

1. Place all the dried fruit in a saucepan with the teabag (I use my pressure cooker) and add the rum, stout and red wine. Put the lid on and if using a pressure cooker, bring to pressure or, if not, just to a boil and then, leaving the lid on, turn the heat off. Leave the fruits to steep overnight.
2. The next day, take out and discard the teabag. Preheat your oven to 150?c/gas mark 2 and prepare your tin with a double thickness of baking parchment coming at least five centimetres proud of the tin. Wrap some foil around the outside of the tin ensuring that this is 50% taller than the tin itself.
3. Cream the butter and sugar together, then beat in the orange and lemon zest.
4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Next, beat in the treacle and marmalade followed by the vanilla, maple and almond extracts.
5. Sift the dry ingredients (flour, rolled oats and ground almonds) together, then mix the soaked fruit along with the grated apple and carrot, alternately with the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, combining thoroughly. Fold in the chopped pecans.
6. Put the cake mix into the prepared tin and bake in the centre of the oven for two and three quarter hours, after which, check to see if it’s cooked by driving a skewer into the centre of the cake and seeing if it comes out clean. If it does not, return it to the oven, turning some of the foil down over the cake to stop it burning. Check again after another ten minutes and so on until it’s cooked. It should need no more than an additional half an hour.
7. When the cake is cooked, drizzle a tablespoon of brandy and one of whisky over the top. Wrap immediately in its tin – using a double thickness of tin foil – as this will trap the heat and form steam which in turn will keep the cake nice and soft on top.
8. When it’s completely cold, remove the cake from the tin and rewrap; first in greaseproof, then in foil. Store in an airtight tin or Tupperware for at least three weeks to improve the flavour adding

My suggestion for your Sunday Lunch: Pasta with Prawns in a creamy Wine-Sauce; Have a Happy Sunday

You need to have:
Olive Oil, White Wine, 500ml fluid Cream (not Sour Cream), Pasta (preferably Bavette, Spaghetti or Tagliatelle), Parsly, 2 or 3 gloves of Garlic, 1 dried Chilly Pepper, 1 Onion, Salt and Pepper
How to cook it:
-Chop the Onion, Garlic and Parsly very fine
-put Olive Oil in a pan and heat it up
-add the Onion, Garlic and the Chilly-Pepper
-cook until glassy
-add 250ml White Wine
-cook and reduce it
-add the 500ml fluid Cream, cook it until reduced
-in the meanwhile cook the pasta, put the pasta in boiling (!) salted water and cook it until "Al Dente" (meaning they are not suppose to be soft cooked)..
-add the prawns and most of the Parsly to the sauce and cook it together for no more than 5min
-mix the sauce with the prawns and pasta
-serve everything and decorate with the left overs of the parsly
-serve with a glas of white wine

Mini Tree!

Crappy picture, didn't feel like getting my camera so I just used my iPod, I finally decorated my christmas tree, both actually this is the one thats in my room, I'll upload a picture of the big one later on next month! I was extremely lazy decorating the mini one, it took three maybe four hours to decorate the big tree so I didn't feel like decorating anymore! My tree looks odd, just be nice and keep your laughs to yourself, you don't want to hurt its feeling!

Wow, just one more day left, honestly its about, after about day fifteen I started running out of facts and it took me at least ten maybe fifteen minutes everyday to think of one! Okay, so I'm a pretty honest person about most thing but I'm usually not to open about personal things, like if someone ask me if my parents are still together I have no problem saying no they aren't, but when it comes to more personal things I don't open up, and when I get close to people I just start to push them away, so thats something more personal for a fact today, but about the honest part, I don't get why people make up stories, especially on flickr, like if someone says something then the next day they change their whole life storie, why post things about your life that you don't want people to know about then change them, seriously people are gonna catch on sooner or later, I personally would never lie to uins since I have nothing to lie about and I would never make up stories and tell them to uins and I'm not the type of person who does that, and why lie to people you don't know, and will probably never meet, its like that stealing pictures, one day you upload something you stole the next day something you took, you can tell the diffence especially when theres a quaility differnce, I'm just trying to find a reason why people do these things... I tied things together so perfectly(no not really, It only makes a little sense)Okay so I wanna do one of those personal url thingys but I have no clue what to use, any ideas!? this is one of my christmas tree ornaments. we decorated the tree today.

ornaments are a big tradition in my family.
ever since i was born ive gotten one every year, and so has my sister, and the rest of my family.
we both have our themes, mine is disney, and hers is the barbie collectors. the year i got spopngebob i didn't go with my theme. the idea behind it is that when we move out on our own we'll already have a lot of ornaments for our own tree. i have a picture of my ornaments in the comments. the nemo one in front is this years. each ornament tells a story, about what i liked that year.
for instance, i got this ornament my freshmen year. also my first year in the high school marching band were i met this boy who made me watch the nightmare before christmas and i fell in love with the movie. it just so happened that that year hallmark had this ornament. i just had to have it.
every year, we take them out of the boxes, and put them in order by year. also because our ornaments arent all kinda the same or follow any pattern, our tree always looks kinda funky. which i love!
its probably my favorite part of christmas.

this picture was taken with one of my film camera lenses wich is why i got good bokeh.
it was so hard to use it when i can't put it on my camera.
i can't wait to get my 50mm for christmas!

Rehearsal Dinner Mark

A rehearsal dinner was held the night before mine and Jim's wedding at the Old English Inn in Decatur, Georgia. The young man who played the organ for my wedding is seen on the far left. He didn't know anybody there. It was a large conglomerate of my family/friends and Jim's family/friends. Jim's mother's relatives had come down from Virginia for the wedding. Since they were staying at this motel, they also attended the rehearsal dinner. Once again, Jim and I were our own photographers.

Photo taken on June 27, 1975 using Nikkormatt 35mm camera. We had the wide angle (28mm) on the camera that night. It captured lots of people in one shot. Hey, printing film is expensive.

AVIATORS - BLACK TRAILBLAZER

Eugene Bullard (9 October 1894 – 12 October 1961) was the first African-American military pilot.

Biography

He was born Eugene Jacques Bullard in Columbus, Georgia, in the United States. His father was known as "Big Chief Ox" and his mother was a Creek Indian; together, they had ten children. Bullard stowed away on a ship bound for Scotland to escape racial discrimination (he later claimed to have had witnessed his father's narrow escape from lynching as a child).

While in the United Kingdom he worked as a boxer and also worked in a music hall. On a trip to Paris he decided to stay and joined the French Foreign Legion upon the outbreak of World War I in 1914. Wounded in the 1916 battles around Verdun and awarded the Croix de Guerre, Bullard transferred to the Lafayette Flying Corps in the French Aeronautique Militaire and was eventually assigned to SPA 93 on 27 August 1917, where he flew some 20 missions and shot down two enemy aircraft (one of them unconfirmed).[1]

With the entry of the United States into the war the US Army Air Service convened a medical board in August 1917 for the purpose of recruiting Americans serving in the Lafayette Flying Corps. Although he passed the medical examination, Bullard was not accepted into American service because blacks were barred from flying in U.S. service at that time. Bullard was discharged from the French Air Force after fighting with another officer while off-duty and was transferred to the 170th (French) Infantry Regiment on January 11, 1918, where he served until the Armistice.

Following the end of the war, Bullard remained in Paris. He began working in nightclubs and eventually owned his own establishment. He married the daughter of a French countess, but the marriage soon ended in divorce, with Bullard taking custody of their two daughters. His work in nightclubs brought him many famous friends, among them Josephine Baker, Louis Armstrong and Langston Hughes. At the outbreak of World War II in 1939, Bullard, who spoke German, readily agreed to a request from the French to spy on German agents frequenting his club in Paris.

After the German invasion of the French Third Republic in 1940, Bullard took his daughters and fled south from Paris. In Orleans he joined a group of soldiers defending the city and suffered a spinal wound in the fighting. He was helped to flee to Spain by a French spy, and in July 1940 he returned to the United States.

Bullard spent some time in a hospital in New York for his spinal injury, but he never fully recovered. During and after World War II, when seeking work in the United States, he found that the fame he enjoyed in France had not followed him to New York. He worked in a variety of occupations, as a perfume salesman, a security guard, and as an interpreter for Louis Armstrong, but his back injury severely restricted his activities. For a time he attempted to regain his nightclub in Paris, but his property had been destroyed during the Nazi occupation, and he received a financial settlement from the French government which allowed him to purchase an apartment in New York’s Harlem district.

In the 1950s, Bullard was a relative stranger in his own homeland. His daughters had married, and he lived alone in his apartment, which was decorated with pictures of the famous people he had known, and with a framed case containing his 15 French war medals. His final job was as an elevator operator at the Rockefeller Center, where his fame as the “Black Swallow of Death” was unknown.

In 1954, the French government invited Bullard to Paris to rekindle (together with two Frenchmen) the everlasting flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe, and in 1959 he was made a chevalier (knight) of the Legion d'honneur. Even so, he spent the last years of his life in relative obscurity and poverty in New York City where he died of stomach cancer on October 12, 1961. He was buried with military honors by French officers in the French War Veterans' section of Flushing Cemetery in the New York City borough of Queens.

In 1972, his exploits as a pilot were published in the book The Black Swallow of Death: The Incredible Story of Eugene Jacques Bullard, The World's First Black Combat Aviator by P.J. Carisella, James W. Ryan and Edward W. Brooke (Marlborough House, 1972). On 23 August 1994, 33 years after his death, and 77 years to the day after his rejection for U.S. military service in 1917, Eugene Bullard was posthumously commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

In 2006, the movie Flyboys loosely portrayed Bullard and his comrades from the Lafayette Flying Corps. Abdul Salis portrays Eugene Skinner, the character based on Bullard.

The Phi Phi Islands (Thai: ????????????) are located in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the western Andaman Sea coast of the mainland. Phi Phi Don, the larger and principal of the two Phi Phi islands, is located at 7°44?00?N 98°46?00?E. Both Phi Phi Don, and Phi Phi Leh, the smaller, are administratively part of Krabi province, most of which is on the mainland, and is located at 8°02?30?N 98°48?39?E.
Ko Phi Phi Don ("ko" (Thai: ????) meaning "island" in the Thai language) is the largest island of the group, and is the only island with permanent inhabitants, although the beaches of the second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Lee (or "Ko Phi Phi Leh"), are visited by many people as well. There are no accommodation facilities on this island, but it is just a short boat ride from Ko Phi Phi Don. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island, are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea.
Phi Phi Don was initially populated by Muslim fishermen during the late 1940s, and later became a coconut plantation. The Thai population of Phi Phi Don remains more than 80% Muslim.But the actual population if counting laborers, especially from the north-east, from the mainland is much more Buddhist these days.
Ko Phi Phi Leh was the backdrop for the 2000 movie The Beach. Phi Phi Leh also houses the 'Viking Cave', from which there is a thriving bird's nest soup industry. There was criticism during filming of 'The Beach' that the permission granted to the film company to physically alter the environment inside Phi Phi Islands National Park was illegal. [1] The controversy cooled down however, when it was discovered that the producers had done such a decent job of restoring the place that it finally looked better than it had done before.
Following the release of The Beach, tourism on Phi Phi Don increased dramatically, and with it the population of the island. Many buildings were constructed without planning permission.[citation needed]
Ko Phi Phi was devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, when nearly all of the island's infrastructure was wiped out. Redevelopment has, however, been swift, and services like electricity, water, Internet access and ATMs are up and running again, but waste handling has been slower to come back online.

From archaeological discoveries, it is believed that the area was one of the oldest communities in Thailand dating back to the prehistoric period. It is believed that this province may have taken its name after the meaning of Krabi, which means sword. This may have stemmed from a legend that an ancient sword was unearthed prior to the city’s founding.
The name Phi Phi (pronounced ‘pee pee’) originates from Malay, the original name for the islands were ‘Pulao Pi ah Pi. The name refers to the mangrove wood found there. They were incorporated into the national park in 1983.

Ko Phi Phi is considered to be one of the most naturally beautiful islands in the world (in fact, there are six islands in Phi Phi). They lie 50km south-east of Phuket and are part of Hadnopparattara-Koh Phi Phi National Park which is home to an abundance of corals and amazing marine life. There are limestone mountains with cliffs, caves and long white sandy beaches. The national park covers a total area of 242,437 Rai. Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le are the largest and most well-known islands. Phi Phi Don is 28 sqm: 8 meters in length and 3.5 meters wide. Phi Phi Le is 6.6 sqm

Koh Phi Phi comprises 6 islands, 2 of them main – Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le. On Koh Phi Phi there are 2 villages and under administration of Ao Nang sub-district, Muang district, Krabi Province. The islands are surrounded by the Andaman Sea.

Weather in the region is tropical - there are only two seasons: the hot season from January to April, and the rainy season from May to December. Temperatures during the year average 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 89.6°F) and the yearly rainfall averages 2568.5mm. The rain in this region comes down heavily over short periods.

Diving & Snorkeling Ko Phi Phi is a popular place in Thailand for diving and snorkeling. There are plenty of excellent sites with crystal clear water and colourful coral. There are dozens of places on the island organizing trips. There are numerous operators and dive shops open on Koh Phi Phi catering too all levels of divers. The area is well-known for its coral and one of the most favoured dive and snorkeling destinations in Thailand.
Kayaking Many tourists use a kayak to see the natural environs and the island’s impressive features.
Cliff Jumping Cliff jumping is fairly new to Tonsai Bay. There are cliffs from 6 to 16m that are ideal for cliff jumping due to the depth of water below.
Bird Watching Many rare birds are to be seen there: Gurneys, Finfoots, Bigwinged Brown Kingfishers, Egrets, Bitterns, Herons and more.
