Well my trip to Wyoming didn’t go quite as expected. Good thing I had a backup plan. Left with an extra day before I had to start home I ventured into Teton National Park. After a couple short hikes I decided to use the opportunity to get some unique pictures of Heidi. I found a vacant parking area (difficult to do at this time of the year) and did the transforming. I had a difficult time trying to do the makeup in my rearview mirror. While working on it a truck parked nearby and a man got out and walked down the trail with his daughter. I had turned away until he left and then resumed applying the makeup. When they returned, I realized the wife had been sitting in the front seat the whole time.

Anyways, when I thought I might be done I stepped out and took a few pictures. Reviewing them I was very unsatisfied. I tried again and was ready to scrap the whole idea, but tried one more time to make adjustments and finally decided it was good enough to not give up the opportunity.

I then drove to the entrance sign and parked in front of it to partially obscure the view from oncoming traffic. I took a dozen pictures or so when another car pulled up. I casually walked to my car and started to drive away. Almost immediately I realized they were just checking their map and when they left I went back for more.

Later I drove to the Snake River Overlook turnout off the highway. There were a few people there taking pictures of the river and mountains so I waited until they were done and then got out and took some pictures. While I was doing that, more people pulled in and walked down to the overlook. As they did I took the more distal path back the parking area and got into my car. Once I had just set the timer and walked to my spot when a couple came around the corner directly toward me. I tried to casually pick up my camera and walk away. One of them approached me but I acted like I was preoccupied with the functions of my camera and proceeded to my car. Now I wonder if they just would have been offering to take the picture for me rather than let me use the tripod and timer. People do that all the time. I also tried taking my first action videos but didn’t realize that videos can’t be rotated so they came out sideways. Oh, well. Better luck next time. Finally it was getting dark and I still had to find a camping spot while I could still see. I drove to an area I knew, still dressed to the nines, passed by some campers standing by the road and found a nice site to de-transform.

This person was completely covered, ostensibly to protect herself from the sun. Listen lady, do you think the headgear impairs your vision...just a little? She's also reading. If she had been applying makeup, that would have been the trifecta. If you see this woman, exit the highway immediately. And yea, it could be a guy, but I doubt it.

Bamboo plants are one of the world's most versatile resources. Bamboo, because of its strength and flexibility, has been used for hundreds of years as a major building material in countries like Japan and China. But aside from furniture building and architecture, bamboo plants are also used for a wide array of purposes. One of the most interesting areas where bamboo is used is in the creation of instruments. Because bamboo is hollow like pipe, it makes for a natural wind instrument, and cultures from all over the world have used it to their musical advantage.

Wind moving through bamboo forests or thickets makes symphony orchestras seem impotent. Wind moving little pieces of bamboo to strike against each other gives joy and peace to those who hear it.

Like grass it grows rapidly and propagates itself if left alone. Like wood it is strong, grows many places and has many, many uses. Given its way, bamboo will hold hillsides in place against raging waters unleashed from above. Given its way, growing profusely among peoples judged materially poorest on the planet, without gigantic industries cutting, gathering, processing, transporting it; bamboo is here, waiting to serve. It is here to shelter, to fashion tools, to weave baskets, to help water obey, to provide beauty and sounds.
Bamboo is a group of perennial evergreens in the true grass family (Poaceae, subfamily Bambusoideae, tribe Bambuseae). Giant bamboos are the largest members of the grass family.

In bamboo, as with other grasses, the internodal regions of the plant stem are hollow and the vascular bundles in the cross section are scattered throughout the stem instead of in a cylindrical arrangement. Many prehistoric bamboos exceeded heights of 85 metres (279 ft). Primarily growing in regions of warmer climates during the Cretaceous period, vast fields existed in what is now Asia.

Unlike trees, all bamboo have the potential to grow to full height and girth in a single growing season of 3–4 months. During this first season, the clump of young shoots grow vertically, with no branching. In the next year, the pulpy wall of each culm slowly dries and hardens. The culm begins to sprout branches and leaves from each node. During the third year, the culm further hardens. The shoot is now considered a fully mature culm. Over the next 2–5 years (depending on species), fungus and mould begin to form on the outside of the culm, which eventually penetrate and overcome the culm. Around 5 – 8 years later (species and climate dependent), the fungal and mold growth cause the culm to collapse and decay. This brief life means culms are ready for harvest and suitable for use in construction within 3 – 7 years

I've always been fairly environmentally minded - I recycle, I take public transportation, I reuse my takeout containers... but lately I've become more and more distraught by the condition of our environment and the fact that we CAN make a difference, but many people either don't know, or don't care.

April 1 of last year I started refusing plastic bags. It's amazing what you notice when you make a small change - people are consuming mindlessly, and so many people are on auto-pilot in both handing out and receiving plastic bags. People are simply not educated about plastic bags - they do not biodegrade, so they'll be around FOREVER, and when they do start to break down, they photodegrade, which leaches chemicals into the soil and causes nutrient depletion, amongst other things. Wildlife chokes on plastic bags, they get caught in trees... the list of ill effects goes on and on, but my favorite ones is: the more plastic bags you use, the higher oil prices will go. why? plastic bags are a petroleum product.
I alway carry a bag with me (I have a very lightweight one that folds into a pouch and clips onto anything) I carry bamboo or metal silverware in my purse, and I try to avoid one-time-use plastic or styrofoam (which IS plastic, in case you didn't know) packaging.
I've also become concerned with the safety of plastics, so I've made the switch to safer plastics and metal, glass, bamboo, and stoneware products for food

At home, I pay attention to what is in my cleaning products (many laundry detergents and household cleaners are petroleum products), and what chemicals are in my every-day health and beauty products. I try to buy natural and/or the least harmful... most messes can be cleaned up with plant-based products, and often they're more effective.

Several years ago, I stopped using disposable menstrual products. The amount of waste created by disposable menstrual products is RIDICULOUS. These products are also filled with dioxins and other chemicals that really shouldn't be so close to your mucous membranes, and most of them aren't fully biodegradable, so they will be around FOREVER.
Another benefit is that I've bought maybe 1 box of (non-applicator 100% biodegradable, thankyouverymuch) tampons in the last 10 years...
Ladies, add up the money you spend on pads and tampons each month (they are NOT cheap), multiply that by 120, and think of what you could do with that money instead....
Men, imagine never having to hear the words "oh, honey, can you pick me up a box of..." again. It's good stuff.

I try to buy products that are made with fair wage/labor/trade, and using sustainable materials and a lack of excess chemicals. Sometimes I get overwhelmed because it's nearly impossible to do EVERYTHING "right" environmentally, morally, and health-wise. I just keep reminding myself that nobody's perfect, every little bit helps, and hopefully others will see the example I'm TRYING to set and follow suit.

I finally got my new 5D Mark II w/24-70mm! Shoot for the advertising of the amazing Arzoo Azmina beauty school which will be opening soon, and hopefully lots more photo shoots where this came from :).

This almost didn't happen as our original female model pulled out at 7am on the day of the shoot! Thank you so much to Maliha for saving the day! Had a lovely time doing this, it was so beautiful to photograph and everyone there was so lovely to work with!

Model sat on low stool, shot on black colorama with her sitting about 5 feet in front of it. Paramount lighting (one beauty dish above and slightly to the right, hair light coming in from the left above and over, we used a gold relflector coming in from the bottom left as the fill light). Both lights were bowens gemini flash heads.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves, who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so we have come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end but a beginning. Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. It is important to have an open-minded perspective on the man who presently poses as the president of the United States. In as much as he is an alien black African Communist, it behooves us to consider every dimension of this historical fiasco.

Immature. Like the psychologically challenged Democrat, Bill Clinton, with a troubled, confused childhood, Barry (Barack Hussein Obama) brings before the people of America a case of feigned objectivity and social wisdom. He is obviously chronically dependent on the camera. He must be on stage. He must be talking. He must be looked at. He must be in your face. All America’s face. He has a problem staying in the White House. The recent appearance on a low-down late-night TV show for teenagers and twenty-something college students is typical of where Barry really is, psychologically. He is an adolescent himself. Democrats attract the socially immature and misshapen, the unfortunate and crippled. That the party should continually aggrandize this brand of humanity makes for a grand, all-inclusive public appeal, yes, but these are not the kind of people that need to be in leadership. Ever. This not only sets them up for incorrigible failure, but creates disaster for the larger public. Putting the common, or the lowly, on top, is trying to make heaven on earth. The result? Hell. Always. It is the Pharisacial self-righteousness of the Democrat mind set that brings this about. Manipulating the romantic notions of the “common man.” Nationhood just doesn’t work that way.

Demonstrating the height of immaturity and hypocrisy, Barry not only forever degrades the American presidency by appearing on a cheap, late-night “entertainment” show, but says he was “shocked” to know bonuses were being paid to AIG executives, and claims Timothy Geithner is doing “an outstanding job.” President Barack Obama appears on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in Burbank, Calif. Thursday, March 19, 2009. It was a most vomitable moment.

Barry is in a state of continual fantasy. It’s all about having a good time. He likes to party. It’s all about party. Much worse than Bill Clinton. The Democrats bring adolescence into national leadership. Personal lack of discipline, organization, cleanliness, and very basic decency all generate a disgusting air about our presidency. I think the “common” people of America idolize themselves a bit too much. They see themselves in the failure, immaturity, and lack of class of Barry, and Bill. They honor their own low estate in electing such “trash” to the highest office. This is what happens when everyone has the right to vote. A painful reminder of the necessity of voter qualification.

Barry wants to appeal to youth, as if youth is the guide. The educational system of America has insured that the general youth is completely self-idolizing, dishonest, and self-indulgent. No wonder Barry seeks the solace of youth.

Incompetent. Barry has literally no executive experience. He is the most unqualified, inexperienced, incompetent individual every to hold public office. He demonstrates the Peter Principle, I believe it’s called. Incompetence is elevated, or promoted. Something like that. He got in on his skin, nothing more. There are plenty of incompetent Democrats out there, who want to destroy everything America is and was built on, and was meant to be. Why a black one? Just for the fun of it. And perhaps because the Democrats knew what was coming, knew the disaster they had caused, and knew it would be best to put a black man in office. That way, the black man would take the hit, and it would be a soft blow, because the Negro is so well protected from criticism, so insulated from fault, that their boy Barry was the perfect fall guy. He would simply float, and never hit the ground. Knocked silly by reality, he wouldn’t even feel it himself.

But the people will pay for this one. As usual, actually. There are individuals, and there are corporate bodies. The individual always pays–for the incompetence, errors, and ills of the corporation. This is the truth even at the lowest levels of business. Washington is a whore house now. People like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Tim Geithner, and Barry, of course, lead the world in criminal hypocrisy. Republicans are virtually complicit. It is a shame, a dark, dark shame in the history of America. Or so it seems. Is there a difference between incompetence and dishonesty? Who can tell, at this point?

Arrogant. Dare we say, the spirit of the man is present in the inflections and tone of his voice? Barry even sounds cocky. It is ringing in his speech. In every word. His style is nothing but

Untitled painting by an anonymous artist, apparently of Jan van Riebeeck, founder of the Cape Colony of South Africa in 1652, as he might have looked like that year. The Latin inscription and the background of ships sailing towards what looks like Table Mountain, the natural feature behind Cape Town, round out the picture. Except that it isn't Jan van Riebeeck.

I bought the painting from an antique shop this week. The owner had gotten it at an auction in March 2003, as "17th/18th century painting."

[UPDATE]
A friend who is a professional art restorer says the figure and background use two different techniques. The background appears to be a normal oil painting, but the figure of van Riebeeck appears to also have an extra layer, of paper, underneath. According to my firend, a common technique in the 1920s in Belgium and France was to lay a photograph down on a canvas or board and then paint over it. If that's the case for the portrait, then it would explain the vagueness relative to the original, the propagation of an erroneous likeness not available to the public before 1884 *and* the figure being flipped horizontally from the original. Details and story below.

The painting shows a half-length figure of a 17th-century Dutch man as he looked in 1652 at the age of 32, according to the Latin legend at the top. Upper left is the legend "AETAT: SUA 32," meaning "the 32nd year of his life." Upper right is "AN[o] 1652" (year 1652). Below the date is a small capital "N" and the initials ".DC." A torn fragment of paper glued to the back says "R....k." The man is wearing dark clothes with a fancy lace collar, in the style of the time, and has his right hand over his breast. In the background are ships sailing away from the viewer toward what looks like a mountain. All of this suggests this is a portrait of Jan van Riebeeck as he might have looked in 1652, the year he founded the Dutch Cape Colony (now Cape Town) and was its first administrator. The mountain in the background then is Table Mountain on the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. There's a layer underneath of brick-red primer, showing through mostly on the hand.

Jan (or Johan) van Riebeeck (1618-77) was a ship's surgeon for the VOC (Dutch East India Company). In December 1651, he and his wife sailed to South Africa's Cape of Good Hope, raching it in April 1652 and founded the Cape Colony (now Cape Town) as a defensible reprovisioning station for VOC ships headed east. Two years later they moved on to Batavia (now Jakarta) and then Malacca, where he died.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has a similar portrait, painted in 1650 by Dirck Craey (d. 1664 or 1668). Craey kept the House of Orange's art collection in the Hague, and left behind very few of his own works. Until 1976, the Rijksmuseum's portrait was thought to be of van Riebeeck, and an accompanying portrait, that of his wife Maria (nee Quevellerius). In 1884, a descendant of van Riebeeck, Jonkheer (Lord, sort of) J.H.F.K. van Swinderen, donated the two portraits as those of the van Riebeecks and the museum took it as read. But in 1976, the Rijksmuseum did a thorough review of their inventory, and many of the works donated by Jhr. van Swinderen were reclassified. The Rijksmuseum now lists the two Craey portraits as those of Bartholomeus Vermuyden (1616-1650) and his wife.

According to the 34th Museum Bulletin, 1988 supplement to the 1976 Rijksmuseum catalog, the designation changed as a result of genealogical research by the Trippenhuis museum. The house is a legacy of the Trip family. In the course of researching the family tree, the genealogists discovered that the famous likeness is actually that of Vermuyden.

The figure in my portrait is obviously copied from the one in the Rijksmuseum, down to almost every detail, but not as well executed as the orginal. It's also reversed (oddly, the original was left-handed). The initials "DC" could refer to Dirck Craey, but Carey signed his portraits "D. Craey." If the small "N" in my painting means "after" (Dutch "na" or "naar"), then it would mean this was a painting after Craey's portrait.

So the question is when and by whom? There's lovely craquelure of the oil paint and primer, and the wood looks pretty old (i.e., not plywood). But that's not my specialty; a friend is looking into that. The Latin inscription was common through the 18th century. It's unlikely to really be from 1652, since van Riebeeck would have been too busy then setting up the colony to sit for a portrait. There is a later portrait, though, possibly made in the 1660s, and he looks older and more statesmanlike. An

Shriveled up in a clumsy fetal like position between battery one’s plasma accelerator and the turret’s drive room, Zebby did so little as raise his eye’s in response. “No.” he answered. “I’m sleeping. You’re kind do that to don’t they?”
“You know sleeping on the gun decks isn’t permitted, even for an off duty enlist men.”
“Neither is your face.” Zebby groaned to himself, shewing away the Senior Gun Chief, now standing over him with an enervated flick of his hand.
“What was that?” Snapped the Gun Chief.
“Nothing, um. Sir.”
“You…Are off duty?” The Gun Chief added.
“Last I checked? Why? Is sleeping on the gun decks allowed for on duty slug slingers?”
Shacking his head solemnly, Senior Gun Chief, Kabil Franks, slowly leaned down over Zebby and patted him on the shoulder, before further offering a cup of hot instant coffee. “You know, it’s a damn good thing you’re so fucking popular around here you little butt flicker.”
“That a fact?”
“You do realize what time it is?”
Zebby hesitated before offering a response. “What is this time thing of which you speak of?”
“God damn it Zebby, it’s half past eighteen hundred. You were suppose to be a deck up two hours ago.”
Finally taking Kabil a little more seriously, Zebby raised his head, and took a hand full of the hot cup of coffee. “No shit? I’m late?”
“Try A.W.O.L.” Kabil smirked.
“Really? Are they going to arrest me?”
“Only if they find out. Like I said, your lucky ass got peps, but S.G.C. Allmendinger really ain’t the sort to be fucked with for extended periods of time, if you can grasp the vernacular, and that butt buddy of yours Rowbury, has already gone to sniffing that shit stained nose of his around every sweaty crack and brown hole he can find.”
“Ah, Shad’s harmless.”
“That little shits dangerous, and you know he’s got it out for you Zebby. I see shit, you know.”
“You see shit?” Zebby smirked, before taking a sip of his coffee. “Franks you spend way to much of your down time on V deck, trying to get painted over numbers off the walls, and the heads full of charcoal and rice paper.”
“Fuck that.”
“No, I think you’ve got that out of text.”
“Are you drunk?”
“Would I be better off?”
“God damn it, have you heard a single word that’s come out of this lip flapping mouth attached to my face? I’m trying to do you favor here, this ain’t no time to be fucking around. Now when you didn’t report, S.A. and a few of them pot luck engineer irregularities cooked up some bull shit story, bout needing a volunteer midship for some sort of secondary core vent purge, before the jump. But don’t be going and thinking it’s going to hold water for much longer.”
“The secondary vent?”
“The Story.”
“Really? The engineer guys are in on this?”
“Do in no small part to the coin they collected off one really bent out of shape S.G.C. Allmendinger, after you loaded twenty four consecutive slugs without a single drop. So lets step lively, alright.”
Finishing off his coffee, Zebby reluctantly pried himself from the cold floor plate and stretched, taking notice of the foul stench emanating from his own arm pits. “Well at least I got an excuse for the bedraggled uniform.”
“Noted.”
“Hey Franks, you’re an officer, you got the inside reach around.“
“Not as cordial as you might think. Especially in regards to this particular operation.“
“Fare enough. I just got one question. I heard Sarabande cackling over the M.C. earlier about ship prep for the jump.”
“As did everyone else. Mind getting to the point in just a slightly more hare footed manner, like oh say, now?”
“Kabil. Tetchy.”
“Lil faster then that, Zeb.”
“He said we were rigging for a stage six interface. When did somebody decide there were six ways to link a hump, instead of five.”
Near instantly Kabil faded, lowering his head for a moment to think. It was the sort of body language that suggested to Zebby, that he best prepare himself to be lied to.
“I think you’re about the tenth shipmen to ask me that question now, Zebby.”
“And what did you tell the other nine luckies left in the dark?”
“Same thing I’m going to tell you.”
“That being?”
“You don’t wanna know.”
Then Kabil rapidly replaced his gloomy demure with a bright cynical grin, before planting a firm pat on Zebby’s shoulder. “Time to work Emerson. Time to not ask question, and work.” And with that, Kabil took a hasty moment to take in all of Zebby’s features as though trying to memorize him for the last time. Then he turned swiftly away, and aimed for the bulk head leaving Zebby with just as many if not quit possibly a few more then he had begun with.

Amara exits the elevator after an odd fumble with the buttons and waves to the sister. "Good evening Sister. How are you tonight?"

Darkness Odigaunt looked up from her book, "Hey, not too bad, you? Here for the class?"

David Valentino steps into the room and smiles at Darkness, approaching the desk and setting a shiny red apple on it, before winking and heading to a desk.

Amara nods, "Yes. Even brought something for notes." She'd tap her hip back which SL is not rezzing yet before taking a seat.

Myya Loire grins as she sees who the teacher's pet is, sitting all up in the first row, "This the adult education class?" she asks, eyeing the big kid in leather.

David Valentino turns and smiles at Myya, then shakes his head.

Darkness Odigaunt sat up and looked uneasily at the apple, "Is that going to explode like, halfway through class?" She nodded and stood up, "No notes tonight, really. Not for the first class. This is us, have a seat."

David Valentino: "Sorry..this is the Kama Sutra class. Adult education is down in the alley."

Myya Loire pops a squat and kicks David's chair "Oh... sorry... not..." she says, totally planning on all sorts of mischief, but then... she wasn't there to play, she was there to learn, "You don't have to be Christian for this class, right?" she asks the teacher.

David Valentino smiles at Darkness, "Naw..that's prime grade A apple. A serpent gave it to me, but I thought you could use it more."

Darkness Odigaunt shook her head, "Nope. We're going to start with that probably, but not stay just with one religion anyway."

Amara rolled her eyes at David. "Kama sutra...like you need to be a class for that. Be mindful not to be struck by lighting David; I will not try to revive you if the good Lord decides to punish you for that." Since the book was not needed, Amara placed it back in the bag and waited.

Myya Loire nods and tugs at the cross on her necklace that was so not appropriate, "Alright, cause, like I'm a Brooklyn Russian Jew, Bukharin and Russian... old school." she wanted to make that clear so that there wouldn't be any question as to which side of the debate she'd be falling on who Jesus died for... someone else's sins... not hers.

David Valentino laughs, "Naw..god and me got an understanding. he leaves me alone and I do the same for him." He then turns back to watch the good sister with humorous interest.

Darkness Odigaunt nodded, "Maybe you can help when we get to Judaism then." She smiled and checked the dial over the door, "We'll start soon, doesn't look like anyone else is coming."

David Valentino notices the quotes by T.S. Elliott and Poe on the wall and arches a brow.

Myya Loire fiddles with a bit of paper on her desk, tearing off little pieces and turning them into tiny projectiles. She lines them up along the edge and takes careful aim for the back of David's collar.

Amara asks, "So we'll be starting with Christianity today I assume, Sister? Or general discussion about religion as it were?"

Darkness Odigaunt looks back, "Okay! No, we're sort of just going to start generally. Like, how much people know." She leaned back on her desk, "So... how much do you know?"

David Valentino feels some mini paper projectiles bouncing off his collar and hitting his hair and frowns, hoping the good sister breaks out the ruler soon.

Teyh Saunders tries to slip into the classroom quietly, keeping to the back of the classroom as he tries to move along the back wall. Half way across, he would stop, folding his arms across his chest, listening closely and smiling at the Sister.

David Valentino raises a hand but doesn't wait to be called on, "Religion came about as ways to explain the unexplainable, then to give hope for an afterlife because of the fear of death, and finally, as a control method.”

Amara hummed. “My view of religion’s been more about finding guidance for things. The mentality of ‘What would this person do?’ in a certain scenario rather than strictly adhering to certain beliefs.”

Teyh Saunders began to put together from the various responses that the question was about religion, raising his hand from his standing spot in the back of the room and waiting quietly to be called upon.

David Valentino eyes Amara, "That sounds more like spirituality than religion."

Darkness Odigaunt nodded, "Pretty good. That's about the definition of general religion," to David. She pointed to the woman beside him, "That's good too. Still right, but a completely different right." She nodded to Teyh as he walked in, then to allow him to speak.

Smokey has been very reluctant to go outside the cat flap. I could see he was interested in going outside. When the other cats were out, he would watch them longingly through the window. Sometimes he would roam around the house and meow loudly at all the windows.

I've tried several times to encourage him to go out by holding both flaps open for him. Indeed he did go just outside the flap the one day, but he only stayed out for about 10 minutes before getting scared and coming back inside.

Last night I tried something new. Since Smokey has been out in my yard before (often with a harness) , I took him out the front door and carried him down to the main part of the enclosure. I took him inside and stayed with him, and the other excited cats. At first he was afraid, and he tried to open the entrance I brought him in through. After a few minutes though he relaxed and started looking around. I then left the enclosure and stayed outside it with the cats. They followed me around, including Smokey so I just led him through the tunnel back up to the house. Once he discovered there was a route back to the house, he really relaxed and he started exploring his way back out through the tunnel. I retreated back to the house and kept an eye on things. For the next hour he wandered around, exploring and occasionally coming back through the tunnel to make sure he could still get to the house. When my downstairs neighbour came home, he got scared and he ran right back home and in through the flap, just the way he should.

Today he is using the flap like a pro and he has gone in and out several times and he's having a great time!

Smokey

The youngest horse we have, this is Smokey and he belongs to Mark. He's just starting to get out of his shell and come to me and he was very good about staying still while I took his photo.
